I think it is but I don't know. However it's clear that the high school student is the main lead though as he is the one who is in all the manga volume covers with the female lead. And their poses are a bit romantic.

according to ep 10 trailer, hijiri confesses to her an akira's mom that she loves akira. her mom slaps her while akira's mom questions her about something i didnt understand. shotaro tries to persuade hijiri by telling her to come back to reality and also back hugs her. hijiri also gets separated from akira at a terminal with joffe taking akira with him while somebody else takes hijiri away. it seems hijiri then goes to haraguchi who tries to comfirt her by telling her to cry it out. it looks bleak to be honest. but hopefully in ep 11 there is a turnaround.

btw anyone knows her age? assuming she graduated from college at 24. we know she married right after college but divorced two years after making her 26 then. after the divorce, it has been 4 years making her 30 (31 in korean age) park bo gum is 28 (29 in korean age) not much of an age difference. but this is assuming she graduated from college at 24. it could be later too. we know that she married right after college.
this was a really good drama almost movie like. the directing was amazing. the story may make a lot of people uncomfortable. but these relationships exist in the real world. and this show is just a portrayal of one of those relationships. all i can say is if you are hesitating about watching it then watch it. whether you regret it or not is on you. I don't regret it.
ep 7 hurts. its been almost two weeks since I watched ep 6. I can almost feel the hurt akira is going through of not being able to see hijiri for three years thinking that she is married. the last scene would have probably hurt a lot more if I didn't already read the spoilers for ep 8. but still, it hurt seeing her reject akira and accepting the other sensei. the cliffhanger though with the mom appearing at the bridge. now the wait begins for ep8. next semester I promise that I will start learning japanese. knowing that i will consume japanese content whether it be manga, anime or jdramas for the rest of my life might as well start learning the language. these last two weeks of waiting has taken a toll on me. wish that our school had japanese instead of french during my school days

Hopefully the extra episode won't bring extra drama. Rather I would like to see an episode of them dating each other and living together following their daily life. But I know that won't happen. Anyways this means we get to see more of this awesome show.

Kyou kare ore wa (6 eps) - awesome comedy with great acting Kekkon Aite wa Chusen de (2 eps) - interesting theme and characters Legal V (6 eps) - ok show but entertaining Tourist (2 eps) - love it waiting for last ep Dorokei (6 eps) - male lead is doing a good job. Ensemble cast is also good.
The guest (completed) - holy shit. Korean drama of the year. Must watch Encounter (2 eps) - beautiful. First impression is good.
there is new j-drama on Netflix called love and fortune. it features a relationship between a 31 yr old woman and 15 yr old high schooler. I have watched only 4 eps of it and it's very different from chuugaksei nikki. i don't know how to explain it but in Nikki you want to support hijiri and akira but in love and fortune its like you are watching a real-life story between people who are having a forbidden relationship. I am not supporting it nor going against it. its like I am peeking into the life of someone from the female lead's perspective. And it's definitely not innocent, it gets sexual and quite fast. people who are uncomfortable watching this kind of stuff should stay away from it. but there are a few things which have attracted me to this show. the directing is top-notch almost western niche films like (very different from the usual dramas). You will instantly notice that the directing is a level above the rest. the music is complementary to the scenes and cinematography transports you into their world. i don't know where the story will go but its just different. just to reiterate the relationship between hijiri and akira is like one in a million. the relationship between the leads in love and fortune is what you expect it to be when you hear a news story of a woman having sexual relations with a boy who is almost half her age. Its worth watching though because these relationships happen in the real world.
while ratings of other dramas fall as ending gets closer, chugaksei nikki rises.
