Hehe I actually only have the last ep left so I plan to, but not any time soon. I'm still too angry even if at least 6-9 mths have passed since I first watched it. Need to distance myself from it for a year or two before going back.
For action/romance you should definitely check out LOVERS!!! And as mentioned before, Cruel City. Not too much romance here, just a little little bit. I hear Time Between Dog & Wolf is also good for what you're looking for, but I haven't personally seen the drama yet myself. It was supposed to be the drama I should be watching now, but due to peer pressure I traded it out for Golden Empire.
I still can't decide whether to watch master's son. I usually don't like dramas written by the Hong sister duo.

I've looked at Under the Hawthorne Tree many times but passed on it for now because I'm not in a mood for sad endings.
You watching Legend reminds me that I've been in the mood for Wuxia films lately. I need to download those Shaolin Temple movies with the bad dubs. Remember those? They were popular in Jamaica (Caribbean?) when I used to go there on vacation with my mom.
I promised a friend I'd watch Family Honor with her. If you have seen it, how is it?

Oomieee! Another eye candy actor I've never met but have heard lots about! He goes on the list next to Junki Lee (haha his name is so much fun!). What's Min Woo's role in the drama?
Ugh, I really hate metrosexuality. Unfortunately Asian men seem to have it down to a science. :/
Are you watching or have you watched Golden Empire??? Oh my GOD! Go Soo, you talk about eye candy ...!
Given the fact that his acting here is TOPS, I don't feel so shallow spazzing over his beauty! ;p

Love 911 was my first encounter with Go Soo & I fell completely in love because I'm completely shallow! Girl, you should watch this. Cute, sexy movie. The female lead is also nice. Saw her first in Always & loved her. Anyway, Go Soo will totally tickle your ovaries! He plays a hot fire fighter grieving over his dead wife. Awwww ... poor baby! All through the show I was like come to me, darling, I'll comfort you! The female lead was competing with me to get him. Sadly, she won cuz she's Korean & I'm not! :)
The man is so freakin' gorgeous! I couldn't (and still can't really) call him an acting fav yet since I haven't seen him in anything else, but I've never seen a more classically handsome actor (of any actor, western or eastern!). I know of only one other Korean actor of equal beauty, Cho Seung-woo who was absolutely breathtaking in Chunhyang (even if he was just 19 yrs old at the time). I have a feeling Go Soo's gonna absolutely slay me in Golden Empire. I've already seen 1.5 ep & his acting is phenomenal so far.
Ok, you're right. I totally mixed up A New World with Confessions of Murder. I had to chuckle at your description of CoM. So it was that bad, huh? Now you make me want to see it even more! But I can't watch any more movies until I finish the reviews of others films I saw months ago.
I see you've been recommended I Saw the Devil. That's a pretty good one all round. This weekend I saw a movie called Inferno of Torture. Weird Japanese torture porn. Insane! Completely mindf---ed! It's a good thing I like totally effed s--- like these from time to time. It's one of the best in the genre I've seen. Quentin Tarantino has got nothing on Teruo Ishii.

Yes, you should re-watch it sometime. Give it another chance. Maybe it will strike you differently. It's a very artsy film which doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone, but it's so rich in allegory & metaphors. I just love these type of films which have something to say without preaching to the choir.
Anyway, still enjoying Gumiho? I had it on my list but took it off. How far along are you? Is the romance authentic or corny & juvenile?
Thx for the recs of Uhm Tæ Woong dramas. I love, love expressive eyes. They're the best tools an actor has in my opinion. A lot of time just how a character LOOKS can make a scene, an entire show even. It's one of the reasons why I'm so drawn to actor Hyun Bin because his eyes project emotions so well. Knife & Flower seems like a serious contender for my first experience with Uhm.
I have added Hanzawa Noaki to my list, just because I liked that 'If you screw me, I'll screw you twice over' quote so much. Sounds like my kinda character whoever said this! :)
Interestingly another friend of mine watched Feast of the Gods & gave it flying marks! I'm not a big fan of food dramas, but I was open to perhaps maybe watching it someday. Now I only need to determine which one of your tastes are more inclined to my own? Yours or hers? Oh the dilemma... haha

I have The Man from Nowhere on my list to watch. I must get around to it one day soon. Have heard nothing but acclaim for it. You still haven't said anything about what genres you prefer. Is that because you don't have any preferences, you just watch whatever sounds interesting to you?

Hello there, sorry for delay in writing back.
Usually Ahjussi is good when I feed him & leave him to the premiere league. But when he's bored he doesn't really like that I pay more attention to dramas than him, but it's something he's just gonna have to get used to! Dramas are here to stay! :p
I love Jin Mo Joo, but I don't think I can watch Queen of the Game. I've heard it's VEEEEEERY melodramatic! And I hate melos, and while I don't hate her or anything Lee Bo Young is an iffy actress for me. I've seen her in a couple of things & hmmm ... there's just something about her. Midas, I'm still on the fence about this one, but Jang Hyuk keeps me from writing it off totally. Will keep your review in mind whenever I have a look at it again.
You should definitely check out Cruel City! Great, fast paced drama with amazing characters. The writing is a bit poor & all over the place, but all the other elements I just mentioned made it enjoyable.
Thx for the movie recs! I have a few of them already on list, but will check out the others. Have you seen A Dirty Carnival with Jo In-sung?

Coffee, my dear, apologies for the delay in writing back! Ahjussi has been stressing me out lately about the amount of time I spend on MDL! Ha! As if his pouting is gonna change anything ...
Thx for the good wishes! We'll sure need them as all our previous efforts were waylaid by lack of vision and forethought. It's literally like talking to a stone wall when dealing with politicians in Jamaica. PM Portia Simpson Miller is perhaps the worst of them all. I'm happy to know that Jamaica is a pioneer for female leadership in the Caribbean, but how Simpson Miller got where she is with her 50s era politics is beyond me. Oh, that's not true, I do know. CORRUPTION!!!
Anyway, let's move on! lol
So did you finish GE? How did you rate? What about PP? I'm still only on ep 2, not by any fault of the show, but because I've been a bit busy lately so haven't had time to watch. Not to mention that during the weekend I became totally captivated by weird Japanese torture porn movies that had me so shocked that I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. You know, like a train wreck with body parts hanging everywhere that you can't look away from! Total mindf---!!!

As for what's the most important element of a drama or movie for me ... well, as someone who produce films for a living I'm of the opinion that film is like a house of cards. It's a very fragile form of art that can easily fall apart if one of its key elements (script, acting, directing, cinematography) is weak or missing. Not everybody see film as an artform. I do. So when I read scripts sent to me or in developing my own scripts I try to look for solid dramaturgy & visual storytelling. In order to make art films ALL elements must be equally strong to create a masterpiece. Thus, the best films for me are those that accomplish this - where I can not find fault or am inspired by its story, its direction and its acting. These are the type of films I enjoy the most both as someone who wants to be entertained (a viewer) & someone who wants to entertain (an artist).
However, in seeking entertainment I can still appreciate & rate a drama/movie highly where one or more of its key elements is weak or missing. It all comes down to emotional engagement, even if that's all there is. Do I CARE about what I've just seen? Am I moved in any way? An example of such a film would be Breathless. Not the best or the most original script, but so raw! I gave it a 10 because it grabbed my attention & forced me to listen, whether I wanted to or not. Brilliant!
Similarly, I've seen plenty shows where the script wasn't the best, but the characters brought to life by phenomenal acting or the storytelling is so visual that it engages my emotions & thoughts on a purely metaphysical level. Terrence Malick, Wang Kar-wei, Apichatpong Weerasethakul films usually affect me in this way. I'm seriously stoked about having the opportunity to work with Weerasethakul in less than 2 weeks time.

Hi Cheerful, pls forgive the somewhat late response. Thx for the recs of Oguri Shun dramas & movies. I came across the ones you mentioned when I went on a Shuni-ssi expedition after discovering him! :p
I decided to pass on Tokyo Dogs because Japanese humour doesn't translate well for me. Comes across too manga-ish which makes the acting look fake, imo. Juui Dolittle didn't make the cut bcuz even though I love animals it wasn't a drama I could see myself being in the mood for anytime soon. That may change with time, though. I overlooked Crow's Zero because of its school setting, but will reconsider giving it a go since I like gangsters & bromance. Hana Yori Dango (isn't this the JP version of Boys over Flower?), I've never considered adding any of the versions. This is so not my kind of show. I generally do not like Asian school/youth dramas, esp when they're romance. I like mature, adult romances. Not awkward, childish high school dalliances.
From Shun's list I have Smile, Wagaya no Rekishi, Densha Otoko, Great Teacher Onizuka, Gaku, Tajomaru, Sakuran and Sukijaki Western Django on my PTW. I don't remember why I added any of these dramas/movies, probably because I just liked how they sounded. Have you seen any of these? What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I just had to go & do a google search on them & I read the same thing, that he dumped her on text. Damn, that's cold, but typical male behaviour. That alone doesn't make him a jerk in my book so I can forgive him. I read he was otherwise an exemplary boyfriend, very romantic & attentive. Hopefully at age 43 he's more mature now, and goes about breaking up his relationships with more thought & sensitivity. I bet she really did love him. Her attraction to him in Lovers was extremely apparent & undeniable! Too bad.

Well, sadly, when you're that heartbreakingly handsome & with 'em sexy ass dimples on top of issues I guess you're gonna have some delusions & attitude problems. I hope they're just rumours though. I know break ups in general are messy & can turn even the nicest people into villains, but I hope in general he's an arite dude. I can't deal with jerks & I can deal with my crushes having a reputation of being jerks.
