Seems like mydramalist hates sequels in general, and claims it's "Americanization" as if America is the only place…
I just think that if people really hated them that much, studios wouldn't be making more of them so they are definitely loved. The entertainment industry is a big supply and demand industry after all.
Insulting people over a fictional tv show, yikes. Also one of the reasons I’m not too fond of Squid Game getting a sequel. Its wide appeal unfortunately bought in a lot of unsavory folks into the world of dramas.
The writer took 12 years writing the 1st season whereas now it’s only 2 years (?) he’s gonna spend writing the 2nd one. Doesn’t really assure me of its quality but maybe the 2nd season will have a larger team of experienced writers and turn out even better.

By endless seasons I think they mean anything more than 3 seasons. The most Asian drama sequels have gone is 3 so I think people are fine with that and nothing more. Even some 3rd sequels get a lot of hate. Overall it seems to me, people like 2nd seasons only if the story calls for it, it has the same cast, and/or if it’s a solid romcom with MLs who have great chemistry.

That’s a weird over generalization. People like sequels here more than they hate them. As Brownie mentioned, a lot of people has been asking for sequels of their fave dramas these days hence why more dramas have started getting them. There would be no supply without demand. The Arthdal Chronicles sequel was highly anticipated, for example. Even I, someone who think Korean drama has been getting Americanized, do not mind sequels, as long as the story calls for it.
Squid Game had a solid story that only needed one season. The ending was just Netflix’s attempt at drawing it out to make more money and most viewers, especially veteran watchers know it. A sequel is just not needed in this case.
ooof I wonder how the "superficial" Koreans are receiving this drama if the "kind and understanding" international audience is actively hating on the ML's looks and age? Some of yall have no right to go on about strict Korean beauty standards and Asian countries being superficial when this is how you are.
Don't go crying about how he looked better before if the ML gets plastic surgery or kills himself. There's a difference between expressing your opinion respectfully and outright bullying someone based on their looks and age. Is it really that important for you to complain about a random web toon getting adjusted for an adaption anyway? Like over being kind and respectful? Over not belittling someone’s looks and age like a petulant child?
Newsflash, old people do meet and fall in love. They too act childish and can have passionate romances in life. Let’s not even talk about how the ML is only 43 and is getting shat on for being old lol.
Not people getting so butthurt about preference 💀 not everyone has to share your love for old men , some just…
lol its just not needed to make 10+ comments on the same topic though? there's free speech and then there's unnecessary hurtful words. if you dont have anything nice to say, or if hundreds others have already said it, then just dont say it. most are just straight up bullying the ML and making fun of his looks.
AMA definitely isn't light hearted drama. It's more a military drama and romance is not on the main spot. Patriotism…
This is late but not you comparing this to Mulan 💀
Mulan didn’t go through months of grueling training, suffer to get accepted by misogynist males, and single-handedly take down an entire army just to be compared to whatever sorry excuse for a FL this drama had. She was a badass who proved girls could be just as good as guys and you’re comparing her to miss oh I’ll just let the ML grab me anytime he wants and tell me where to sleep? The movie had more tension, drama, angst, and character development than this whole drama. I’m not even that big of a fan of Mulan yet I’m low key offended you called this a “Mulan type of drama” like where? The genderbending?
This is more close to You’re beautiful/Hana Kimi/She’s the Man in that area. It’s marketed towards teens with a good looking cast and multiple romances that overshadow the serious aspects of its time period. It’s like a CW, discount forever 21 version of Mulan. That’s the only comparison with Mulan I’ll allow this drama to have.
I mean there’s a whole scene when the male lead literally just has a breakdown over her moving to another room like wtf? They literally have a fight over which room she’ll be in. Lmao and you’re comparing this to Mulan? There’s also a scene where the ML whips out a whole piano and serenades her with a bunch of roses and candles thrown about while she watches from the window. IN A FCKING MILITARY ACADEMY DUIRNG A WAR IN REPUBLICAN ERA CHINA. WTF? How is that even allowed? That would never happen. You can’t tell me this isn’t just some self insert wish fulfillment fanfic the writer wrote after watching that scene. To compare it to Mulan?
Dishonor on you. Dishonor on your cow. Dishonor on your whole family.
honestly my friend and I tried watching it and we dropped it after like 4-5 eps bc we were kinda disappointed…
Thank you! I felt the same. She’s seriously bland and does nothing significant. I guess it could’ve worked if this was set in modern day and had her pretending to be a boy to go into an all boys high school or join a boy band (ie. You’re Beautiful). But it’s not. They purposely set it in the Republican era during a war. That sets the stakes super high and there should be some tension since logically if she’s found out to be a girl in this time period, she could receive severe punishment or even face death. But the way they handle it in this drama is so half assed. She just freely goes around switching between her two identities and much of the time is spent on the romance between her and the ML which is whole another topic I won’t get into today. Like you could be put to death if you get find out and there’s a war happening but they’re like haggling over which room she should sleep in lol.

“AMA definitely isn't light hearted drama. It's more a military drama and romance is not on the main spot. Patriotism is always number 1 in every war/military/police C drama. I have to say, in the story, only FL is a teenager (19yo), almost everyone else are few years older. (When it comes to war, even 14yo kids go to the front...and here they are students, adults, of course that some situations must be serious, even though their personalities are childish).”
It is definitely a very childish idol drama. Compare this to other Republican era dramas like Siege in Fog and Battle of Changsha. You can see the difference. Just because it’s set in a war ridden era, doesn’t make it deep or heavy. “From the beginning, I didn't see 2ML as a part of the love triangle..but they were cute together . I find it funny when you said 'Bai Lu's male disguise just looks awkward af'😂 Why? Well, I didn't find any other drama where girl is so good looking as a boy.”
Bromance, a Taiwanese drama, has a great disguise. The female lead is actually really good looking as both a guy and a girl. She acts and looks like a guy and can fight well. Other dramas not having a girl who is good looking as a guy does not excuse this drama’s failure. And it’s not really the point I wa making. Her disguise looks awkward as in its very obvious she’s a girl. It wouldn’t really matter to me if this was set in modern times and she was trying to get into a boy band, but to set such a badly executed gender bending concept in the Republican era, in a military academy, along the front lines of a war is just laughable imo. “So, for me , this is one of the best C drama. Deserves more than a 10. Everyone's acting was on the highest level. Story is good. In life, not everything is pink. You can be childish , but you have to know when you need to be serious. Mulan type of the dramas are my thing. So, I'm really sorry , you didn't like it or didn't understand the real picture of the drama.”
And okay? Good for you. For me this is heavily overrated. Lol people can’t have opinions now huh? Me not liking it doesn’t mean I didn’t get the “real picture of the drama.” It’s not that deep lol. I just have a different opinion than you. Of course not everything is pink and I get that. I have no problem against heavy angsty plots. Action, melodrama and horror are my favorite genres. Im just saying this drama tries to be deep and heavy but really fails at it because everyone is so childish. Again, see Seige in Fog and Battle of Changsha. Im guessing the people praising this haven’t been exposed to legit Republican dramas and see this as the coolest thing they’ve ever seen. Please watch the above dramas and compare.
She's a really talented actress. Her role in Because This Is My First Life was great, not to mention how different she was in I Picked Up A Star on the Road. Wish she got more leading roles. She's kinda like Kim Seulgi, makes even a crappy character good but severely underutilized.
It’s fine, I just find it disrespectful to insult people when you don’t get what you want. If one’s knee jerk reaction to seeing a different cast than they expected is to call them bad actors then maybe they’re not mature enough to be watching dramas in the first place.
I kinda liked the ending. Made sense in my opinion since he did give away her script without her permission and caused the fall that transported her in the first place. He and the prince in the novel are two different people anyway. Wish they do a second season explaining a bit more though bc he did spend all those times working together taking care of her.
the problem is not talent of the cast, but their ages. ML is 20 years older then he should be
They’re gonna adjust the story to fit the actors. A business Proposal had a completely different vibe from its WEBTOON and became a hit. It’s going to be 19+ also so you can already see they’ve made a lot of changes.

You will grow old someday too. Have some empathy.
Calling someone old and ugly isn't really nice either.
