Lol to the people saying “this is too soap opera-y for me,” like yes, no shit Sherlock, it’s a makjang/melo (look at the tags). Did you not understand that from the dramatic ass intro or during one of the very first scenes where a man literally feeds his subordinates to dogs?
Lol japan love to do this so much like for example Legal high 2012 poster looks like some intense romance drama…
Oh it’s just a joke I like to make bc my left eyes are bigger than my right and it’s really noticeable in pics. My mom has similar eyes so I guess I inherited it.
I wish Japan would make proper mature, dark dramas with an angsty love triangle. Nothing wrong with this one, just that the poster/title is really misleading.
By unsavory, I mean edgy teens who think “your mama” and “ok boomer” are valid insults in the year 2022. They’re attracted by the whole ‘frick the rich, the system is corrupt’ simplicity of Squid Game, as well as it’s gore. Obviously that’s not all there is to the show but that’s how they see it as. Kinda like im14andthisisdeep. I’m not saying all new drama watchers are like this (some are cringy but harmless).
While I do think the success of Squid Game has shown other countries can also make entertaining content, I don’t think it’s breaking any new grounds (I mean China, Japan, Korea all have internal ally recognized film industries with cult following). It has kind of set off this weird trend of foreign stuff on Netflix only being valid/worthy if they have zombie or gore of some kind (at least in America) imo. Like the success of Squid Game isn’t drawing people to watch My Love From the Stars. Netflix knows this hence why they keep their foreign catalog fully stocked with action and sci if thrillers.
Seems like mydramalist hates sequels in general, and claims it's "Americanization" as if America is the only place…
Oh I see, I see. It is really funny but I think it just varies by each drama. If the majority feels a drama needs a 2nd season, you'll see more comments wanting sequels for that specific drama. If the majority feels a drama doesn't need one, you'll see more comments against it. Obviously whether a drama deserves a sequel is objective but the majority opinion is often times the loudest.

I mean if you're going all the way back to when the show just came out, of course it didn't have a lot of supporters. It had not become a hit yet and ppl didn't know its ending. Now if you go to the Squid Game 2 page, a lot of people are showing their support.

Even on the Squid Game page, most of it is people saying "yay! can't wait" and/or hoping for the hot cop to be the main character. Sure there are few who are critical but that's expected of any drama. Seems to me like you're nitpicking or maybe negative opinions jump out more to you since you like the show idk.
I'm on your side but let's be real... 12 years is a stupid long amount of time. He probably treated it as a side…
I thought he was like super poor or something? Seems like he really worked on it out of desperation and didn't have the privilege to work on a side project. But I agree, they probably exaggerated it so the whole 12 years and 12 days thing sounds more poetic. Doesn't sound really reassuring that the 1st one took more time though.

My advice is don't care so much about other people's opinions. If you think it desperately needs a sequel, good for you. I think it doesn't and the comment by Netflix's CEO about expanding the series into a "Squid Game universe" scares me as one more perfectly fine piece of media gets turned into another money grabbing franchise. Clearly more people are anticipating it hence why it is even getting a sequel.
