I thought Wan Peng was one of the current popular actress. Surprised to see her take up a supporting role in this…
Only watch if you like crime cdrama, in particular the topic of cover ups and police corruption. It's not the best of that genre ("The Knockout" and "In The Name of The People" are the best), but it's still very good nonetheless if you like this specific genre. The scope of this is much narrower and feels less epic due to low episode count.
Wan Peng doesn't have a lot of screentime either, I think many people watch just for her and is disappointed because they don't like the genre.
Sheng Liya worked for Chuansheng for 13 years already, I guess she started working when she was a teen lmao. Literally the perfect waifu; competent, loyal and obedient, but unfortunately for her, the wrong man bought her.
I thought he's guaranteed to be the good guy ML but by ep 6 he feels shady too.
Yeah this drama is so interesting. Obviously the ending for these type of drama is predictable (the government will win, leads will choose/prioritize loyalty to the party over everything else like family/friends) but the journey of them cracking down corrupt government officials and the gangster-like boss is always interesting. There's a lot of crime cdramas but this subset of it where they're fighting government corruption is quite rare.
Ending was so predictable…….. Mainland will do everything to show that the law and the govt. trumps everything…..…
Mainland? I grew up reading western fairy tales, comics, cartoons, watch movies/dramas and the good guys protagonists always win there also, lmao. Why didn't Palpatine, Sauron, or Voldemort win? They all really should've won realistically speaking instead of all the uncool goody two shoes.
Wan Peng's character here is just so cool and her acting is just so good. She should really play in more realistic dramas instead of doing the same "bright FL" role in idol dramas over and over again.
It is typical 🙄 a lot of those do. Just the Donhua or the cdrama is modified so it isn't so 😅
That's because the original story (novel) target demographic is males but drama adaptation needs to cater to females since most drama watchers are females. Well, if there's season 2 he will get the FL eventually but yeah it's maxed to 1 love interest, all the other women will have their story modified even if they still like the ML, the ML would pay them no mind.
There's a lot of those type of main characters in manga/manhua/manhua webtoons and novels but it won't get adapted to TV because most are unsuitable. Selfish/cunning/ruthless/machiavellian/"the end justify the means" characters are not allowed to win since they give bad example so we get all these pathetic goody 2 shoes naive mains that unrealistically win in the end due to plot armor.
I think this drama proves more than anything that the audience wants a calm and smart main character more than…
Too bad we're like the minority, most people here love all those angst crying misunderstanding drama cheeses full of annoying characters like that garbage till the end of the moon.
You must be high this show was far from the best💀 at most it was sub par
People here put way too much importance in casts and cgs and production values, but all of those are just budget difference. What's the point of rating if you're just gonna rate $$$ might as well just look at the project budget amount instead of looking at the ratings. Even the review system on this site is silly, it literally put story same weight as acting/cast, music, rewatch value?? Nevermind the fact that most people won't rewatch most things they watch ever in their life because there is already not enough time to watch new titles.
For me plot/story is 99% weightage of how I rate a drama, everything else is just part of the 1%.
The show kept trying to make the viewers think that King Lingwu and Qin Yuanhong are the villain throughout the show (with all the secretive whispering they're doing to each other that are never revealed), but turns out they aren't and the real traitor is only revealed at the end without him showing signs of being traitor (unless you read the novel and such in which you already know who's the bad guy is).
I just watched the first episode and am blown away by how beautifully done this drama is. The rating is so deceptive!…
This site's rating is kinda useless. Anyway this has 7.3 on douban which is not low at all, it's higher there than many of the overrated xianxias and cliche romances on this site.
