I agree with everything you have said up to the point of stabbing ML, even if someone is clinically proven to…
Hi, Dr Ghost, it's great to talk to you again! We've exchanged many insights on other series, and all of them are in the same direction. I have a lot in common with your critical view. And now, once again, we agree on our critical views. I'd like to clarify, if there's any doubt, that the analysis I've done here is not a defense of HY's completely reprehensible attitudes (these exact words are in the analysis I did), but I'm simply discussing the techniques used by screenwriters/writers who find inspiration in the fundamentals of Psychology to build the personalities of their characters, as well as shedding light on the behavioral issues of both HY and YX. Understanding the archetypes described by Psychology not only puts us on the right track to better classify HY and YX's personalities, but also gives us the ability to classify them as individuals, with a view that goes beyond the superficial. You see, my analysis is not a defense of their attitudes, but an exposition of what is behind them. Judging them in light of morality, civility and ethics would be a second step. My intention with the analysis is to demonstrate the combination of intimate factors that lead HY and YX to behave negatively like a chemical process, separating the elements (secret personal motives=causes) that explain acts/attitudes with reprehensible consequences (results they hope to achieve with such acts=effects). I do not seek the absolution of HY and YX, both crossed the line of what is acceptable of basic moral rules. HY has been the focus of more severe criticism than that made of YX. Let us remember that he accepted the possibility of executing the entire HY family to save his own skin. I found this terrifying, but it had little repercussion. And we have to face the fact that the same crime committed by a man and a woman will have, in public opinion, very different weights, with a much greater level of severity and demand falling on women. In short: my analysis aims to provide elements that define HY with justice, not with the label of a villain or an evil person, because she is certainly not an unscrupulous bandit. In the same way, we cannot attribute such a label to YX. They are not antiheroes, they are people tormented by a toxic family, they are people who were dragged by the brutal crimes of their family and chose unorthodox strategies to deal with a serial killer, disguised as a fragile and cowardly man, endowed with the genius to commit and hide his crimes in a tangle of schemes and blackmail. HY and YX are together because of their unconfessed mutual affection, and also because they are tormented people seeking the same goals. We won't have the moral of the story if we don't have a happy ending, consecrating justice and the resumption of a family life purged of all evil. A happy ending perpetuates the certainty that crime does not pay and love prevails as the great victor! Thank you very much, Dr Ghost, for your comment and this opportunity to once again have this thought-provoking exchange of perceptions.
》Through the Lens of Psychology: Han Yan and Yun Xi, sophisticated and misunderstood charactersEvery plot strives…
And we must consider: even though HY and YX are immersed in such a dark atmosphere and assaulted by so much violence, Poetry is always present between them, whether through very symbolic gestures, like the kite that YX gave to HY, or through them together, watching the fireworks, or through the purity of Ling Zhi who acts like a light butterfly spreading love and hope.
》Through the Lens of Psychology: Han Yan and Yun Xi, sophisticated and misunderstood characters
Every plot strives to distance us from the truth. If it weren't like that, one episode would be enough for us to discover the backstory of each character. In the case of HY and YX, we only see the blurred surface of their motivations. Let's give a look: •HY demonstrated, right from the beginning, her nature, besides being very needy, is also very affectionate, such as her delicate and faithful friendship with Chai Jing. •The way she tried to see and understand her mother's supposed cruelty towards her, demonstrated her ability to forgive, overcome, and love. This profile presents HY's broad and diverse emotional universe. •We have to look at these two complex characters, HY and YX, with a three-dimensional vision, but we are looking at them from a frontal perspective, because the plot only showed us their facades. •We know, beforehand, that the two are destined for romance. •Objectively speaking, let's look at HY and YX's facade: 1- Initially there is a natural defensive and distant posture between the two, after all, he is the widower of HY's older sister; 2- Both are presented as people very capable of loving and protecting, HY in relation to his mother and CJ, and YX in relation to his adorable daughter Ling Zhi, as well as his adoptive mother and aunt. 3-As the episodes progress, other pieces of the three-dimensionality are revealed, showing how HY cares for LZ (fire scene). Furthermore, she does not deny to her mother that she has feelings for YX and was expecting reciprocity and once she heard, behind the window, YX's servant reveal his feelings and the protection he dedicates to her, (scene at the clinic), this is what made her accept the marriage proposal. •HY and YX demonstrated empathy when they got involved with the Deng family. •YX clearly loves and admires HY, he knows that his days are numbered and needed to have a strong and worthy woman by his side to take over Ling Zhi, his adoptive mother and aunt, after his death. •The brutal murder of HY's mother and Chang An changes everything. The feeling of revolt reaches its highest point, and gives a clear turn in HY's facade. •HY, APPARENTLY, assumes a hostile, hateful, totally reprehensible behavior with the objective of being, in fact, hated. •She adopts this strategy because she devotes all her existential strength not to revenge, but to the JUSTICE that she will do with her own hands, since the State is negligent, lenient, and slow in the face of Shi Yang's repeated crimes. •She then immerses herself in a "kamikaze" mission. For this reason, she begins to behave coldly with Ling Zhi and YX, with the aim of supposedly not making them suffer for her own loss. •HY mourns the death of the Princess Consort, increasing her anger. •When we look at these changes from the perspective of a single wall (facade...), we do not judge, but we PREJUDGE and label HY as an evil person, psychopath, etc. •The knife that she finally stabs YX was the height of our shock, even though she tried to hit him several times with her hairpin. •We completely forget that she is just a teenager and that she grew up maladjusted, in an environment of extreme violence into which she was thrown by her father and by the good intentions of her mother who for 17 years never tried to find out how her daughter was treated, in other words, everything is kind of absurd and even hard to believe. •On the other hand, very scarcely, in a dropper-like pace, we learn about YX's past. He is an enigmatic and pragmatic character. Despite his tactics as an officer of the Empire (which requires him to keep state secrets), he has character and ethical sense (scene in which he covers HY's body with his cloak). •Finally: to deny that all this hell happens exclusively in the lives of women would be to deny that the sun does not shine. Therefore, I add to the list, all the pain and indignation repressed in each woman and emerging impetuously through the righteous hands of HY.
》HY and YX, characters developed within the premises of Psychology:
We are before the famous JOHARI Window, which presents the 4 windows of the individual: 1-Open area or arena (known to self and others, represented by behavior, attitudes, feelings, skills, known to everyone); 2-Blind spot (not known to self, which is information about the individual that we subjectively interpret but that does not necessarily correspond to reality); 3-Hidden area or facade (not known to others, which are the individual's secrets, fears, personal feelings, are not shared, only he knows); 4-Unknown area (information which are unaware to yourselves as well as others, like feelings, capabilities, talents, due to traumatic past experiences, or events which can be unknown for a lifetime. The discovery of one's own abilities can be done by the person himself or by others).
》Conclusion I believe we should look at both HY and YX through this window: they go far beyond what we see or know, after all, as individuals, we all have these same windows...
Oi, Toni!! Q otima surpresa!! Sim, eu adorei seu canal, eu vi duas vezes e curti! Vai ser um sucesso!! Boa sorte!! 💕 [Hi, Toni!! What a great surprise!! Yes, I loved your channel, I watched it twice and liked it! It's going to be a success!! Good luck!! 💕]
It's hard to say, although the series is based on the novel with HE. The series doesn't follow the novel, there are several changes. I personally believe in HE, but cdrama is something totally unpredictable. The series is wonderful, it's worth watching. So far we've had 24 episodes, only 6 left. You can also wait until Wednesday when it looks like there's an Express.
Hi, my friend LilTeemo! I'm immensely happy with your always so kind words. I had not seen you on the MDL pages, except here, on the TG page, and you immediately caught my attention with your dynamic way and acute and sharp perception, whether it is to comment on the poetry and symbols present in the series (both so dear to Chinese culture), or the interpretative aspects of the plot. It is truly stimulating to discuss and exchange perceptions with such an insightful, clever, sensitive person who values artistic, cultural and semiotic aspects of the vast Chinese cinematographic production. I have a special devotion to Chinese civilization, I research every poet, every painter, every symbol, every literary work, every musical instrument and repertoire, present in the series. I am a musician (pianist, flutist, lyrical singer) and a pedagogue, which explains this deep affection for art, culture, and knowledge. If you want to publish a review or post any topic related to the series as a proposal to be discussed with anyone who is interested, you will see on each series' page the "Reviews" section and the "Discussions" section, which are located just below the photo gallery of the actors and crew of the series. When you use the MDL website, you will see the two sections, in this order: 1- Reviews, inside a blue bar that says "Write one"/"Add review: if you click on this, you will have access to the page where you can write your text , and 2- Discussions, where you have all the Word tools. If you use the MDL app, only the "Reviews" appear. Therefore, you can use the MDL website with both sections if you want to access both at the same time, and the MDL app if you just want to write your review. Once published, literally anyone can access, read and comment, and you will be notified by two messages from MDL letting you know that someone has commented on your publications: an email and a message from the app. This way, you can read and respond. In the "Discussions" section, you have the option to respond by clicking on "Quote" (which mentions the person and reproduces what they wrote) or "Quick reply". In the "Review" section, it is very simple, the interaction is exactly like the interaction in the comments we do here. The app offers a world of interactions in Forums, articles, votes for best actor, series, films, characters, etc. In case you don't have the app installed, I'm putting the Play Store link below for you, so you can download it. If you want tips on safe sites to watch all the series, shows, animes for free, you can tell me and I'll send you a message with all the links. Finally, since you are interested in the artistic, cultural and semiotic aspects (symbology) of China that are massively present in the series, even the most unpretentious ones, I'm also including below an article I wrote about the masterpiece, my favorite, The Double. The visual design is by Cho Na, a writer for MDL (he has a wonderful site with reviews, analyses, images, videos, OST of the series. Here's the link: https://chonawrites.com/undercover-high-school-where-is-the-gold/). My article can also be found in the "Articles" section of MDL. If you have any questions, contact me here or send me a message.
No, the novel has HE. And that's our hope for The Glory!
Ling Zhi is my hope (she's not in the novel, which makes me believe she has an important role in the end of the series). She's already lost her mother, it would be too cruel if she lost her father too. The fact that YX is poisoned creates tension, even though there was only one scene with him coughing up blood. After that, nothing else appeared. In the same way, it would be too cruel for HY to lose practically everyone in her family (because she has her grandmother who, by the way, hasn't appeared anymore) and not receive the love she needs and that she believed YX had for her. I believe that episode 24 should unfold the long-awaited romance. I believe in the HE!!
