Definitely one of the best dramas I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of dramas since a child. This drama has a very captivating storyline, great CGI, beautiful cinematography, costumes, OST and awesome side characters. This was hands down the best drama of 2020 for me and I will surely rewatch this drama quite often because that is how much I enjoyed this show. I was captivated since episode 1. :) I even went on to read the novel although I still haven't finished all parts yet.
Most of the cast did a wonderful job but I would like to give an applause to Cheng Yi for his phenomenal performance as Yu Si Feng. Not only was his character one of the best male leads I've ever seen but also his emotional scenes were very realistic and as a viewer I could totally feel the character's pain through the screen. Cheng Yi is certainly a very talented actor. I became Cheng Yi's fan after this drama and will definitely follow his upcoming works.
Besides Yu Si Feng's character I also loved the supporting characters like Wu Zhi Qi, Zi Hu (Purple Fox) and Teng She a lot. Actually Brother Liu and Ting Nu were also super nice and kind characters too because they were always very supportive of the main leads. I love it when the characters are so supportive and good friends of the main leads from the beginning until the end without betraying them.
I loved this drama so much that I had to sign up on MDL just to give a review for L&R. Normally I don't participate in any discussions (just a silent reader) or write reviews but I had to make an exception this time. And since I'm at it I should give a review for my other favorite drama too :D
Question to those who read the novel. How and when Sifeng did reveal his identity in the novel?I like the scene…
This part where he revealed his identity in ep 37 was quite similar in the novel with a few changes here and there but they managed to keep the major events pretty faithful to the book. I was amazed that they even kept some of the original dialogues of the characters from words to words. I apologize in advance for a very lengthy text ahead :D
Basically Li Ze Palace's Master and the disciples showed their true form as the Golden Winged Birds during that big battle between the sects while Yu Si Feng tried his best to prevent his Master from killing the innocent people. Xuan Ji arrived at the scene a bit later and unlike in the drama Teng She and Liu Yi Huan were also present. Xuan Ji witnessed that everyone from the Li Ze Palace were demons so in her mind she was hoping for Si Feng to tell her something but at the same time she also didn't want him to say anything because she was fearing for the worst. The next part is pretty similar to the drama. Si Feng said: "Xuan Ji, I'm sorry. I won't let them continue killing anymore people" and gave out that faint smile, eyes filled with pain and sorrow while looking at her gently before revealing his true form. Then he proceeded to reveal his beautiful golden wings hahaha I like how the author described his transformation scene so I thought the drama team did a very good job in portraying that part.
Things were very chaotic so Xuan Ji gave an order to Teng She and asked him to kill all the demons there but spare the mortals and Si Feng. Fast forward, Si Feng's Lover's Curse got triggered due to the heartbreak and disappointment so he was in great pain. Because of this Li Ze Palace's Master stopped the battle and immediately took Si Feng away. *Reading Si Feng's inner thoughts was rather painful though. Poor boy... he was in so much pain both emotionally and physically* The following part and dialogue is quite similar to the drama, as in the Palace Lord told him to forget about Xuan Ji etc. The difference was that it was only during this part that Si Feng learned about their father-son relationship.
Unlike in the drama, while Xuan Ji was indeed in shock after learning that Si Feng was a demon but she didn't ask him to explain things nor did she ask him why he lied to her. Her reaction was far better in the book.
Sorry, my summary is not that good ^^ The purpose is to give you guys a general idea how things went in the novel when Si Feng revealed his identity. Have a great day everyone!
