I remember how popular this show was back then(Almost everyone was talking about it and lining up in stores with tv to watch it when they can't get home... but I was never interested in it despite the hype. I find it extremely boring and over dramatic. The story is draggy, repeated problems and the FL is so annoying- always crying and crying. Their love story is not even that good.
Even for a kdrama standard of early 2000 I still consider this one of the worst - there were so many good shows back then.
Am putting it on hold and dropped my score from perfect 10 to 8. Really sad and disappointed with how things are going lately. This is one of the negative sides of airing the series while still filming the next episodes - the flow of the story gets affected because the writers and directors started to cater to what fans wanted to see.
Klay's character, she is an educated person, a college student who seems to know a lot - which goes to show she is not stupid. Yet, the way she acts... made her look like she doesn't have any common sense. I am all for Women empowerment - if it's done right or written well. However, the way Klay does it, seems too forceful to the point it made her look like a nagger - a really annoying one.
What I hate the most is how the writers removed the personality of the characters that Rizal has written and made it all about Klay.
Maria Clara's friends were made to look nothing but gossipers. They made Maria Clara's character one dimensional, they removed her personality. Same goes for Ibarra.
Ibarra cared for his country and his countrymen - not because of Klay's or anyone's advice but because he is just naturally patriotic.
Maria Clara helped the beggar - not because someone nagged her into it or convinced her to show kindness regardless of whatever may people think- she did that because she was just naturally good at heart. But nooooo!!! They made it about Klay! "Thanks to Klay, Maria Clara started to change" - that's how it looks and seeing the comments praising Maria Clara for her changes and thanking Klay for it, is really bothersome and annoying. They took the scene that would show off Maria Clara's natural kindness and own bravery!!!
The story is good (obviously since it came from a novel) but the added comedic scenes made it better. However, I do hope they will not focus much on the added romance and just give more attention to the story. The last 2(or 3) weeks has been a bit drag... and it's sad that the uneeded romance (on both part) started a shipping war - I do hope the shipping war will not reduce the quality of the story.
My main problem with the story is the characters of Klay and her professor.
Klay, came from the modern world - she should've known that people back then have different mindset and culture- yet she kept acting as if she is still in modern world - honestly speaking, that could get her in trouble.
Another thing is Mr. Torres - he really do came up as a tyrant teacher to me. Sending his student in a world - and put her in a traumatic experience.
Part 2 just isn’t my cup of tea. There’s just too much going on and not enough development to satisfy me.…
Yep. I would've rate this drama 5/5 if not because of the main couple - especially the merman. I read the novel and it was really good. It's sad that they butchered this drama. They added so many unnecessary scenes.
Her company should really do something about the rumors of her spending the night with her co-stars. This is the second time where she was rumored to be visiting the room of her costars.
