Hello nuka, you disappeared so suddenly after we chatted back in August. What gives? Been busy? How are your studies?
I'm sure you're pretty tired of hearing how exotic it is that you live in Tokyo, but I'm really curious, what are some of the things you like & dislike the most about living there? I'd also still like to hear your perception of the men. How do they go about approaching women? Do they even approach women at all? I've thought about it long and hard, and I'm shocked to realize I have NEVER interacted with a Japanese man in my life. Not once. Hence all the questions ... just soooo curious!!! :)

They both married now so I axed 'em!
Seems like I've been running too much with the wrong crowd ...
Their mercurial ways are rubbing off on me...

You're among the drama's few fans!
Everyone else seemed to have hated it and it was reduced to a show I only wanted to see just to ogle Sung Seung-hun!
Thanks for a fresh, new perspective! It just inched a step up on my priority list. :)

Thx for the feedback.
I'll probably pass on Condor, though it sounds epic.
Did you ever finished Padam Padam? It just sort of went off the radar amidst the storm that was Golden Empire & never made it back! lol

About to start ep 4 of the latter by the way. I guess some real sh-- is about to start hitting the fan. And Go Soo ... omieeee!!! You GET why I wanted some romance, don't you? So I could live vicariously through the female lead??? Is there ever a finer specimen in all of drama history? Aigooo, aigooo, I think my heart's about to give out ... oh wait, it already has!!! Go Sooya, you slay me, oppa! ;)

Have you seen the pics on my profile? I guess I have the right to sue MDL several times over for allowing half naked pictures hazardous to one's emotional & physical health! :)

I've sat through a couple audition sessions in my time, and I've developed a theory about actors with those highly emotive eyes. But it's so elementary... as are mostly everything surrounding the craft of filmmaking really.

I won't share out of fear you'd laugh me out of court. Let's just say only a very specific group of performers will have the availability to convey such emotion through the eyes alone. Other actors will not have the capacity since it's not a characteristic inherent to everyone's personhood. It doesn't necessarily mean such actors will make bad performers, just that they'll have to call upon other tools which may or may not be as effective. Some are able to deliver to much critical acclaim, others can not. One thing's for sure, the former group are by far those who receive the most accolades.

My next personal project, a short about a female pedophile having just been released from prison, is a very character-driven piece, relying heavily on visual metaphors & little to no dialogue. I've already had one audition session & was not able to find the actress I needed locally so the next session will be in London where the pool of actors is bigger, more diverse & more talented.

As for Feasts of the Gods, well, it's not so cut & dry given that neither of your tastes seem to have any real parallels with my own (erratic though mine are too, mind you!). But you're both viewers whose opinion I find enriching since there's a tendency to interpret merit on entirely different terms. So like I said, a dilemma! :) You two are the only friends I know who've seen the drama. And these days if I haven't spent time talking to someone & getting to them I won't take into consideration their evaluations of a drama. It's just a weird policy I have. Only trust friends! :)

You might give people the wrong impression about our Dung-gun ssi! If you get my drift ... ::grin::..

Hooray for Love? What about Family Honor? I started it last night & fell asleep half way thru, but I promised you an entire episode so I'll pick it back up later today. :)

Only seen up to ep 3 so too early to say anything, other than the acting is great!

You didn't read my comment because it was too big? Too big??? You're too lazy to read a comment that's only slightly above the average word count for a feed comment? I guess the 20 secs or so it would take to scan it would be just too much for you, righ? You never seize to amaze ... #smdh

Correction:

Ironically it's NOT just torture porn for the sake of torture porn like most Hollywood films in the genre are. There's a fairly decent story that surrounds all the mayhem.

I don't write a review for every movie/drama I watch. Only the ones I particularly enjoyed or disliked. I write the reviews for my own records. As a filmmaker I'm always looking for inspiration so when I see something I like in a movie it's good to have a record of it.

Inferno of Torture is one of the illest movies I've seen in a long time. Graphic in every way possible. This is not a genre I could watch on a regular basis, but once in a blue moon I like experience of getting my mind totally blown. Inferno certainly did that. The movie is only similar to QT's work in its violence. In fact QT's films are more likely to be inspired by Japanese gore films rather than vice versa. Teruo Ishii is a known master of gore in Japan. The guy has a very twisted mind for all the shit he puts in his movies. I have a pretty high tolerance for most things, violence, sex, etc but there were a few sequences in IoT that totally made me cringe. Ironically it's just torture porn for the sake of torture porn like most Hollywood films in the genre are. There's a fairly decent story that surrounds all the mayhem.

P.S Partner, I loved it too and I didn't really care for those ending sequences either, but like you the song won me over. Normally I don't look twice at Ji Sung (can forget the horrible fashion from Save the Last Dance for me), but here he was pretty hot. You should also check out Petty Romance. I found it even funnier than Partner.

First thing you need to know about MDL, profile pics do NOT do their subjects justice! Before I saw Go Soo in Love 911 I came across his pic many times before & dismissed him! He looked like a kid to me. Then I watched the movie & realized he was ALL MAN! Aigooo, I was smitten the minute he walked into the frame.

The lead guy in Queen In-Hyun's Man, same jazz. He has a particularly ugly pic & I almost didn't watch the drama because of it, but again boom! Totally blown away!!! He isn't insanely handsome like Go Soo, but the man is perfectly alright. I'd date him. Cha Seung-Woo, another actor whose pic is crap (but he's one sexy ahjussi, let me tell you!). Jung Kyung-ho, lead guy in Smile You & Cruel City. Passed on those dramas for a very long time because I thought his pic was downright ugly. Then I watch the shows & while he's generally not type I'd spazz over, he's perfectly nice to look at.

Lately I've noticed that someone's been changing out a # of the pics & I'm so glad. I love me some Gong Yoo!!! I hated the pic they had of him before. The one in which he looked totally gay hugging up a bear or some sh--. Then my beloves (see my profiles). All 3 have ugly pics. Thankfully every time I need a little quick fix during the day I look at 'em abs & all the stress just melts away! :p

I have only watched 2.1 dramas by Hong sister, but that's enough to let me know I don't care for them. The Greatest Love got the highest rating I ever gave one of their dramas, a 7. And it was only for the sake of Cha Seung-won's perfect rendition of the ridiculously funny & narcissistic Dok Go-jin. I laughed my ass off every time he appeared on screen. You should watch it. I'm pretty sure the humour is a lot better than in Gumiho ... if all Gumiho does is depend on toilet jokes for kicks & giggles.

Can you recommend me something with No Min Woo that you're proud of as his fan (and preferably where he gets the girl)? Does such a drama exists?

Go Soo. The guy from Love 911, if you've seen that? I've only watched 1.5 ep of Golden Empire, but I can already see he's about to deliver a powerhouse performance.

I find your comments about Hong sisters interesting. I think they're pretty good at incorporating comedy and romance, but they're generally horrible storytellers in my opinion. Their dramas do tend to have interesting concepts & start with a bang (within 1-5 eps), but fizzle out (DRAAAAG) in the middle and end. Their female leads are often ordinary, likeable women, but Hong sisters make you start hating on them by the 2nd act because they make stupid choices, hold out unnecessarily on the hero & a whole host of other frustrating behaviours. Imo, they seem to have a problem with consistent character & story development.

Did you see The Greatest Love? I thought Cha Seung-woo was better than the second lead.

For some reason I NEVER suffer from second male syndrome. Hmm, actually that's not quite true. I experienced symptoms while watching Autumn's Concerto, but that was the first & only time. In all other cases I can feel sorry for 2nd leads, but I never want them to get the girl! :-)

Omieee, I saw the pics of Full House 2 & just had to shake my damn head. Somebody should have fired the damn stylist. Seriously. Coupled with the fact that he looked a stick figure, that hair really cramped his style. The guy looked (unintentionally) gay!!! (disclaimer: not disrespecting gays! Just saying they went for a look that didn't suit a man that was supposedly straight).
