I think for a show to appear in the rankings, it needs more than 1000 ratings. Not sure though.
I think the rating will drop if this show becomes more popular not because it's bad but simply due to age difference and that Akira was in middle school when it all started. Not many people can go past that and will probably rate lower just because. Hopefully it will maintain a 9+ rating months after the show ends too.

ep 5 was awesome. While watching this episode I was thinking that if I were to be tasked with coming up with a story on the theme of student-teacher romance, Chuugaksei Nikki would be the show that would align the most with my imagination.
This show makes me feel happy, sad, conflicted, sympathy, anger all at the same time. It makes you go through a wave of emotions but each emotion hits you at the perfect time.
5 eps left. If it keeps up the pace and even if the ending is not satisfactory (i.e they do not end up together but the reason has to be pretty good), I will be thankful for the journey

watched ep 1. interesting execution of this theme

A lot of the audience for this show is younger in Japan and they don't usually watch in real time. Also ratings only account for a sample of households like 20000 or so, most of them being families. Ratings are meant for advertisers but advertisers know that ratings as a concept indicates very little about the shows popularity. Online buzz about a show matters much more to them. Okada kenshi and kuroiwa are trending in Japan on yahoo and Google. It won't be much time before we will see him commercials

I think so its necessary for the show to cross the line morally because then the stakes become higher, emotions are heightened both for the characters and the audience. I actually respect the original source material to have included the kiss. This show makes me feel all kinds of feelings I have never felt before while watching a drama. I think so its possible only because I am able to relate to the emotions of all the characters in the show including the side characters. We are also able to see the reasoning behind the actions of the characters whether they be logical or emotional.

Also like you I'm really looking forward to mature Akira meeting hijiri

yeah I was watching it on the tv with my mom hovering around cleaning the room. Even she stopped and sat beside me to watch. She is into art and stuff. She said that the animation is mesmerizing.

For people who want to watch something similar to Chugaksei Nikki, I recommend The garden of words. It's a 45 min anime short film created by the same guy who did your name (Kimi no nawa). I don't want to spoil anything but the theme is similar. Also it's very beautiful. It's available on Netflix. Or you can get it on kissanime.
