So apparently this is based on a manga & the live action version went far to emulate the over the top, cringey…
So right up until the last 1 minute or so of the drama, both leads were completely besotted with each other & constantly pledging their unwavering love. It was a sweet, but passionate romance that was consistent throughout the entire drama. But then all of a sudden 1 - 2 mins before the credits roll, the tone shifted to something more ominous. In the final scene the FL has a very worried expression on her face & her inner monologue tells us that she feels "burdened" by the ML's love. Really? Just minutes prior, she couldn't get enough of him telling her he loved her over and over and over and over again as they made passionate love. He too gets a sudden personality transplant, giving off brutal vibes that make you worry that he could get violent towards her. I mean, it would have been fine, if we'd been given any inkling of an idea that this was who they were earlier. But no, literally minutes before the end, a complete tonal shift. I think I got whiplash because I was like ... huh? Where the heck did that come from? I felt like the writer was taking the piss out of her audience. No lie.
So apparently this is based on a manga & the live action version went far to emulate the over the top, cringey actions that you see in manga comics & anime. The acting was sooo exaggerated & cartoonish; the lead and his supposed henchmen looked like a band of flower boys cosplaying as yakuza. The ML triggered my gaydar. I couldn't take him seriously, much less as a badass yakuza boss because he was just too effeminate for the role.
I loved the fact that the show got straight to point of them falling in love fast & having a hot romance (nothing wrong with slow burn romances but too much of a good thing is overkill & that's exactly what tends to happen when EVERY SINGLE romance drama is a slow burn one). There's ample amount of realistic kissing, touching & love making in so far as you can go in Jdrama. That's not the problem. The problem is the poor acting & the choice of actors, specifically the ML, that didn't match what the role called for. The FL was only marginally better. She wasn't some innocent, shrinking violet, but she was the kind of wide-eyed, hesitant heroine that can be cute in the right context. Here, though, she bordered on being annoying. That's probably due to the imagination of the writer who created her, the same writer who gave us Coffee & Vanilla, another drama (and FL) I was totally underwhelmed by.
I thought the ending was rather disingenuous too. It's not that it was bad, per se. I actually think it was rather fitting given the nature of their relationship, but it kind of came out of nowhere. A complete tonal shift literally minutes before the credits rolled & it just seemed sloppy, sloppy, SLOPPY. I don't think this writer's work & me get along. I'm not going to watch anything more from her. 5/10
FL definitely going to hook up with 2ML despite being in a relationship with ML. FL is super comfortable with…
I notice this a lot in Jdramas. The FLs always have a backup guy who they're overly friendly with even though they're supposedly in a committed relationship with the ML. It's so annoying. I was interested in watching this drama, but your comment has definitely put me off it.
So Japanese people can and do kiss. Haha. Like for real, real. No stiff, deer in highlights BS. Too bad they never show real kissing like this in dramas, except maybe those cheesy dramas where the only focus is the new romance between the leads. Seems like in Japan, that's the only time people are passionate about each other in a romantic relationship, when they just met & are in their honeymoon phase. But anyone's who's ever been in a relationship knows that intimacy & sex tend to get better with time (at least for couples who put effort into their relationships). Anyway, this isn't even the best of the KISS series that I've seen. I watched a KISS series a few years ago where the scenarios & kisses were even better. Some of the kisses in Dekiai Cinderella were pretty enthusiastic, but there were some fake kissing too, with lips pursed and only lip touching. I did like the Classmate kiss (Story 1), Cohabiting kiss (Story 5), Childhood Friend kiss (Story 9) & Singer & Fan kiss (Story 10) though.
Finished this but never found out why are people in love with Gwi Nam bro what the hell he's such a d*ck head.
Lol, I loved hating on Gwi Nam. Such a nasty character, but I liked watching him create havoc for our leads & getting his ass beat. haha I did empathize with Eun-ji, though, esp that scene when she came across all the people who had bullied her as zombies. I was glad that she got retribution, but felt a twinge of sadness on her behalf because she allowed hatred to consume her.
Good action & suspence. Great pacing, was never bored. Likeable protags. Needed more romance, but this being a Korean drama with a school setting, I knew whatever romance we got, if we got any (we didn't ... not really), it would be tame as F. Some nonsensical sequences of people standing around looking shocked, as if waiting for the zombies to attack. Others putting their own & other people's lives at risk because of foolishness! Once somebody turns, they not your people anymore. Get the F up & run! Yeah, little frustrations like that. Frustrated too with the cliffhanger ending, esp when S2 is nowhere in sight!!! Still, overall, not perfect, but pretty darn good. This is kinda what Sweet Home *should* have been in terms of pacing, character development and plot!
Just finished watching this. I was waiting for Cheong San to appear as a hybrid zombie/human at the end behind…
I think Choeng San is alive just based on Su Hyeok's facial expression at the end. He had a look of wtf, shock & disbelief on his face, but also happiness. He even smiled, just a bit. Which makes me think that whatever he was looking at, made him question his own eyes, but at the same made him happy/grateful/elated, and that could only be his best buddy, Cheong Sana. That's my theory at least. How many times did Gwi Nam fell out high story windows, got impaled etc, but he still didn't die? That's why I think Choeng San may not be dead. I hope so because I was so sad when he was bit. He was such a lovable character.
The value of this film will be lost on MDL audiences, hence the abominable rating. Smdh. This is arthouse film with a capital A. Mediative, calm, hypnotizing ... if you pay attention, the film asks you what is the meaning of life? How have you lived life your life? It's a spiritual journey that's beautiful, brilliant, immersive & totally deserving of the Palme D'Or. This is truly not for the average moviegoer (so don't bother watching, if you see yourself as such; you won't enjoy yourself, you'll be bored & confused). It's for lovers of film as an art form. I absolutely loved it & rewatch it every few years. I've met the director, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, several times. Fascinating guy!
when she's seeing that chef guy nd when he asks to be just frnds nd she said After some time when I no longer…
Man, I completely agree with you. It tainted their romance for me too because after she said that, I couldn't watch them together without questioning her motives for being with him. I think the guy really loved her and deserved to be loved back in equal measure. Esp when he's an orphan (I've always had a special place in my heart for orphans who lost their parents at a young age). I think that's why I loved the SML too. His life story was so sad, of being abandoned & being raised in an orphanage until the Kang family adopted him.
Anyway, I just think it's totally unacceptable that Tæ Moo has to play second fiddle in her heart to some guy who didn't even notice her before she got with the rich guy (and all while he was in a relationship with another woman). Sure, in reality I guess crushing on someone for 7 years will take time to get over, but I dunno ... they didn't have to inform us of it.
I took some solace in the fact that she did come across very clinical & formal to him in that last scene they had. As if to indicate that sure, some lingering feelings may still be there, but it's just a natural part of the healing process. Regardless of its existence, she's totally committed to the ML. It doesn't work completely though ... which is why is it sucks balls that they made her reveal that.
For me this was a decent romcom, if only for the fact that it had some good comedic sequences & felt modern, in with the times, without losing its Korean identity. It was full of all the usual silly Kdrama cliches (chæbol CEO falls for cheerful poor girl or rich girl falls for poor guy etc), but the dynamic between the couples wasn't completely sterile & juvenile ... even though they could have been a lot steamier at the same time.
One thing I've always disliked in Kdramas was the lack of a realistic portrayal of intimate romantic relationships. Having young, red blooded males (who are not gay) talking about they have no interest in women & sex ... is such complete BS. And having couples who supposedly are sooooooo in love, but who barely kiss or make love when it's natural to do so, is total nonsense. Koreans may be more conservative about relationships, but they still engage in normal couple behaviour. I'm glad that Kdramas are now venturing to show this dynamic without being too graphic & over the top like in western shows (my wish is not for Korean dramas to be westernized, just be more realistic in showing romantic relationships). I don't want to see grown adults always acting scandalized by sex & intimacy.
So while the intimate moments of the couples in this drama didn't always look natural or happen at the most natural time, there were some decent scenes, so I'm not gonna complain too much. 7-/10
I don’t understand Why this is so popular 😅 main couple has not much chemistry and the FL doesn’t look…
I was also a bit surprised when she said she didn't remember the encounter at all. In order to have complete memory loss, she would have had to be black out drunk. She didn't appear black out drunk after they left the restaurant, just a little over tipsy? And even if she was much more than tipsy, as in very, very drunk ... she still wouldn't have complete memory loss, I don't think. Seemed odd that she would've lost all memory under the circumstances. Furthermore, someone who is so drunk to have lost all memory the next day, would not have been in a position to confess their feelings & initiate their first kiss so coherently as she did.
Also the way Sung Hoon's character is presented, as this upright kind of guy, I don't think he'd be the kind of person to take advantage in such a situation. When the scene of them getting it on was shown, she was clearly a very willing & active participant. So to me it came across as more of an inconsistency in the writing, rather than SH being a "rapist". The drunken one night stand with the (albeit selective) memory loss is a common cliche in k-dramas. I've seen it several times, but it's the first time the character claims to have no memory of the encounter at all. It was just sloppy writing all around with that scene, even though I understood that the drama tried to shed light on the plight of young women in South Korea, ie. with that spycam creep. If the writer was trying to portray that some men will take advantage when a woman is drunk, they chose the wrong man for the job & just totally the wrong scenario ... because YS to me did not appear to have been taken advantage of in the context given.
They were & remained my favourite couple in the drama, although I thought the actor who played SH was kind of stiff & expressionless. He was hella cute though, so he was forgiven! lol. Their chemistry was really good, but fizzled out a bit after they officially became a couple, which was rather disappointing.
I know what's wrong w sec kim is on 6th, it's okay to not be okay is on 5th... strong girl nam boo song (Sorry…
OMG, seriously???? MDL ratings are nonsense most of the time, though!!! I really hope whoever is writing these articles don't put too much stock into MDL content! :/
Honestly I didn't really like the second couple after they got together especially young Seo unlike main ones
I agree! I actually liked their chemistry a lot better than the leads, although SML acting was a little stiff. But after they got together, their romance lost all its charm. Their sweet scenes were flat and boring, totally lacking in all that good chem they had previously. And yeah, Young Seo came across as kind of a spoilt brat who Sung Hoon apparently always has to capitualate & apologize to (for no reason). I didn't like how the dynamic of their relationship developed. It kinda made me feel like they're going to have a very acrimonious divorce later on down the line.
when she's seeing that chef guy nd when he asks to be just frnds nd she said After some time when I no longer…
Yup, I caught that! And I too was like WTF??? Did I read that right? LOL, I had to watch the scene again because I was sure I had misread the subs. I even tried to ignore the subs & listen to the dialogue myself because I do understand some Korean ... sounded like the subs were pretty accurate. That totally threw me off because I thought she was over that guy (when she realized & called him out for being a jerk to his GF) & was now totally in love with the President. When you think about it, though, at that time when she said that, her relationship with the President was still in the early stages, probably just a few months. So I guess that wouldn't have been a long enough time to have gotten over a 7 yr crush? Hopefully, after the year of separation, those feelings would have completely subsided & she's really not just being with President because he's rich.
It's irrelevant reward no one knows and the ones u know about are mostly paid by studios in some way.
Raindance has been around for years, at least 20 I'd say. It was about 4 - 5 yrs old back when I went to film school in London over 10 years ago. In film circles it's fairly well known, even if it doesn't carry the same prestige as other festivals (TIFF, Venice, Tribeca etc). Indeed most festivals are not prestigous and or well known outside of film circles & it's not necessary to because festivals are mostly for film professionals to recognize & acknowledge talent. The general public coming to the festivals and viewing the films are of course important too, but not the MOST important. For most up and coming filmmakers, any recognition is good recognition and can be the difference between getting your projects funded or not, or getting hired if you're an actor. So even though LSK is gone, the filmmakers will still benefit from this win because any recognition on the CV of a filmmaker or actor is postive for his/her career.
The word "remembered" is not used in this context. The word you're looking for is "reminded".
... and even needs to be "reminded" that she's a woman ...

Not sure these DILFs will want to F a MILF, but yeah, I have the same wish! ;) 🤣🤣🤣
