What a beautiful series. Truly an incredible romantic chemistry for Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk! I'm actually not surprised that Shin-Hye has taken to this role like a fish to water because she is actually a wonderful actor. It's just finding the right role, and I know she's had quite a few duds. I personally loved her in Flower Boy Next Door. Pinocchio is just dazzling me right now, and I owe it all to the duo Park Hye-Ryun (the screenwriter) and Jo Soo-Won (the director). The writing and filming is top-notch, and going the way this series is, I know there's more heartache and plot twists ahead, and I'm so excited for this (as frustrating as it'll be sometimes!). It's Okay, That's Love is still my favourite series so far in 2014, but this one is definitely tugging my heartstrings too.
Is it implied that Dal Po's hyung killed those two men: poisoned them and then set up the fire to make it look like an "an accident"? Or could he actually be innocent? I'm almost sure he killed them judging by his reaction on the news telecast and then when he put bricks over the ahjusshi, who was in the hole during the latest episode. Either way, this is either going to be tragic whether or not Dal Po's hyung ends up in prison. This drama has gotten so complicated, and I'm excited to see what will happen next week!
I really hope in spite of it all, that In Ha proves them ALL wrong and becomes an impeccable Reporter. I hope…
Anger can always be justifiable, but it doesn't mean it's always right. Anger can destroy a person, and make the people (like those reporters) have power over you because of that residing anger. Do I think he has the right to be upset? Of course. But he APPLIED for the position with In Ha expecting to go in with her, so I think it's only justifiable if he had stayed away from reporting in general. Do I think that he needs to forget what happened, of course not, but unleashing like that and humiliating In Ha because she was fuel for his rage is wrong. I know it wasn't his intention, and I'm pretty sure that he'll regret the way he went about it, which seems to be the point so far. As for reporters, most of them are creatures of speculations, they live off of sensationalist like news, and as much as I can sit and watch in awe of their callous like behavior, it's part of the job. Maybe this series can make people see how reporting can change, so we'll see. Lastly, in regards to finding out his father had been dead all this time, I honestly wouldn't have forced myself to believe he was alive for all those years, to help elevate the pain and frustrations. This moment for Dal Po was probably what he needed, some closure, but he'd be somewhat distant from the truth if he thought his dad had survived and was turning his back on his family. That's my personal opinion. Overall, I'm enjoying the series, so I have no complaints so far with the acting, it's been pretty incredible, and I look forward to see what will happen next week.
This series fell short in so many ways. I didn't want to write a review, and I certainly needed to get a few thoughts off of my mind, minus the fact this is weeks later... Firstly the first 4 episodes were solid. The cinematography was gorgeous, the writing was interesting, and the acting was great. Yet, after a pretty decent set up of a murder mystery it didn't transform into anything but a disappointment and I'm surprised it got above a 7. I've been at episode 12 for a while now and I kept up with the series weekly, and I've skimmed through the series, but I don't think I'll get through another 4 hours, unless I have a moment of extreme boredom.
Why I didn't like it after the 4th episode was probably because the original writer passed away and a new writer had to take on this series. I wondered how much the story would have changed if it stuck to the flow it did for the first few episodes. Especially in terms of Hae Young and Sang Hyo's past, I could envision it so differently. What I enjoyed about this series was the humour, it had its funny moments. I also liked the fact that there was a strong second male lead interest, and that impressed me (who was incredibly understanding too, so bonus!!). Therein lies my critique of this messy drama that could have been interesting if it actually stuck to the murder mystery more strongly then deviating from it to highlight the annoying back and forth love triangle that left me most of the time rolling my eyes at the back of my head. Overall, for the fans of any of these actors, I can understand why you'd want to watch it because it's not necessarily their fault, I blame it on the writing and the awkwardness of the situation between Sang Hyo and Hae Young that seemed always inappropriately stalker-like on Hae Young's end. At first it was cute, their secret meetings, but then afterwards it became... odd. It COULD have been much better, it just wasn't as multi-dimensional as it could have been. Granted not all drama's are like that, but I felt like this one had so much more potential if it didn't reduce it's plots after a handful of episodes to the possessiveness and self-entitled that Hae Young, had it just continued to turn me off from this series. I look forward to seeing some of their new projects but this series was not my cup of tea.
I really hope in spite of it all, that In Ha proves them ALL wrong and becomes an impeccable Reporter. I hope this series, given I can already see the obstacles ahead as there have been, that she overcomes it.
In addition, that was a low blow on Dal Po's end in the recent ep. In Ha isn't the one you should be directing your spouts of anger towards my dear. One minute he's madly head over heels for her and the next he treats her like she's a virus that has inflicted him pain and he reacts harshly and perhaps impetuously. I'm surprised there wasn't betrayal felt on her end... overall, amazingly ambivalent, but kind of telling of the human heart.
Intensity in this series to say the least, and I'm enjoying that part, but that was cruel of Dal Po. So much emotion and it's only had a handful of episodes! Already pulling at my heartstrings!! I can't wait for the love triangle, since it seems to be implied? Nothing too cliche, but something to keep the plot interesting (not that it's not already awesome)!
I am in love love love with the chemistry between Shin Hye and Jong Suk. If there is kissing in this series between these two, I am preying to the Drama Gods that it's steamy and beautiful. Ugh, the story so far, I needed a drama like this since It's Okay, That's Love. I'm hoping the story just continues to get better and better. Park Hye Ryun is writing, so I'm continuing to have high hopes for it!
That poor ahjusshi, dying as as a lovable father/firefighter in Secret Garden and now ambiguously dying in this series... is there anywhere else he's played that role because it felt like a was watching a mirrored acting performance T_T
I have skipped through these last 5 episodes, and I'm planning on finishing this series eventually. So far, I…
Haha I completely agree! Couldn't have said it better myself. I have no idea why on earth Hae Yoon expects anything more then friendship if he hasn't hinted for a potential relationship. Lol I'm sure Hae Yoon thinks it's a "crush" but I'm sure her obsession is more about obtaining the one she has set her sights on. To be honest, to hold onto a love for 12 years must be exhausting. I wonder if she's doing it because she's genuinely in love with him, or it's been so long that she's in love with the idea of being in love with him. Could be a million other reasons, so who the hell knows, all I personally know is the only thing I'm proud of is Hyun Wook sticking up for himself both to that so-called friend and Hae Yoon. Happy ranting about the annoying elements in a drama, I hope Hae Yoon starts backing off soon. I can see her doing more stupid and selfish things though *sighs*
I have skipped through these last 5 episodes, and I'm planning on finishing this series eventually. So far, I don't know what the hell could be so tragic about the reason leading up to Se Na's sister's death that apparently would stop her from remaining in love with Hyun Wook. Seeing as her death in the first place was accidental and tragic enough. Car accidents happen, and survivors usually feel the most guilt when I do believe most of the time it's not. So unless he had some God like powers that sent that car flying forward I'm interested in what this secret is. Lastly, Hae Yoon is definitely awful. Whoever thought shipping her and Hyun Wook together, I can't agree. Her unrequited love for him for 12 years is her business. I don't care if you love someone for 12 days or 12 years, that's your problem. I hate to sound super harsh, but when that's used as a way to make Hyun Wook feel responsible and obligated to return her feelings just because it's been over a decade really angers me. That to me is just pathetic and sad on Hae Yoon's end. Loving a person is not necessarily a crime, but forcing your feelings on them, pestering them, and making decision for them because of the quantity of time and your weird territorial claim on them is crazy. If he hasn't returned your feelings yet, and continues brushing you aside. Let it freaking go, Hae Yoon. You just caused another mess at the end of episode 10 towards that jerkface ex ANA music producer. You just can't force love on others. My goodness, way to be cliche in terms of second female lead attached to male lead because she's known him forever syndrome, otherwise this drama seems to be more melo of late, at least what I'm sensing, so I'm hoping there can be more humor in it. Sorry for the rant, I had to say something about Hae Yoon.
I hope they cast Ha Ji Won with Binnie again! I need a reunion!! According to an article I read, they start filming in November, so I guess we'll find out soon! I'm so looking forward to this drama. I just really hope there's a comedy element to it as much as there is romance. This doesn't sound like it could be a melo but who knows. I wish the Hong Sisters were script writing for this drama. This seems like it would be their cup of tea.
I don't know about anyone else here but I'm waiting until the final episodes release next week to drama binge.…
Well, I can't agree with you in terms of Sung Gyeom. I don't think he's boring. I think he plays his character well. Every time Sang Hyo is with him, do I think it's sometimes boring yes, but do I think that she should be with Hae Young? No. I think Sang Hyo needs some serious therapy or some serious time to reflect. Maybe she can book a stay at another hotel and have time away from those two. In any case, I think it if stuck to being a murder mystery romance, like in the first handful of episodes, it would have been a stronger series.
I don't know about anyone else here but I'm waiting until the final episodes release next week to drama binge.…
Hae Young is ridiculously ambivalent. Usually I'm alright with the back and forth of emotions as events dictate their thoughts and actions, but his are filled with selfishness and pettiness in this series.Sung Gyeom has been a patient, and loving partner to Sang Hyo. In my opinion (up to episode 12 at least) he's the only reasonable character in this drama and treats Sang Hyo like an actual person. Hae Young, on the other hand, acts like Sang Hyo belongs to him (and if she thinks otherwise, then she's just crazy and disillusioned right?? Umm no.). He's had at least seven years to reclaim this so called burning love. It just seemed pathetic that he tried to forged something between them again by declaring that he wants to give it another go with marriage yet never considering Sang Hyo's feelings. I've already ranted about this earlier, and I'm sure everyone is entitled to their opinion because not every drama is going to appeal to everyone in the same way. This drama has been going on a downward spiral in my opinion, so unless it can redeem itself in these last 4 episodes I'm definitely, overall, not going to be head over heels for this drama.
I don't know about anyone else here but I'm waiting until the final episodes release next week to drama binge. I was skimming through the previews, and I know I'll just wanna get it over with in one go. That sounds awful, but that is what this drama has done to me. It was so promising at the beginning (well the first four episodes at least until the writing changed. RIP in previous writer). In my view the only way it can redeem itself in my eyes is if it doesn't stick to conventional drama cliches. But, I can sense it heading in that predictable direction. This series exhausts me. The only bearable person in this series is Sung Gyeom. I will have so much to rant about when this series finishes lol.
For seven years people, SEVEN YEARS, and Hae Young acts like he lost the love of his life three days ago. Even his reflections about trying to get Sang Hyo back, granted he acknowledges he's being selfish, aren't exactly convincing enough. For the life of me I can't understand up to this point when he's acting so pettily about wanting Sang Hyo back again. He could have done that anytime from about, SEVEN YEARS AGO or so? Regardless if meeting again was some sort of weird twist of fate. My Lord, if he honestly couldn't live without her then he wouldn't have left in the first place. There better be a damn good explanation, aside from his work for leaving (or some sort of stupid miscommunication to break off a marriage and keep silent for SEVEN YEARS). Sang Hyo has the right to move on, and she hasn't been giving any indication (well not strongly yet at least) that she misses being together. Sure, Sang Hyo remembers and recalls their time together, but that's only human. So far, realistically speaking I know time is paradoxical. Seven years is a long time, and perhaps it does feel fresh for them seeing as they never were in contact the entire time. But, up to this point unless this theory of Managing Director Hottie ending up being the killer is correct *TEARS UP :'( I'm rooting for their togetherness (SH and SG). I do think that Hae Young appears to be quite an idiot sometimes for expecting Sang Hyo to jump on board the memory lane, and expect her to want the same thing as him. Alas, my opinion! But seriously it was underhanded to ask Sang Hyo that favour because of his father, and shame on (baka) Sang Hyo for not immediately talking to Sung Gyeom about it. Her boyfriend has been super understanding on not "misunderstanding" things, and in my opinion is too considerate and patient to be true. It's not wonder (given the preview) it looks like this is gonna give him a hard time. Geesh.
When Shi Won's mother asked Jun Hee at the 2012 Busan High School Reunion about whether or not he's married, and the look on his face when he responded with "I'm single" ... honestly, deep down in my heart, although I appreciate the fact that a few South Korean drama's do have some male gay characters (well at least men interested in men emotionally/intimately), the fact that we don't even see Jun Hee get a complete happy ending like the other heterosexual couples, it makes me frustrated. I mean, heterosexuality is just flourishing in drama land, and I think this show focused on different angles of what it means to be in love, but I do feel like being "gay" or at least in Jun Hee's case, loving Yoon Je was beyond just an unrequited love, it made it seem like being gay there was no hope for same-sex desire. I have mixed feelings about the way that was presented. I do think Yoon Je still remaining close to Jun Hee was a beautiful thing (progressive I suppose?), but I can't get past the fact that Jun Hee (although a wonderful character!) was just always second fiddle; giving love advice to the one he loved. My heart aches for him, and in drama land I hope Jun Hee finds happiness times a billion because he totally deserves it. The fact that he couldn't even come out to more people, even Shi Won's mom especially, makes me feel like there's still a stigma attached. Even at the end where it's suggested that he has a partner, or someone he's interested in/a potential new love, he still states he's "single" at the Reunion. Again, my heart is still bleeding because I loved this series. Jun Hee was definitely my favourite character. Aside from doing a review, seeing as I just watched this 2012 drama (even though this is a long response) I had to at least reflect about Jun Hee in this drama.
"I look like Clark Gable right..." HAHAHAAHA props to the writer for this. That was hilarious. For all those that got the reference and laughed, that was priceless. And I feel like at this point, Hae Young's theme song is possibly Passenger's "Let Her Go." I think it suits him...
Producer Seo is such a jerk! I hope that idiot gets sacked, or at least gets a taste of his own medicine during the song composition battle with Se Na.
Dare I say.... if Sung Gyeom doesn't end up with Sang Hyo, I'm seriously going to cry at the end of this series. As much as I don't mind Hae Young, there's just something about Sung Gyeom that I love. The fact that this series is already unpredictable, I'm hoping that cliche doesn't fall suit and Sang Hyo ends up with Hae Young...
Thank you burrwick :) it took me a few days to get my thoughts sorted to write a review. I just couldn't begin to express how amazing this series is, I'm so glad you think I did the series justice! I really wish there were more refreshing drama's like this one. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it! I was worried because it was a bit long ^
When Se Na asked Hyun Wook whether or not he likes her, I'm pretty sure subconsciously he'll be thinking "no, but I was in love with your sister." At this point, I think Hyun Wook is falling for Se Na, but he only sees it innocently as a friend/older brother figure taking care of her after what happened to her sister (because it seems like he's already decided his role as a kind of protector figure). It'll be more interesting to see Se Na's reaction when she finds out Hyun Wook's true identity. I don't know what the writer is planning, but I think it'll be one of the most heart breaking things to find out, especially since he's been helping her a lot, and she evidently seems to be taking it as more romantically intimate. I just hope Se Na doesn't feel like a substitute, she is different from her sister, and I hope Hyun Wook continues to recognize that. Otherwise, Hyun Wook seriously needs to be honest about what happened between her sister and him because I anticipate as time goes on it'll just make their relationship worse if he keeps it from her. Just my initial thoughts for watching this drama. But I can definitely see Hyun Wook falling for Se Na very quickly, she's very strong and quite charming.
