Since season 1 was such a hit back in 2022, the production company could have started preplanning season 2 immediately, so they would be ready to execute season 2 production within two years. I know the preproduction process takes time; set design, costume design, story and script creation, budget and hiring the talent and crew.
They didn't do that awkward time jumpt that writers like to do in some dramas. Even though some time has elapsed, they just dropped in the scenes seamlessly.

The ending with Emperor and Yan Ze, and Empress and Noble Consort is vintage Shakespearean tragedy. 🤣🤣🤣 An excellent drama that kept me intrigued up to the final scene. It didn't even feel like 38 episodes. Acting, directing, editing, costuming, set design and most of the music were well done. They could have dialed back the BGM. Some of the music did not fit the mood of the scene, and sounded like the Kdrama BGM.
