Not saying it wasn't, but I was led to believe it was a drama with many other virtues than just cuteness. Needless to say I was sorely disappointed and I took out my anger on the drama by dropping it. A protest, if you will, against all the unwarranted and misleading hype that surrounded it.

So I've been told, but I'm very wary of dramas with the 'change your life' label! :)
QIHM was a very bitter pill to swallow. So forgive me if I look at that very popular drama with a jaundiced eye! lol

The main thing I dislike about romance in dramaland is the inauthentic portrayal of love/intimate relationships between a couple. It's often too fake (innocent), too cheesy & simply not believable in any way. There's usually a blatant lack of physical intimacy (not necessarily referring to sex here) between the characters that belie the fact that these are usually 1) people who supposedly are very much in love or 2) people who have been together for a long time. At my age I want to see a romance that's true to what you know happen between adults. Not adults acting like pre-teens who're just experiencing their first crush.
I guess it's a cultural thing. Having watched western entertainment all my life until just a year ago when I discovered Asian drama, I'm used to seeing more authentic depictions of relationships. It's a big culture shock for me to experience how they portray love relationships in Asia. After a year I'm still not used to it and I don't think I ever will be.
Most of my Hollywood favs are not romance movies. The Pianist, The Godfather Trilogy etc
Kamasutra? This Kamasutra: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116743/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1?
If so, I haven't seen it. Is it any good? I've only seen documentaries on or about Kamasutra, but no actual movies.
As for my age, I'm not sensitive about it at all. If anyone asks me my age I'll tell them. I'm not one of those females who fear getting old just for that reason alone & so hide their age from others. What I fear is getting old having not accomplished the things I need to have accomplished by a certain age. So if there's any fear that's the reason ... that I'm not where I need to be in life at age 31. I guess I'm not alone in feeling that way tho.
I'll send you the link for SS&L on pm.

I wouldn't mind having a look at Family Honor just to meet Park Shi-hoo, who I have never seen in a drama but hear a lot about. Apparently though there's an annoying & persistent love triangle throughout most of the show. That kinda turns me off.

Actually the comparison to Orange Days you mentioned didn't really have anything to do with why I dropped QIHM. I dropped it because I was led to believe it was something different than it was. When I was first introduced to it, there was a lot of hype surrounding the show and everyone said it was great! As it turned out it was just your standard cliche-ridden kdrama. Nothing special or groundbreaking about it, as far as I could see, so I dropped it ... somewhat in protest to all the undeserved hype & fangirling. :)
I'm still only on ep 2 of Golden Empire so it's hard to really formulate an opinion about the show at this point, but I will say the acting by the male lead Go Soo is phenomenal! I'm starting to really love this guy & he's amazingly handsome too! I just love when an actor is both eye candy & talented. Are you planning to watch this drama?

Yup, I can just tell I'm going to hate all the female characters. Not very impressed with the apparent male leads either. They all seem like schmucks, in addition to NO eye candy. The individual & combined stories of the 3 families don't seem that interesting to me either. I don't think I want to continue with this. Since this is a long drama I want to avoid putting myself thru 51 hrs of frustration.

I find it very interesting that you have When A Man's In Love as one of you top 5 dramas! :)
May I ask what you loved about it?
Thanks for letting me know who the writer of Unexpected You is. Now I can safely avoid all her shows.

Given up on dramaland? No, are you crazy? lol
Given up on trying to find the type of romantic drama I like. Sometimes I'm lucky and I find one that can pass, but I'm just starting to accept the fact that they just don't make romance like I'm used to in Asia.
Pretty high powered jobs you and your hubby have. The best kind of job I know of is one that makes you travel. I get to travel somewhat with my job, but not as often as I'd like. I used to be a travel adventurer (aka backpacker) back in my college days & that was a lot of fun, but ironically I had more disposable income as a student rather than now as a professional (but starving) artist. Go figure ...
Yup, Hyun Bin was right beside me at any given time & I did not know who he was. In fact while I always make it my business to watch a few Asian movies when I'm on the film festival circuit I hardly ever interacted with Asians filmmakers at industry events prior to the start of my drama addiction. The interest, or any opportunity to do business together really, was just never there so I didn't see the point when there were so many other people to meet & deals to make. Needless to say, that's all changed now!

Haha, what's your left shoe doing in the mix?
Sounds like you had fun. Good! :-)
um...Ji Sung, im not fan of his ( droped one drama bc of his acting) but liked one his movie...so i give this…
Raincat, which drama & which movie? I myself didn't like the one drama I've seen him in, but it wasn't necessarily because of him alone.
I'm keeping my eye on Secrets, but oh dear ... I see it has the same female from Can You Hear My Heart. Not good. I couldn't abide by the actress in CYHMH. I really couldn't.
Anyway, left you a message on feeds as well. Go check it out! :)

Hello Erin, thx for the request. Welcome to MDL! :)
I find it interesting that you're a fan of melos! I don't know how you do it. I find them too emotionally exhausting! But I see you have Padam Padam as one of your favs & that's one of my favs from the genre. It was my first k-drama. I loved it ... but the ending! :)
LOL, have at it chingu! It's already your birthday where I am so big up & blessings on your earthstrong. Make it matter! Am I allowed to ask the birthday kid how old she is?
Sunday, then! But just lemme know if you need a breather cuz I know some serious booze gonna be flowing tonight! ;-)

I dropped Queen In-hyun Man's at ep 15.
Don't ask me why, long story ... lol
