They've wrote many & are generally quite popular.

Some of their dramas include:
Master's Sun
Big
The Greatest Love
My Girlfriend is Gumiho
You're Beautiful
Hong Dong-gil
Couple or Trouble

among others.

I've only seen two of their dramas + the 1 ep from Master's Sun, but it's enough to make me know for sure that I don't like their style.

Wow, interesting job you have!
I'm a member of a film arts lobby in Jamaica, trying to get the government to recognize the incredible potential that lies within film for the country, but the Jamaican government is as always very backward & totally irresponsible in their thinking on most developmental potential the island has. I mean visionary leadership is just completely lost on them.

They have lost so many investments from both big and small productions due to their inertia & overall lackadaisical approach to recognizing & harnessing new growth potential that's outside the normal scope of what they focus on.

And I feel justified in saying this because I am Jamaican as much as I am American. I'm not sitting on some high horse bashing Jamaica. I am just stating facts. Film has a lot of momentum in the Caribbean now. Jamaica should strike while the iron is hot, but as usual they only start to pay attention when the boat has already sailed.

A Jamaican movie with an entirely Jamaican cast & crew was forced to film in Trinidad (using Trinidadian actors with fake Jamaican accents! #smfh) because the Jamaican gov refused to give tax breaks on production costs & equipment, refused to let the crew film for free on publicly owned property, refused to waive the duty on vital equipment that are not available in Jamaica & so has to be imported. They make things incredibly difficult for both local & overseas creatives. I've wanted to film on the island for ages, but I'm disgusted by all the nonsense and red tape. Way too much hassle when things are so much easier elsewhere.

Oh ::dies::...
You met Kimmy? What? When, where, how!? How was he?
I work in film so I get a lot of opportunities to meet a few of my favs from time to time, not that I always take advantage. Once you work in the biz you kind of lose your star struck ways because you realize these 'stars' are actually just like you, only richer.

Anyway, February 2011 (looong before I even knew what 'drama' in reference to Asian TV shows meant :) I went to the Berlinale & was at a mix & mingle with Hyun Bin (who at the time I did not know was THE HYUN BIN) & other cast/crew members of his movie Come Rain Come Shine. He was literally 2, 3 feet away from me at any given time, but I was totally oblivious. Now completely smittened with the guy in every which way, I think about that wasted opportunity all the time. Chances are good that may run into him again in the future so I'm not too crushed, but gosh ... every time I think about it I cringe.

It's nice spending time with family isn't it? I miss my mommy so much! Haven't seen her in about 3 yrs! So yes a looooong Christmas vacation is due.

It sounds like you have an incredibly interesting job that makes you travel to all kinds of exotic locale. If I remember correctly, you're a doctor, aren't you? A head doctor? :) Do you attend conferences & the like on these trips? Forgive my curiosity! I'm just always fascinated by other people's experiences out in this big wide world.

As for having found what I'm looking for in dramaland. Comedy wise, yes. Romance the way I like romance, no. I don't think they make my kind of romance in Asia & esp NOT in Japan. So I've given up.

Don't worry about my tastes. They're not set in stone! ;p
Just recommend whatever you liked on his list & I'll decide whether it's for me or not because like I explained before the way I choose to watch things is often totally random & not necessarily based on my preferences all the time.

I hear what you're saying about characters & actors and I agree to an extend. I agree that there should be a distinction between characters and the actor. I try to do this in most of my reviews, though it's not every time I feel compelled to go into detail about a show.

There's a saying in the film world, a rule of thumb if you will, popularized by the late great Akira Kurosawa: 'a mediocre director can sometimes make a passable film out of a good script, but even an excellent director can never make a good film out of a bad script'. I think this can also be true for actors.

Mediocre actors can get away with murder if the script is good to begin with, but if the script is not well developed from the get-go no matter how good an artist you are behind or in front of the camera it's going to be a waste of talent. Having said that bad actors can ruin an otherwise decent role. I've see it so many times in Western cinema, esp American movies & tv shows. And also a few occasions in Asian cinema too. I'm trying to think of concrete examples where I think this has occurred, but I'm running blank. Too early in the morning before my vitamin boost smoothie! :p

Impatience, impatience, impatience! :p
Not that there are any big surprises in SS&L, but not watching the show in one go & not understanding what they're saying minimizes the impact of the story, chingu. You should have come see me about where to get it. Speaking of which I downloaded it from a bittorrent site called fenopy.se. You don't have to worry about downloading from this site. It's pretty reliable (verified torrents are torrents you know you can 100% trust) & one that I use all the time, esp before I joined asiatorrents. The following link is the link I personally used to download the movie:
http://fenopy.se/torrent/the+sweet+sex+and+love+2003+xvid+ac3+2audio+2cd+waf/NjMzNjA2Mw

You brought some interesting points about the movie that I'd like to respond to, but watch it in its entirety first & then come back & let's discuss! :)
At first I thought the movie was just porn too & I almost dropped it. I think it took me a month to finally finish it but when I did, it turned out to be a really thought provoking movie about modern relationships how awry they can run when you don't make things clear from the start. Anyway, finish up & let's talk chingu! :)

As for Sweet Room, watch the Korean equivalent 5 Senses of Eros! Some of the stories in that one are even weirder, but overall still worth the watch since they're so short!

The actress in Tatta. I think I just don't like her. Have only seen her in Tatta & should probably give her a few more chances before I write her off, but usually I can tell pretty early on whether an actor works for me or not, esp female ones. I don't think she'll ever grow on me, but I won't avoid shows that she's in just because she's in it. I don't hate her THAT much. That distinction is reserved for Ha Ji Won & Kim Ha-neul! :D

Does anyone know where I can find it? I like horrors so bad! I'll definitely gonna watch it at night!

OMG, Coffee, that's amazing!!! If you don't mind my asking, what is your profession?
I really hope this trip pans out for you! Best way to travel to an expensive country like Japan is via your company's expense account! lol
I think your strategy to play it cool was spot on because if you show too much enthusiasm things have a way of working against you. Anyway, I'll defo keep my fingers crossed for you, girl! :-)

I feel you.
It is what it is. If you don't like it, you don't like it.
You're the second friend who have expressed feeling overwhelmed by all the negative emotions the show evokes. But my other friend is still watching & from all indications still likes it too.
Now I'm very curious to watch it and see what my reaction is.
I saw the first ep of Master's Sun. Wasn't bad, but I'm always suspicious of Hong sister dramas. They start off good but get reeeallly draggy in the 2nd & 3rd acts. I don't really like them, no.
I'm still on Can You Hear My Heart. At the moment it's hovering at 6. It has some good moments, but mostly the characters annoy me a great deal.

Lucky you! Are you just a tourist or spending time with family there? I know you must get this stupid question a lot but have you ever come across any of your favourite actors while there? I would just die if I met Kimura Takuya, Takanouchi Yukata or Abe Hiroshi. lol

LOL, no, no, no, not YOU messing with other people's profile. Me! Usually when I post a comment to someone's profile I go back to their wall & check the msg for grammatical errors and so on. While there I'd come across various comments left by other MDLer, some of which have been yours. That's how I knew you were in NY for a little while.

I have been well. Some minor health issues, but I'll live. I'm considering Hanzawa Naoki & Woman is on my list. It caught my interest the day it was announced & I've heard nothing but good things about it. I've heard it's pretty sad though so I'm not in any rush to watch it right at this moment. For the past year or so I've only been in the mood for laugh out loud comedy or a good, solid adult romance with happy ending.

Prison Break was sick! I loved the first season the best. Prison shows are always exciting because the stakes are so high. The threat of violence, always present. Really liked Oz too, but PB is better by far.

As for Wentworth Miller, you know what I sort of got the vibe he was gay throughout the entire show, even though it didn't matter to me. I loved Michael & the whole gang. But I hated his romance with Sarah. Ok, I don't really care for the actress, but aside from that he had absolutely ZERO chemistry with her. I mean NONE.

Their scenes together were always so ... stilted. I could just tell he didn't feel comfortable being so intimate with a woman.

Anyway, gay or not he was the right person to play Scofield.

I saw an interview with him recently where he talked about his suicide attempt, but he said that was in high school, early college days. He didn't mention an attempt during the making of PB.

As for wanting to watch a calmer show after a roller coaster. I get it. Felt the exact same way after watching Que Sera Sera!

Hey Yuki, long time! Haven't seen you around in a while. Messing around on other people's profiles I think I read you are or were in the big apple for a spell?

Otherwise all is well? What's cooking in dramaland for you these days?

You noticed when he's smiling he has a funny face like that -> :3

Hahaha, girl you got it good! The guy has totally wiggled his way into your figurative undies! Don't even bother to try and deny it! ;)

But not to worry I notice every odd little mannerism of my favourite men too! :)

I didn't like the female lead in Tatta either, but rather than my dislike just being for the character I don't think I care for the actress.

This:

'ok, you have trust issues, I understand, but maybe it would be nice ,honey-bunny, if you would give him the chance to talk to you and explain his point of view also, instead of avoiding him'

Aigoo ... I have seen this before. I'm now convinced Eriko Kitagawa must hate women ... since she always sends them off the deep end toward the end of her dramas, leaving the men (and US, the audience) wondering WTF just happened. #smdh

Hurry up & watch those sexy movies. I'd love to discuss. I recommend prioritizing Sweet Sex & Love.

Grrr ... sorry for the double post! Must be a bug or something because I didn't message you twice.

Anyway, yeah, I believe you. With a well made production (good cast, good script, good direction), & from all indications this is one, you can hit all the right notes. I've heard this show compared to Prison Break, one of my top favourite shows ever, except all the action takes place in the boardroom rather than prison. This got me excited because I was a slave to Prison Break the entire time it was on air. I still watch the dvds from time to time when I need a fix of good crime.

Good, solid points on the craft of acting! I'm pleased to see that many of your 'real' actors are also real for me too. All the guys on my favs list (& many others who aren't) are solid performers imo. Just yesterday I was looking at Takenouchi Yukata pic & I came to realize that I really love this guy as an actor. I haven't seen him in anything where I was disappointed with his performance, and I've been steadily making my way thru his filmography by pure coincidence. I started to like Oguri Shun too after RMPW. I'm not quite a fully fledged fan yet, but I see him. Need to watch more of his stuff (any good rec, btw?). I would also mention Tony Leung. Rewatched him recently in In The Mood for Love & the guy's a class act.

I find that a lot of my favourite actors are older performers. They seem a lot more grounded in their acts & not so literal in their interpretation of emotions. Younger performers, with few exceptions, always go overboard; screaming at the top of their lungs when they're supposed to be angry, unconvincing crying, comical exaggerated looks of shock and the list goes on. It might be easy to think that older actors have an advantage due to their life experience, and perhaps they do, but not completely. I certainly don't think it's impossible for younger actors to deliver powerhouse performances. With a combination of good training & skilled direction they can, and do.

In the drama I'm watching now, Can You Hear My Heart, the younger cast get on my nerves with each ep, but it's a pleasure watching the older actors.

Anyway, I hate flower boys! Not just their fake, wooden acting but also how they tend to look. Too well-groomed. A man should look a little rugged, imo. Too bad in Asia most men seem to like rocking the metrosexual, androgynous look. :(

Interesting perspective, Edu! :-)
I always love hearing your thoughts on things because you bring a fresh perspective that makes me think about or realize stuff that didn't even cross my mind! And as you and I have discussed before I too hate when they throw in a lacklustre romance that's not a cohesive part of the plot. I shall look forward to watching Battle Royale & see if I agree with you overall. Will let you know!

Otherwise, what's up? How was the get together on Saturday?

Coffee, I've only watched the first ep, but wow Go Soo's character is too intense! I love these riveting anti-hero type of leads. Looking forward to see where this show goes, although I know for sure I too would have enjoyed it a lot better if there was some romance in it.

I think romance humanizes otherwise cold, unscrupulous characters & make them more 3-dimensional because you begin to sympathize with them ... even when you're not suppose to. I don't think that's misplaced because even the worst of every criminal have feelings. Anyway I've already reconciled myself to the thought that there will be none & will just go along for the ride.

I've decided to finish up CYHMH before continuing with GE, though. I can't seem to concentrate on two shows at one time. BTW, did you pick it back up or are you still on a break? How far along are you? And what about Padam Padam?

Hi! Came stalking your profile because of your review of Azooma. Can you please tell me which drama the second gif on the right (with the couple cuddling on the bed) is from? The scene looks pretty sexy! :D
And that guy posing in what appears to be nothing but an apron (5th gif on left) ... is that from Can You Hear My Heart? Cheers! ;D
