Re: Lovers, if you like action/crime/romance dramas you'll like this one. I have not come across a better romance to date. It was adult & very passionate. But this drama has its haters & I can't guarantee you won't be one of them. Just watch it and see for yourself.
Speaking of my darling Lee Seo-jin, I was trying to exercise decorum becoming of a lady, but okay since you went there. I ***would gladly*** GOBBLE this man up for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert AND a midnight snack!!! I'mma go all Abe Sada on his ass, except I'd never lay a violent finger on that beautiful, lovely, perfect body! :p
Hey, how about this? How about me & you open up a man harem? I'd line up uri Seo-jin ssi, Byung-huney, Yoo Ji-Tæ, Go Soo to be my sex slaves! You can line up your Gong Yoo (who I also love, but you can have him :) ... who else do you love? Man, what a dream! haha
No, but seriously, you have got to prioritize Love 911 & the other 2 movies. Love 911 is a fun one, with a little teeny bit of melo thrown in. Mindless entertainment that will totally destress you with all its cuteness AND the total man candy that is Go Soo! Promise! ;)
Now finally, this business with the pics. I do think we must be talking about 2 different Cha Seung-won or you must have gone mad because certainly you can not mean to say this dreadful pic does right by uri Seung-won?!? It doesn't even look like him!!!
Aghassi, should I ship a pair of my reading glasses over to Germany? lol

Dude, WHAT are you on the fence the about??? You have got to watch BOTH Secret Love & Addicted. They're NOT melo (well maybe SL a little), but they're more romantic drama/thrillers. Secret Love is particularly twisty, that's part of the fun. Besides both are just movies, not long ass dramas that take days to complete. You spend 3hrs of your time tops, & I'm willing bet somewhere around 65% that you'll end up liking both. Have I misled you so far? You said it yourself, I haven't. Moreover, both are available on streaming sites so you won't have to download!
As for I Saw the Devil. I had seen Byung-huney yrs b4 in A Bittersweet Life, but this is the movie (followed by Addicted) that pushed me waaay over the edge for this man! He's HAWWWWT & best of all a MAGNIFICENT actor!
Omiiiii, I had to go check my review of Eros just to remember what I thought about the different stories. I see that I hated the 3rd film with the vamps. I mean, wtf??? I didn't really care for the 4th story either, but I liked it better than the 3rd.
I saw a gif showing a pretty hot interaction between the 2ndary couple in PtB. Usually side couples don't even kiss in kdramas, at least not those I've seen. So heck yeah, I'mma check it out! I also want to give Ji Sung one last chance to burn his stint in Save the Dance out of my mind for good! The show isn't a priority but I know for sure I'll watch it ... if only for that side couple. :)
Man, I don't really care for Moon Geum-young & I kinda hate Jang Yu-suk (apologies, I know you like him & even though I know it's a bit unfair cuz I've never watched him in anything, I do really dislike girly guys like him! The dude wears more makeup than me! :). So I will never watch Mary Stayed Out All Night. I've also heard the drama is a total catastrophe!

Some days I say I'm going to watch it (because seriously when will I get the opportunity to see the man candies that are Jo In-sung & Joo Min-jo in the same show again?).
Other days I say nah, not my cuppa!
So on the fence I remain! :)

Betts, I know right??? I'm telling you, the man is indeed a picture of pure male beauty! He's killing me, I tell you ... like totally ripping my heart out! :-)
But yeah, let's cool waaaay down. **Breathe in, Breathe out**
Hahaha
I've heard mixed reviews about Wonderful Mama so though I initially wanted to see it because the story sounds good I'm now on the fence. As for Life is Beautiful, well, I generally don't watch shows/movies with homosexual themes, but I'm not opposed to trying a few episodes, just to see if it's my cup of tea. Thx for the rec.
I've been eyeing either Ugly Alert or If Tomorrow Comes as my next long drama. Have you seen any of these? I don't think they're melodramas, but I know you also love family dramas.
I'll definitely pass on Scandal then. I so do not like crazy makjang dramas! lol

Hi Erin, mood dictates a lot of my drama choices. Melo is perhaps my least favourite genre, but I do choose to watch melodramas from time to time, though I avoid the completely makjang or severely tragic, gut wrenching ones.
At the time when I saw Padam Padam I had no appreciation of how dramas went down in Asia. Every genre follow a strict & rigid set of rules. I've never seen the drama that veered from the rules dictating its genre. I was used to western cinema & TV where the rules are a bit more fluid, where even melodramas often end on a positive, happy or optimistic note. And certainly anyone dead or dying was a big no no.
Imagine my surprise when I saw what happened in Padam Padam. I was devastated & shocked! LOL
TBH the show left me in a mild of state depression for days! I just couldn't shake the sadness of what had happened. All throughout the show I kept waiting, expecting ... a miracle that never came! :)
And not yet understanding my own tastes I unwittingly continued to watch melo after melo! And of course I continued to feel a little depressed! lol Until finally I realized there are other less depressing genres I could choose from! That's when I knew for sure melodramas were not for me, but at least I now knew what to expect if I chose to watch them. I can watch a melodramatic movie & not be affected because it's not as long as a drama. You don't spend as much time with the characters to internalize their suffering.
So yeah encountering melodramas was perhaps one of THE biggest culture shocks I experienced since coming to dramaland. lol Besides all the cheesy, childish romance & wide eyed lip presses! :)
But I have come across other melo lovers. Not many. Actually I know of only 2 others who are diehard melo fans. I can introduce you if you want? :)

So far Tæ-Joo has been a pretty decent guy with principles, but Min-Jæ just dangled a juicy arse carrot in front of him & I doubt he has the willpower to step away from playing hookie with the devil. So exciting times ahead!
Still too early to say whether this is love, but I'm invested! :)
More to come!
Hope you're having fun with Pops! :)

Lovers has a great romance, badass fight scenes & a little bit of business intrigue. At least give it a go & see if it's your cup of tea. I don't understand your tastes all that well yet, but I think it might appeal to you if you like any of the above. I can tell you there's nothing 'conservative' about the romance in this drama! Nothing at all! One of the many reasons why I love it! :)
As for GE, I'm about to start ep 6. The roller coaster ride for me hasn't started yet. Jang Tæ-Joo so far has been a man of decency and principle, but I smell a rat somewhere.

I have Liar Game on my list & Queen Seon Duk too I think. I see QSD on many people's favourites list. And I've seen Shota in Love Shuffle and Nagareboshi. He's definitely growing on me. Looking forward to seeing more of him.
I love MARS!!! :)
It's so far the only Taiwanese drama that I've really enjoyed. It's pretty high on my re-watch list too. I love what's her name & Chen Ling. Their relationship was so sweet and sexy at the same time.
Right now I'm watching Golden Empire. The beginning episodes are a bit slow, but it's picking up nicely. I'm on ep 5. Have you seen it?

By the way, the gifs from It Started with A Kiss & They Kiss Again resurrected my desire to watch those dramas although I had planned to ax them. The romance seems 'mature' which is what I like best if I'm going to watch a romance drama at all.

As for the pics, first lemme just express how glad I am to have met someone just as shallow as me who can appreciate an actor as much for his hot bod & looks as well as his talent! Cuz it's like ... WAAAY important, right? ;) So ***HIGH FIVE***!!!
But ... what?? You think the pic they have up of Cha Seung-woo & Lee Byung-hun are ok? Aright, are we talking about the same people? There are many other pics in which both look sooo much better! LBH looks way beyond his years & CSW looks like he's about ready to step outta the closet!?! Btw just for the record, no disrespect meant to gays!!! Nothing is wrong with looking gay ... if you're gay! But these are straight men ... well, as far as we know! lol
Hot Abs ... well I was watching my beloved Lee Seo--jin in a reality series called Grandpas Over Flowers & he's just so awesome. We get to see him just being himself. He isn't playing a role & he seems relaxed, like a really nice guy (although I heard he dumped his gf over the phone! :o). Anyway, I just love him so much. His dimples make me weak! lol And it just became very easy for me to ax the others ... as much as I love them too! Moreover, the others are all married now, while uri Seo-jin ssi is still single. And my god, Ara, look at the man! Omiiiii
I LOOOOVE to have him for dessert! ::blush::...
Anyway, you must watch him in LOVERS!!!
As for Go Soo ... omg, I think I've gonna die in my young age from hot man overload. I haven't seen him in much myself. I'm watching him now in Golden Empire & he's superfine! Watch Love 911 asap. You're so gonna fall in love! ;p

Kill Bill ... and that one with Kurt Russell as the murderous stuntman.
I liked Oldboy. Speaking of it reminds me that I still need to post my review in which I commented on its story. It was sooo far-fetched & out there. lol I'll let you know when I post the review. By the way, I love LOVE Yoo Ji-tæ. You should so watch Secret Love! Sexiest role I've ever seen him in & it was an alright movie too. Similar somewhat to Addicted with LBH. I enjoyed both. Decent thrillers with hot romance. My fav! ;)
I can't remember the 4th story in Eros. Was it the one with the lesbians? lol If so, then I agree. I didn't like one either.
Hehe re Ji Sung, we're kinda in the same hot water. I don't know if it was the character or the man I liked either. Maybe the character because Ji Sung ... I don't know. I haven't seen him enough to decide whether I like him or not. Aside from Partner I haven't seen him in anything since Dance so there's little to compare with. I have Protect the Boss on my list. I hear he was good in that & there's a hawwwwt side romance in the drama that I really wanna check out!!! lol
I did not like Dance. I think it was like my 2nd drama or something & even in my inexperience with Asian drama back then I thought the whole damn thing was rather silly. Very makjang, melodramatic, ridiculous. The drama was actually released in 2005, but the fashion was sooo outdated! I'm talking like '60s & '70s. Aigooo! Sometimes I have to wonder WHO the hell hire some of these drama stylists!!! haha Then there was the not quite up to par acting! In particular Ji Sung's! So meh, I kinda got turned off him after that ...
No worries about the recs. I'm glad you're enjoying them. Maybe we have similar tastes in genre.

Generally yes, though once in a blue moon, when the mood calls for it, I'm known to watch them.
I won't deny the Hongs are comedy queens, and they do come up with some pretty romantic scenarios, but ugh ... I hate how their dramas start off with a bang & then drag, drag, drag in the middle toward the end. They also have a way of ruining a perfectly good female lead by making her do stupid things that make you want to bitch slap her! lol That's why I don't like them.
Buuuuut, Master's Sun isn't completely off the tables yet! It depends on the ending... ;)

Great intro in ep 1! It did its job in making me want to watch on. Go Soo being riveting is in reference to the opening scene with Congressman Kim & any scene prior to them taking us back to his past.
They disrupted all that awesome action with the damn flashback. I mostly hate flashbacks. They always look good on paper, but are a hard sell on screen. It's sloppy storytelling, it drags the viewer out of the present day and creates a restlessness in us, even though the flashback provides information that's good to know. We keep hankering for the REAL story. Screenwriting 101, but I see it happen way too often in Asian dramas.
I don't like sudden time jumps either, but I'll take it over a flashback. There's a flashback AND a time jump within 3 eps. Crazy. If you do that in a script here in the West you'll probably get canned. lol
Sooya's acting has been consistent & good, imo. The writing in eps 2 & 3 dawdled a little, but that's not his fault. It's because it's a flashback. There's conflict between us wanting to move on & see what's happening in the present & them needing to show us his backstory.
There were a few good scenes though, like when he was (deliberately?) spitting blood all over Seo Yoon's pristine office and then proceeded to wiped his face with the contract. NICE! What a way to say, terms NOT accepted! lol
By ep 4 we're back in the present day, he's back in a suit and back to being the badass we saw in ep 1. Like you I prefer him that way. That intense, riveting way of delivering his lines and playing off his co-stars, LOVE.IT! There's a scene with Min-Jæ, the way he exits that conversation ... will leave you in no doubt. This is Jang Tæ-Joo's house, make no mistake about it, muthaf**ker!!! Freakin' loved it! :)

I think this is a role I'm going LOVE Go Soo in. His performance so far has been riveting, esp in the first ep, and I suspect he'll only get better. There's still a lot of stage setting going on even at ep 4, but like I posted earlier things are starting to get really serious. I haven't decide yet if this drama is exactly to my liking. I need to see how a few things unfold then I'll be able to make up my mind. Looking forward to watching with you! :)

Very interesting. You're only the third the person I've met here on MDL who says they love melos. Most people I know (including myself) can only tolerate melos every now & again. You should meet my friends Erin & bettyboo, who are also absolute melo lovers. :)
