Jang Ha-Ri is an irony for Jang Na-Ra, who despite being (supposedly) single often finds herself rumoured to be…
If you believe in personality archetypes based on the zodiac, then Jang Na Ra, who is a Pisces, is and has always likely to have had a man in her life. Pisces, like other water signs (Cancers, Scorpios) seem to fall into 2 categories, either they're extremely socially awkward otakus who are barely capable of interacting with people & so they live in a dream world. Or they're serial daters, rarely single because they don't like and/or can't be alone. At least not for any long period of time. These are usually the people who jump from one relationship to the next without a break in between. Of course, there are always exceptions but generally speaking, that's kinda how they operate.
Water signs are also nurturing and maternal/paternal ... so many of them will likely have or want to have children. I'm sure Jang Na-Ra pushing 40 yrs old, this drama is a reflection of the stage of life she's in where she might be thinking about having a kid ...
I remember a few years ago when I was in Korea, I asked this 40 yr old woman I met in a bar if she had children. She answered 'No, I've never been married'. Being from a country & society where children having children - out of wedlock - is glamorized on shows like Teen Mom & 16 and Pregnant, and where marriage isn't a requirement to have children, I found her response interesting. The implication was that she could not have had kids unless she was married. But in the context of Korean society, it makes perfect sense because having a kid out of wedlock in Korea is very highly frowned up.
What is up with Channel A and their weird age gaps? It's always the guy who is several years older. Some exec…
I guess we look out for what we don't like because my experience is the opposite. It seems like if there's going to be an age gap drama, it's likely to be a noona romance. The ahjussi romances happen, but are way less frequent. I personally prefer ahjussi romances over noona ones, so for me this is good news! I love Eric, as long as his co-star isn't annoying, I'm good!
Woo Jae going back to Hae Ri has to be the joke of the century, but it's somehow not out of character at all.…
Man, you took the words right out of my mouth. I should have been happy with their ending, but I wasn't. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth after how she & her mother treated him throughout the show. They ruined his life long dream of being a top golfer & nothing came of it except a few fake apologies (because we all know when the next big prize comes along, neither she nor her mother will have any qualms about throwing Woo Jæ under the bus).
I didn't like their relationship from the beginning, but they started to grow on me in the middling episodes, then she copped out on him at the wedding and I was just done! I don't blame her for what her mother did, but she's totally complicit in ruining his golf dream by the way she manipulates and mistreats him. She has him henpecked & ultimately she's going to completely ruin his life. I'm 100% sure he's going to end up like her father after entering that family, dead by suicide! Because le's face it, Woo Jæ is too soft, gentle & goodnatured to survive in that den of vipers. Too bad he's too dumb to see that for himself.

Love to hear it. I look forward to seeing if I get cursed or worse ... lol I gave you an out to drop because I see you're a serious dropper, but much respect for taking on the challenge of watching it to the end. Let's see if you can actually fulfill that promise. ;)
It's full lockdown where I am too. I'm trying my best not to get infected! The situation in France is worrisome. Take care! And keep me posted on how the drama is going.

LOL ... ok, ok. :-) You're lucky I forgot the initial punishment I had in store for you! ;) That one was worst than what I'm about to give you ... haha!
Ok, so I hereby sentence you to watch the drama Golden Empire. Since you reminded me of my right, I'm going to be lenient and not require you to complete the whole drama (if you don't want to), but you must complete at least HALF the episodes before you can drop it. There are 24 episodes in total so you must watch 12 episodes in full. You'll have no opportunity to drop until ep 13.
I'm not sure what life is like for you where you are or if your country is on lockdown because of coronavirus, but you must do your best to complete your sentence within April 2020.
same here! I'm kind of confused where it came from, they acted like siblings before and now they're starting to…
LOL, I guess you don't watch many family dramas. It was quite obvious from the establishing scenes who the couples were going to be, including when it comes to these two. I think Eun Ji x Poong Ki have nice chemistry so it doesn't bother me. I'm glad they paired her with a guy of around the same age as most dramas would've probably forced a noona romance with some super young guy who looks like her son & I hate when they do that. Technically, it's still a noona romance since she's older than her love interest by 4 yrs, but at least the difference in their ages doesn't *show*, which is the biggest pet peeve I have about noona romance - when the actress looks too old for the actor.
There are a lot of sheeple, and what I call 'bandwagonist feminists' in this world, and esp on this site. They'll drink any koolaid as long as it looks sweet. Nary a thought of their own forming has ever sprung forth from their minds. Just drink the koolaid!
You, mr. Kang Ji Hwan are a dirtbag. The fact that you only got 3 yrs probation is a travesty. You should have been put under the jail. You don't deserve a happy birthday and I won't wish you one. When I hear of rapists being executed in India, I think 'Damn good!'. That's what you deserve for debasing someone with such a vile act as rape.
As usual, I see it didn't take long for all the 'victim blaming' arguments to be in full force on this thread. Typical when the topic of rape/sexual assault comes up. I can understand both sides of the argument. Even if a woman walks naked on the street, that doesn't give any man the right to rape her. It is not an invitation to be raped and this is something fundamental all men should be taught. Men should not rape, period. I don't care if she accidentally tripped and landed on your penis, RAPE IS WRONG!
On the other hand, I also hear the other side (see because I can use my brain to see the nuance in things. Give it a go sometimes, people!). We *should* live a world where we don't fear any sort of violence, but we don't. That's a fact. And ain't no amount of burying your head in the sand is going to change that. No one is more responsible for our own safety than us. We should calculate the potential risks to ourselves before doing basically anything (this is true for BOTH women and men). When we don't do that, bad things happen to us. That's just real life, kids. Wake up and smell the coffee?
Therefore, telling men not to rape & reminding women to take responsibility for their own safety ... I think it's right to say both. Both are true. Is that victim blaming? Whatever ... if it keeps you from getting raped, I'll keep on doing it.
The argument that reminding women to take responsibility for their own safety ABSOLVES wicked men of their actions or gives them LICENSE to rape is a ridiculous argument steeped in irrational feminist logic that I've never been able to wrap my head around.

"This screenwriter can't help but create hassles that force the brain to work!"
You know what, this is exactly why I loved NINE. It had a great, well-balanced combination of genres, it kept me on the edge of my seat and it wasn't one of those brainless, cotton candy dramas that you just consume and forget about it afterwards. Heck, I even overlooked my aversion to the actress playing the female lead to keep watching!
With Nine, you have to pay attention and engage your brain to follow the many intricate details. Looking back on my notes about the show, that's what I loved most about it! This is why even though the writer loves open-to-interpret endings (which tend to match the tone & mood of the story, I admit), where the leads are likely to be separated by some cosmic force of space & or time, I keep wanting to watch her stuff. Go to my feeds & read my notes. You have to scroll down a bit to 4 yrs ago.
I realized she wrote Queen In-Hyun's Man, which I dropped in a fit of rage back in 2013 because I just didn't understand her style back then. I remember the plot was filled with uncertainty & danger for our protagonists ... I got annoyed at the constant separation of the couple (after so many treacherous maneuverings to *finally* get them together each time). I felt like just when we're about to get some sweet, romantic moments, something happens to interrupt them. You know, at the end of the day I am a girl & a romantic so I care about those things! lol. I was very new to dramas then too so I didn't know much about the structure of k-dramas or anything back then.
Anyway, in my defense, it wasn't just my shallowness or lack of understanding for the k-drama format, genre or the writer. Queen In-Hyun's Man was the writer's first forray into the fantasy romance drama verse (it seems prior to this drama she did a lot of conventional dramedies/romcoms). Naturally there was some growing pains with her first attempt into new territory.
By the time Nine came around the next year, though, she'd improved exponentially with that drama. Which is why 9 got completed and netted a 9, and QIHM got dropped. For some reason, though, I wasn't as pulled in by her next drama after Nine - The Three Musketeers. There I remember the FL - played by the same actress as in Another Oh Hæ Young, one of the dramas mentioned in the OP's article - was a big part of why the drama didn't work for me. The story too wasn't as impressive as Nine, as I recall. Then, she wrote W, then Memories of Alahambra.
I'm going to watch MoA, as I told you. Maybe one day you can actually convince me to pick up W. Although with the stakes against it - LJS, the bad kissing (I know you get annoyed with me when I dismiss a drama for this reason lol) and the more than averagely bad ending - I don't know how you're going to do that, but keep trying! Fighting! ;-)
I really like "damsel in distress" characters. Even when the character is stupid. To put herself in such a risky…
Ok, great description! Thx! Perhaps not the best drama to start just before bed. I'll keep it in mind, though! If it's constantly negative with no reprieve in the form of comedy or romance, then it might be too frustrating for me to watch. If I'm to enjoy the drama and give it a fair shot, I need a breather from all strife and negativity every now again. Does that happen? I may have to wait until I am in the right frame of mind to watch this. Right now my drama mood/appetite is 'light/fluffy' or something 'fast-paced & suspenseful' like Kingdom (which I noticed you weren't particularly taken by, btw).
I have seen Donnie Brasco. Donkey years ago, but I remember it being a great movie! Very thrilling!
