Thank you for the review. I understand your frustrations though I have not watched this drama & don't plan to. I recently completed a drama from which I arrived at the exact same sentiments. It's just too bad when they ruin an otherwise great drama with unnecessary, often nonsensical filling.
Spartacus had a story, but I agree the violence there was mainly gratuitous torture porn, probably an ode to viewers…
Haha no I didn't because I'm still dragging my foot about watching Shut Up Flower Boy Band. I'm just not into flower boys. I like grown, real men. haha But apparently this is a good drama according to a number of my friends and I did make a non-committal promise to have a look at it ...
What's your take? Thx for the link.

Oh, that's the only season I've yet to watch! I can't wait to see how it wrapped up! I kinda parked it just around the time I discovered dramaland & haven't made the time or effort to pick it back up. Same goes for Game of Thrones and a whole host of other Western series I was following at the time. In the grand scheme of things violence and sex don't bother me either, but I do prefer when they actually serve a purpose to the genre or the plot (like in Sweet Sex & Love or In The Realm of the Senses) rather than just thrown in there for shock value and or to lock in ratings. I'm sure people in their droves would have still watched Spartacus without all the gore & gratuitous sex because the story is so good and you get attached to the characters. Anyway, that's how we do in the West, I guess! haha
As for Lee Min Ki I can't remember having seen him in anything. I'll add those other titles to my list. I like dark twisty physiological fare, but I've yet to see one done properly and to my liking, save I Saw the Devil & Oldboy.
Spartacus had a story, but I agree the violence there was mainly gratuitous torture porn, probably an ode to viewers with sick twisted serial killer fantasies - that most won't ever act on (one hopes). All the sex scenes were the same. They didn't even try to hide that it was pure sexual objectification ... only 'good' thing is that it was of both sexes and not just the women. In general though I liked that show. I got invested in the stories of the slaves & the acting was superb most of the time. You can't tell me over 100 mins of HOT nekkid (except for a loincloth) men isn't a good thing? haha
I'll add this movie to my PWT list since I love gangster movies.
I've only seen him in Stars. I liked him so I'll check out some of his other roles if/when he does something that strikes my interest.
Thx for the article.
A drama I can't bring myself to watch. You guys know I'm a wuss when it comes to sad dramas. Too bad cuz it sounds amazing otherwise. I'm not a huge fan of SJS but I like him so I would have watched it if it were less depressing.
I watched all 5 dramas nominated, so here's my 2 cents... Each of us likes a genre more than others, has fav.…
Sexist and obsessed with appearance. No way older women (actresses) can thrive in such a society. Sometimes when I really let it get to me it pisses me off big time. I have never considered myself a feminist ... and honestly it's not a label I want to carry, but I've never been more preoccupied with women's rights until I got into Asian dramas.
Yup I agree about Jun Ji Hyun and I'm not 100% sold on her yet either. I do believe she's charismatic enough to pull off a variety of roles IF she gets offered decent projects that can showcase her versatility. And this is the biggest obstacle most actresses face and in particular in a hyper sexist environment like Asia ... the quality of roles ... or rather the lack thereof. It's a crying shame. Anyway, Lee Bo Young takes stiffness to a whole other level. I have no favourite Korean actress yet ... but I can tolerate watching most except those on my blacklist (see profile). Ha Ji Won, Kim Ha Neul, Park Shin Hye & Bo Young are at the top.
What's funny about Bo Young is that she always appear very relaxed and open in real life ... I have no idea why she can't bring the same quality to her performances.

ETA: I just remembered that I don't like chocolate, so just gimme the gin!
"I'm a woman in my 30's...."
I thought to myself, NO WAY!!! This has GOT to be a misprint. haha
A speedy recovery to all involved.
