He's definitely leading man material. Tall, muscular, handsome ... smoking hot! Who cares if he can act? Haha I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of him!
I am. I like the fact that an interracial relationship is featured. It caters to my fantasy of dating Oguri Shun, Sormachi Takashi, Kimura Takuya and a whole host of fine Japanese gents. But I don't trust j-dramas. To me, they're often unnecessarily tragic and pessimistic. My first drama was an Asadora called Oshin. This was back in the early '90s, I remember my mother and I loved it to bits, but it was also quite sad. I'll still watch Massan regardless though. Thank you for the links.
Seriously too sexy for his own good! And he's a decent actor too, loved him in Arigatou, Papa and lusted after him in Cheap Love even though his character was a bit of a sleaze.
By the way, I like this current pic. The previous one of him in a suit made him look older than he is. Glad it was changed.
From my experience, people who strictly only watch dramas from one country and claim to dislike every other country's…
Beautifully put! I 100% agree. I don't get people who do the one country thing either. I respect people's right to freedom of expression so I never say anything directly to anyone about it, but I'm always just a tad bit annoyed when they make bold proclamations about how much better one country's drama is over another. In my mind I'm like ... girl please have a seat. There are good dramas from every country just as there are bad dramas from every country.
One country might focus more on certain genres - for eg Japan seems to do a lot of mysteries and police procedurals whilst Taiwan does a lot of romance & relationship dramas. If you're a fan of a particular genre mostly to the exclusion of all others then you might end up watching more of one country's dramas than others, but if you have no preference & like to watch everything (like I do) then you'll find something to enjoy from ALL countries.
For me rather than one country being better than the other, I look out for other stuff. There are certain tropes (and actors) I don't like in my dramas & I'll avoid a drama if these are present, but I don't care about where a drama is made. I kind of think that's the adventure of watching Asian dramas because there are so many to choose from. When I need a break from one country's dramas I hop over to the next for a change of scenery & pace. I think it's awesome. I don't understand people who just stick to one country all the time. That makes no sense to me, but like I said to each their own.
The thing that pisses me off everytime: people who claim they don't like a certain genre or type of show but they…
LOL, you might be right. Perhaps that's the way they release their stress, but I still hate it and I want to strangle people like that every time I come across them. There are a few of them on MDL, but once I recognize who they are I try my best to avoid them. Needless to say, I don't always succeed.
The thing that pisses me off everytime: people who claim they don't like a certain genre or type of show but they…
I hear you, but I'm not talking about a one off incident. I can understand someone having a need to finish something they've started because I'm the same way too. I don't like doing anything half-assed; I finish 9/10 of everything I watch. I rarely drop (even if it's a drama I realize that I don't like as I'm watching it) so these are NOT the people I'm talking about.
The people I'm talking about are the ones who time and time again specifically identify a genre they say they don't like (usually it's romance/rom coms), but every season they start watching all the romance dramas that are released. Then they start spewing their nonsense. Why? I just don't get it. And it drives me up the wall.
The thing that pisses me off everytime: people who claim they don't like a certain genre or type of show but they constantly chose to watch every show in that genre as they're released. Then they turn around and bitch about how the show is stupid.
Once I figure out certain shows and genres aren't for me I stop watching them. Period. The other day I realized that even though I like many elements of family dramas I hate that they're always so makjang & prudish in their execution of romantic relationships so I stopped watching them. I took them off my watch list. No more family dramas for me. In fact, that's why in just 2 yrs of watching dramas I've become very picky about the type of dramas I watch. I try my best to avoid the dramas I know will push my buttons, but sometimes I misjudge a show or I'm led ashtray by folks and I end up watching a show I normally would avoid, but I don't deliberately seek them out just to bash them.
I'm thinking why the fuck do you keep watching something you claim you don't like then start talking crap around people who you know love this sort of thing? If you're just pulling a joke then okay, but I've seen people constantly bitching 'That's why I hate romance dramas, they're so stupid!'. It is very easy to detect if a drama is romantic in nature so if you know you don't like cheesy romance stuff don't watch it! It just goes from constructive criticism (if it ever was that) to passing judgment on others for liking what you don't. I had a big falling out with a very popular poster on this site for this very reason because it got to the point where I had to tell this person to STFU. Normally I'm good at ignoring people but my cup just ran over.
All the other stuff ... meh, what people think about my tastes/preferences is not my business so none of the other complaints tend to bother me, esp if we're talking about fandoms. Fandoms are made up of crazy people. I throw mental rocks at them.
When a woman behaves badly, other women make excuses for her, but when a man betrays a woman ... he's the biggest asshole on the planet and the subject of much hate & vitriol. And then women accuse men en masse of double standards. Right. Way to go, girls!
Affairs SUCK. Whether you're man or woman, if you're on the receiving end of betrayal, that shit hurts. Sure some couples can and do bounce back from an affair, but in general if you wanna play around, LEAVE. Especially if there are no children involved. I hate cheaters (not all ... I do understand people are humans and can make mistakes ... but most). I've had my fill of these type of dramas (Temptation & When A Man Loves were enough) so I'll stay far far far away from this one.
I feel like the only one happy with the open ending! Yes, it was a little rushed but compared to all those others…
You, dear friend, with this comment have convinced me not to watch this drama. I hate - absolutely HATE - endings that just ... trail off in the middle of a sentence. With no feasible explanation. Koreans have a tendency to abuse the open/ambiguous ending concept. Their idea of leaving an ending to the audience's interpretation always strike me as low-brow and stupid, in my most humble and insignificant opinion, which is completely beneath them! To just end something openly or ambiguously just for the sake of it is a sign of complete disrespect for one's audience. The ending even if it's open or ambiguous must have a larger meaning in context of the overall story. A great ambiguous ending is like the one in the movie 3 - Iron because while it's left to interpretation, the connecting dots throughout the narrative is maintained. Nothing feels like something from left field. You're not left feeling uncomfortable, like something is missing. Another good open ending is from the Hollywood film Enemy (2014). It had a weird ambiguous ending that doesn't insult or frustrate the audience. Rather it leaves one pleasantly intrigued, wondering what the heck did you miss. It makes you want to watch the movie all over again rather than toss it in frustration.
I haven't seen the drama yet, but I appreciate your review. Even without having seen it for myself I believe every word you've written. Why? Because I had the exact same complaints about another action crime drama, Cruel City. Deadly assassins just standing around allowing themselves to get their ass kicked ... Korean writers and directors treating their audiences like illiterate idiots. Yup, sounds like business as usual to me. They just can't feel comfortable if they don't spell out every last detail for the audience because to them we can't possibly figure out anything for ourselves. We're too dumb for that. #smdh
Well, as always I'm not sure if I'm qualified to vote in these things given how little of the current year's dramas I usually watch. However, from those I have seen here are my picks:
Best Romance Drama - It's Okay, That's Love
Best Couple - Jo In Sung & Gong Hyo Jin (It's Okay, That's Love)
Best OST - It's Okay, That's Love
Worst Drama - Temptation (this was easy!)
Best Actor - Jo In Sung (It's Okay, That's Love)
Best Bromance - The Three Musketeers
Best Sismance - Can We Love
