Sexist and obsessed with appearance. No way older women (actresses) can thrive in such a society. Sometimes when I really let it get to me it pisses me off big time. I have never considered myself a feminist ... and honestly it's not a label I want to carry, but I've never been more preoccupied with women's rights until I got into Asian dramas.
Yup I agree about Jun Ji Hyun and I'm not 100% sold on her yet either. I do believe she's charismatic enough to pull off a variety of roles IF she gets offered decent projects that can showcase her versatility. And this is the biggest obstacle most actresses face and in particular in a hyper sexist environment like Asia ... the quality of roles ... or rather the lack thereof. It's a crying shame. Anyway, Lee Bo Young takes stiffness to a whole other level. I have no favourite Korean actress yet ... but I can tolerate watching most except those on my blacklist (see profile). Ha Ji Won, Kim Ha Neul, Park Shin Hye & Bo Young are at the top.
What's funny about Bo Young is that she always appear very relaxed and open in real life ... I have no idea why she can't bring the same quality to her performances.
I like him, but I think he belongs on the stage, not on the screen. His acting is so Shakespearean. I remember when I first saw him in Lie To Me I thought he was hot but boy he needed to tone down all the theatrical overacting. He wasn't much better in My Girlfriend is an Agent. And that mole on his nose! I don't know about anyone else but it's so distracting to me! lol

Oh Ghettoe, I love you! You said it brilliantly! I didn't watch I Hear Your Voice and I never will given my aversion to Lee Bo Ypung, Lee Jung Suk AND noona romances in general but I TRUST YOUR JUDGMENT! I believe everything you say about the writing and characters! Moreover, one thing I know right off the bat is that Lee Bo Young is better than most of her contemporaries, BUT the woman seriously need to take more acting classes related to movement, relaxation and breathing in the portrayal of fictional characters. She's ALWAYS so stiff and aloof in her portrayals that it's impossible for me to warm up and develop any sort of affection for her characters even when said characters are likeable enough. For this reason I've blacklisted her.
On the other hand Jun Ji Hyun totally charmed my socks off in Man From the Stars. I mean I didn't mind Kim Soo Hyun at all, but JJH portrayed such a brilliantly likeable, witty and charismatic woman that I just instantly fell in love with her. It's veeeerrry rare for me to like female actors upon my first viewing for their work, but with JJH it was love at first sight. I was totally girl crushing on her because she embodied the character so well. I don't know if it's because she was just playing herself or if she's just a brilliant actress. Whatever it is, she is to me 10x better than LBY could ever be and this is inspite of the fact that I've seen Lee in many things (movies & dramas) and Jun only in Man ... nevertheless given that I work with actors almost on a daily basis I only need to see them perform once in order to gauge their potential. Jun Ji Hyun is good and I look forward to more of her work.
As for Lee Jung Suk ... oh lord have mercy! Girl, I just love your commentary because it's like you read my mind every time and are able to express what I can't. Let me tell you, I felt the EXACT same way about Face Reader and LJS's role in it. I tolerated him for Lee Jung Jæ who convinced me that he's a masterful actor when I first saw him in The Housemaid. I seriously love that guy! Kang Ho ahjussi is one of the older Korean actors I respect but I have to admit that I'm not 100% into him yet. I need to see a couple more of his movies. But anyway you're so right this blasted kid is everywhere. Sigh. If it wasn't for him I might've given Doctor Stranger a look see but ugh! Nah. I know his fangirls are going to hate my guts for this but ... oh well!
Can't wait for this movie! The stills look amazing. Hot romance & SSH in uniform ... Yes, please, thank you!…
haha Outsider weren't you one of the naysayers? I don't live in Korea so I haven't seen it yet, but I can't wait for it to become available! It's the # 1 film at the Korean box office so it must be good for something more than p entering slot v. ;)
Calm down. It's not porn, it's a dramatic love story with a little sex in it. Stop getting so worked up. You don't have to watch it if it's not your cup of tea.
Usually they are really good with keeping the subs updated pretty much a day or so after it has aired, I wonder…
You're watching this? Surprised. I'll watch it too when it gets off the air, but I'm preparing myself for it to be sad because the writer is quite known for her (tragic) melodramas.
I usually hate 2nd leads in Asian dramas because they tend to be so poorly written, 9/10 times. I couldn't stand Lee Han Se in Smile, You. Talk about intrusive, like a pest. Same goes for Yoon Pil Joo in The Greatest Love. He just did not serve any real purpose whatsoever in the grand scheme of the plot & was so obviously just placed there for cheap conflict. Typical Hong Sisters. Ugh.
A drama automatically gets an extra point from me if they're no 2nds at all (or if that 2nd isn't really a 2nd, just another side character who we don't see that often).
Love the new MDL! Spoiler tag & edit button on the feeds, DÆBAK! This place is by far the only social media site I spend any amount of time on. Big up to everyone who makes this community possible, esp the hard work of Skye & J-IN. Only thing I miss, as you already know, is the old way of posting wall comments & the wall comments themselves.
Oguri is one of the few Asian actors that actually look older than his age so I'm not buying him in no school uniform. I like him though so I don't care.
Well I just finished watching him in The Princess' Man & I'm amazed at how well he played in this drama. It's the first time I've seen him in anything. I always hear people gushing about what a great actor he is, but I boiled it down to overzealous fangirlism (as it usually is in most cases). Now that I've seen him in action for myself I can agree he has some talent. He really made me invest in his character & root for him from beginning to end. I hope I'll be just as impressed with his other performances.
I'm saddened by the scandal he's caught in. I can not see why he would need to assault anyone for sexual favours. Women would probably line up & pay HIM to sleep with them. He's handsome with a really incredible smile, WHY would he, even in a drunken stupor, see sexual assault as a viable option? I sincerely hope whatever happened between him & that woman wasn't rape in anyway. But we'll never know. While I hope he wouldn't stoop that low, I'm also hesitant to dismiss the young woman's claims. Working in show business myself I witness first hand the corrupting nature of fame & how it inflates its subjects with deep feelings of entitlement & invincibility. So only the almighty God knows what happened & whoever is the guilty party will certainly get their karma.

No worries, more sexy oppa for us right? lol
