Hey Raincat, thanks for the rec! I've been looking for other dramas of his to watch since Sweet 18. I looked at Sang Doo, Let's Go to School but wasn't drawn to the plot. I'll look into it some more & see if it's for me. LOL, why do you say LDG should have ended up with Rain? Does he play a gay character in the drama? This weekend I might watch him in Changing Partners if I'm in the mood. I think this could be a role I could like him in.

By the way, I must apologize for not responding to your last post. I watched THV but I wanted to wait until I watch it again to give my final feedback. As soon as I have done so I'll post you! :)

What's on your watchlist these days? Anything you'd like to recommend?

Was it a movie set or a TV show set you were on?
Reshoots are usually more chaotic than the actual shoot because just the fact that you have to reshoot stuff is stressful in and of itself. The production has more than likely gone over budget & is likely to be delivered in to the producers late. This puts a lot of pressure on everyone on set & that in turn results in very short tempers.

With that said, however, show business is not known for it's charm. Unfortunately. LOL Big egos abound & for many belittling others make them feel better about themselves. Sadly.

I lived in LA for a spell very early on in my career, while I was still in film school. I didn't like it. People were a tad too two-faced & insincere for a straight shooter like me. LOL

I'll go back one day ... just to collect my Oscar. Haha!

As for living in Seoul, trust me Asian cinema has already transformed my writing. My colleagues have already commented on it. LOL. I feel like I can take the best from both worlds & incorporate it into my screenplay. So yeah I imagine Seoul would be an even greater inspiration. Really hope I get to go there one day soon! :)

Hey, I noticed just now on your profile that you're of Japanese & Norwegian heritage. How exotic! What's your connection to Norway if you don't mind me asking? For the time being I live in Oslo.

Can You Hear My Heart (or Voice or whatever) is a kdrama, yes. Everyone's been urging me to watch it. I might give it a go soon. I don't know any of the actors, but the story seems interesting to me. I like storylines that involve disabilities. Last drama I watched about deafness was Orange Days & that was pretty much a masterpiece so if this drama is in the same vein I might be in for a good ride.

How's Feast of the Gods going for you? I've considered watching it, but it seems a bit too melo for me. I don't mind a good melo (like Padam Padam) from time to time, mind you, but generally I avoid them.

I reread my previous comment to you & I didn't quite make my point (I wrote that post in haste!). What I wanted to say is that even though at first glance the story is quite simple & not entirely original given that we've seen countless films about infidelity, but that the artistry of the cinematography & direction enrich the story in such a way that moves the viewer to feelings a lesser director through his work would not have been able to elicit.

LOL, I hope I'm making sense. Now I'm just tired after a long day and one too many after work beers. :)

To answer your question ... do you mean how much school/experience have influenced my perspective of ITMFL or films in general? For the former, I'd say somewhat. I always had an interest in film so I had perhaps an above average eye for filmatic detail from early on though since I was untrained I didn't know exactly what to look for.
Since film school & subsequent industry experience I wouldn't say I've developed an even more critical eye ... well, perhaps a bit, but I'm no critic. What I feel school & work have done for me is help me to find my own voice as a creator. Before that I was perhaps just fascinated by movies, now I have a stake in it, for everything from story concept to post prod.

There are certain characteristics to every film that I make. A signature of sorts. I'm still young & fairly inexperienced as a writer/director (I majored in producing). So as a creator I'm still figuring stuff out. The more films I make the closer I get to who I really am as a filmmaker, I hope. I have high ambitions for the project I'm working on now, which is my first film in 2 yrs. And its still perhaps a year away. Film is a time consuming business. :)

I've heard of My Way. Shall have a look. Thx for the rec! :)

Lol, you changed your name! I sat here for a good 10 mins wondering who the heck is Opie-Winston & then I remembered! :)

Did you get around to watching any of the films we talked about last time? Nameless Gangster, A Better Tomorrow & the like?

No worries! I appreciate all the detail I can get without spoiling the story.

I'm not interested in long drawn out political dramas, historical or otherwise, but I'll watch anything with this man in it. Though like I said I'll take my time, he he he. Until he comes back to acting (here's to hoping that he DOES come back!) I need to curb my enthusiasm so as not to run out of things to watch.

And OMG, Lee Seo-jin & his dimples! I can just imagine how many women he's seduced with those weapons! Well, he sure can seduce me any time! Haha

My love for a fav character never ends. Rather what happens is that I meet new characters that I fall in love with all the time so the older ones get faded to the background, but they're always there. Always & forever. Halu-san is one man I'll never forget & so is Kang Jæ (Lee Seo-jin's character in Lovers). Mad!

As for Love & Honour, I make no guarantees that you'll like anything I rec as much as I do, but if you're a Kimo fan, I think it's worth a watch. For me it was great seeing him in a historical setting, among other positives. I enjoyed the romance despite it being of a tamer variety than what I normally prefer. I felt love & passionate (the proverbial chemistry) between the characters even though they barely touched. A mark of good casting & acting. Try it & see.

No, I haven't watched it, but I've been debating whether I should ... if only for the sake of Song Seung-hun. That man is fine! lol

But pretty much everyone has warned me off it. I'm told on good authority (by someone who knows my tastes well) that I'll hate it. The female lead seems to be particularly hated. I watched some clips from the drama on YouTube & I must agree with all the jabs at her wooden, irritable acting. I'm surprised you say you feel sorry for her. From everything I've heard Song's character is the real victim. Not only is he dealt a raw deal due to his circumstances & other characters being mean to him, but she, his love interest, treats him like crap & even cheats on him in his own house?!? WHAT? That alone sent my blood pressure through the roof so out of concern for my health I decided to pass for now...lol

I am plagued by bouts of madness though (as in the case of watching Sweet 18) so it's not 100% of the tables yet. Haha

Lol, I've seen Kimo in only two things Pride and Love & Honour. It took only Pride for me to decide that I'm totally in love with him. Haha

Definitely check him out in Love & Honour. He does great in it & it's a period film so should be right up your alley.

Yeah I've only seen hot bod ahjussi in Lovers. Man, did I love him in that. So sexy! I'm slowly making my way through his filmography. I read that he's semi-retired from acting so I'm taking my time since I don't want to run out of things to watch.

You're really doing yourself a disservice having not seen Lovers. Get on it! :)

By the way, how was Yi San? Was there enough romance & if so were the kisses any good?

Good Doctor? It's actually the only airing drama that I'm not so interested in because I don't really like medical dramas, but I'll keep an open mind until the reviews. I've had my eyes on 2 Weeks. I like action dramas. Too bad it started off slow, hopefully it picks up later.

So you'll be in Tokyo until 2015. Nice! Are you enjoying it? How are the men? I heard a rumor that most Japanese men are pretty sex-crazed. But aren't all men? lol

lol #smh

My love for Lovers is entirely my own. I don't expect others to feel the same way about it as I do nor am I disappointed or hurt if they don't like it. So watch it or don't watch it, up to you! :)

Hehe, for me even when the story & characters are great it's still frustrating when the romance appears in the last 2 minutes of the show! Grrr...

I have to admit I'm still suffering from culture shock regarding this! :) I'd prefer they leave out the romance entirely rather than tease us with it & then not deliver! This is kind of what happened in Nagareboshi. Truly disappointing.

Say, I noticed just now that you have When A Man Loves on your favourites list? Wow! :) You're the 1st fan of this drama I've encountered.

Pretty much everyone else cut this down every chance they get. And can't really say I blame them if the particularly laughable kiss scene I saw on YouTube is anything to go by! It did not endear this drama to me at all although I'm still tempted to watch it just for Song Seung Son.

So can you help me understand? How? Why did this work for you? :)

I saw In The Mood for Love in the early 2000s when it was first released & introduced to Western audiences. The film left an impression that didn't quite sink in until years later when I was in film school. By this time I had matured somewhat, both as a person & someone with an interest for cinematic art. When I saw a rescreening of the film at a festival in London it just blew me away with how exquisitely symbolic the shots were!

This film is pure art. It's able to tell a story entirely in pictures (without the need for dialogue). Every filmmaker aspire to such artistry. And it is admired in film circles exactly for this reason. The breathtaking cinematography, the magnificent attention to detail in the direction, the superb cast.

The best cinema occur when technique couples seamlessly with story. For what is a technically sound film if you're left with nothing, emotionally, at the end? For many filmmakers it's not possible to be a great technician AND a great storyteller at the same time. You're either one or the other & only the true masters accomplish both.

For me ITMFL delivered in both departments. The story might have been mundane & average, but the framing of the pictures used to tell that story is what's so moving & beautiful about the film. The voyeuristic intimacy of the cinematography that give us a glimpse of these people's anguish as if we were seeing their life unfold through a crack in the door. Perfection.

I'm glad you enjoyed it even if it wasn't perfect in your eyes. :)

I'll leave you now to watch whatever you want! lol
Is there anything you're particularly enjoying at the moment? I'm thinking about starting Can You Hear My Heart? (or is it Voice?). Whatever. I'm told it's suppose to be good! Do you have any favs you'd like to recommend me?
