Same author of the novel and same production team. That's all. There might be a little easter egg with Changheng meeting our leads in one of the following episodes (the clip of this was released months ago). However, the universe is NOT the same, these two stories are not otherwise connected! The histories of the heavenly kingdom, the clan names and places etc. are different.
Just give it time. Use fast forward button if you'll feel that the first mortal arc drags. The FL is at her silliest…
I have never seen her in anything before this, so I think I can say I am unbiased. I was not impressed with her at the beginning, mostly because the character seemed like your average naive shrieking FL that you see in every other drama. But as the trials go by, she started showing more depth and development and the actress got good in microexpressions. And due to recent plot developments (up to ep 30), we now understand better why they decided to portray the FL like that at the beginning and why the actress played her the way she did (same for ML actually). If they manage to not butcher the ending, this will be known as drama with weak beginning but great pay-off :). Enjoy!
How can people even stand SML? He appears on the screen and I feel like punching my ipad. Dude is as evil as they…
You mean Xiu Ming? He's not very popular here, lol. So far he meddled the most in the 2nd trial and then a bit in the 3rd one. After that, his screen presence is minimal. He might still do some good things in the final arc...so far it seems he is a good guy at core, but with low self-confidence and delusional when it comes to the FL. Annoying, but there are worse than him in dramaland.
So this whole story or tribulations would never have happened if it wasn't for the greediness of the first son…
You know what, normally I am all for the "power couple defeats evil guy together" trope but this time, I think that Xiu Ming deserves this shot. For his family. And because it will raise his credit and his self-confidence, for he would be celebrated as the saviour.

Because she is literally afraid of Chu Kong, she worries that he might tear down the Marriage Pavillion, her home.
In the tribulation, she has her memories, while he doesn't. If they do anything (kiss, make love etc.) and he figures out that she was her real self during that, she's in big trouble because she, a lowly cloud fairy, was taking physical advantage of the mighty God of War.
She hopes that if she sabotages his fate with herself (e.g.convince the parents that she's unsuitable), he will find love elsewhere and still passes his tribulation (e.g.with Yingshi).
Not to mention: she doesn't really like him at this point, to her he is a cold, arrogant person who threatened to destroy her home...
Go through first 7 or so episodes as quickly as possible, just watch the scenes with the leads and maybe the ones with Zihui and Yingshi, skip everything else. From ep 8 the plot thickens, but I still made some skips. The plot of this life is really not complicated, you are not missing out. But the leads have some cute moments that are referenced later, so I would recommend watching at least their scenes.
Had to come here and comment/ask a question. I am currently in the middle of episode 29. The biggest thing I hate…
I just want to say that he wasn't the best at communicating the important info to CH even before that - he literally concealed she had a sister for years, because her father ordered him so.
As for his deal with HX - I think that now it's clear why there was a scene in the previous episode in which he met with HX informally and they were all like "now we are family". He had no reason to believe HX would want to destroy his brother and his fiancée, he probably just thought that HX is an overbearing older brother.
It still wasn't ok of course, it IS super frustrating, you are completely right, but HX played him well and went for his weakness. And Jin Cheng and his children paid the high price for this betrayal.
I just suddenly realized that if they won't completely butcher the ending, this just might be one of my top favorite dramas ever. It's just so enjoyable and so far plotted so well with past mirroring the present and everything.... Praying it will end on a high note and that it will become my comfort show on rainy days!
i will miss canghai and chukong when this arc ends... they were so cute. they are both a giggling mess 🥰🥰…
I love how we can see their past selves in their current selves!
CK is now a traumatized, lonely amnesiac who has been missing someone important from his life for the past 30k years. But whenever he's with XY, he becomes more and more like his real playful and cocky self. He buried all softness for years but it never disappeared completely (case on point: his Lu Changkong persona)
XY is still CH, but without her powers, responsibilities and confidence, because she grew up as a lowly cloud fairy. So she is understandably more timid and naive now. But again - she is more of herself when she's with CK, she is getting bolder, she even learns to fight easily because she already learned before.
I think that in the end, their lives as God of War and Cloud Fairy will count as one of their seven trials and they will become (again) fully themselves in the final episodes.
Thank you! <3 It's always good to have more sources and I've been spoiled since streaming became more common these years - I haven't downloaded dramas for years! :)
Most likely yes, I was just theorizing here. Anything can happen in fantasy drama! I just think it would be nice if the sisters were reunited, but it's not a priority for me, most importantly our good guys need to team up and kick HX's ass XD.
she killed all his family member, they can't be together at the end. I think she died when CH died, because they…
Yes, but it's hard to say how much of it was her true self and how much it was her demonic karma influencing her...would she still do it if she wasn't "destined" to be a demon and supressed her evil powers 24/7, was her character so twisted? I just think that atoning for it by taking care of XM would be an interesting solution.... But I agree that it's unlikely!
I am curious about what Xiu Ming's gonna do with that arrow he's been preparing since the beginning. Didn't he say that it's soul shattering or something? I would love if he used it on the evil guy....remember in the life #2 and in life #5 he had shooting sessions with the ML? Now it's gonna come in handy. #foreshadowing
Even better scenario: the arrow will release Ming Yue, only without her demonic karma. (she might even end up with Xiu Ming, they could take care of each other :D)
In c-dramas, bad things always happen in the wedding day and night. They give us trauma with weddings lol.
I just remembered The Romance of Hua Rong where the FL runs away from the wedding and yeah, weddings somehow never end well especially in fantasy dramas :D
