It doesn't say in the book but apparently in the drama when he uses his powers it becomes like a third eye and releases his cultivation. Also, it disappears after that fight with Jiang Wu near the end and he goes into that coma. Don't know why he's the only one who has it though. Also there are some theories floating around the internet that he loses that spot when he falls in love/he gains mortal feelings (like in the ice cavern once with Shi Qi and once when he's chanting in front of Zhao Yao's body) but they could just be bloopers as mentioned above

I am subbing mostly the cut version but if there's an important/long scene that's missing in the cut version, I will add it as a special scene on my website (productive procrastination), which I will do for the ep 18/19 scene. It's because it's a little more difficult to find and download the uncut version
