Basically the crown prince is dismissed from his position and then the female lead goes to visit him on the order of the Emperor who plans to make other arrangements for him, however she gives him a hairpin which he uses to commit suicide with because she knows that he has no choice. She then goes and asks the Emperor to delay her execution for a few months until she gives birth to their child which he grants. So it's pretty depressing.
