I LOVE this so far! But I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it to the end. I'm always hesitant to watch long Chinese dramas…
I am with you. I haven't watched a 50 episode drama in four years. Even the 40 episode drama can drag. The 30 episode drama is good, but the director will still find the time to drag out the plot.
Mother Fu is the most congenial mother I have seen in any costume C-drama. She is kind, even-tempered and considerate. She hasn't thrown any tantrums or belittled the daughter-in-law.

16 eps in and still goingBut story wise it's kinda weakThey focus too much on support characters. The plot is…
If they added ten episodes, they would drag out the Zhuang dysfunctional family storyline. The Pei insurrection plan or hidden agenda has only been theorized, as of episode 24. It appears to be all in the intellectual scholar Minister Zhuang's brain. LOL
I like this user’s take on the drama. There is indeed no righteous characters in the drama (even the baby girl…
Well said. I starting thinking if there were any righteous characters. I would have to volunteer Hanyan's maid and Fu's assistants, the Mu brothers. They are loyal to their master.
Han Yan is on a death mission. She probably felt nothing matters but vengeance. After all, she's all alone and…
The character of Ling Zhi is written as an adult in a little child's body. I thought she is five years' old. She talks like a twenty years' old. Realistically, a five years' old could not have the intuition, vocabulary, instinct, maturity level that Ling Zki demonstrates, but the writer is using her as the anchor or conscience for Hanyan. The little actress is out-acting all the adult actors on the payroll.
I was searching for the dog who acted in Si Jin and Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and discovered he made a movie, Hachiko. It is a remake of the Japanese movie that I watched several years ago. I cried watching that movie.
Botang was a warrior, from puppy to end of life. He knew that Professor Chen was his one true love and father. He waited every night for his return from work. That loyalty lived beyond his father's death. For ten years, Botang, now a stray dog, searched far and wide, and waited every night at the train station for his master's return, until his heart stopped beating one day. I am sad that Batong was homeless for ten years. He survived so long, growing old and emaciated. In the end his father returned, and took the puppy Botang with him on the tram to Heaven. The ending is beautiful but sad. I cried at the end of the movie.
The production company made a dog movie that showed compassion, empathy, loyalty and endurance. The many dogs that portrayed Botang, from puppy to adult dog, ultimately stole the show.
Yeah, I noticed the Faithful reference character for character. Do you know what the other story she mentioned…
The drama, Jin Zhi, has no castlist except for screenwriter Cao Xiao Tian. I suspected it might be one of his writing projects, and checked his MDL credits. It might be in the development stage.
MDL synopsis: Chen Que Er, mistaken for the Changying Princess Zhao Jin Zhi, enters Rongguo Mansion and secretly builds a powerful identity in Tokyo. She joins forces with Xianning Prince Sun Ru Yang, and together they establish the Xianyi Society, set trends with Chinese fashion, and run the Wan Guo Hui restaurant, all while navigating the city's political and social circles.
As they rise in power, they become entangled in court disputes. Ultimately, they expose the truth, rescuing slaves from the ruthless Wang Ji Xun, and emerge stronger from the crises they face together.
Did anyone catch the reference in episode 23 to Faithful? Screenwriter Cao Xiao Tian wrote the screenplays for The Glory and Faithful. Zhuang Hanyan mentioned the story of The Faithful, written by Li Bo Jian, about Meng Wan who avenged her close friend Lin Ru Lan, to the young noble ladies having afternoon tea.
The novelist of The Glory is Qian Shan Cha Ke, and the novelist of Faithful is Li Bo Jian. I wonder why Cao wrote this line into the script. I don't see a connection, except for the screenwriter and Tencent Video.
I would also like to add, how loosely tied up the plot looks right now. The audience was introduced to the ML's…
I think they spent too much time in the House of Zhuang, kicking Mother too long, Yushan behaving like a entitled princess, and Shi Yang whispering all the time.
