But the writer doesn't convey this in the drama. And he must've been on drugs to come up with the creepy Tan'er ending :(

Written well he could've been a conflicted villain. But in the end it felt ooc like they needed a npc villain to kill 3 demons and have a big fight at the end. There are also inconsistencies, like the power levels. The 3 ancient demons were supposed to be it, but human HY could seal all 3 and a demonised BZ could kill them. But XY didn't unsealed them herself but it was Hei Wu who does. If I've missed something, let me know as that didn't make sense to me. It felt like a lot things were rushed in the end part.

The thinking was everyone is flawed, including the mainleads. He represented obsession and obsession for the yuli spring later, it was done really badly by writer lol. He couldn't protect Tan'er, he could fulfil his promise to Lu Tong with Pian Pian. It gets complicated by the sacrifices she made for him, descending them lower and lower. After his betrayal, he finds solace with her. As for emperor, there was no choice otherwise it was execution. The writer didn't execute it well, and he turned him into a tool character in the end wasting his acting... Just enjoy the visuals :(

Lol, I'm not gonna try make sense of this mess. I'm already pissed with what the writer did to BZ. Basically he was a tool character written badly to create antagonism for the end, do the immoral parts, kill the demons, get the shards and give them to the mains. Him being dead is better than living on with that creepy weird Pian Pian, Tan'er story.
