Had they cast Vengo Gap, Peng Guan Ying, William Chan or another more mature looking actor, the drama would have hit different. But then maybe some people would have been more comfortable switching the FL.

Exactly, I feel her character didn't have any growth. As a young lady she was mean spirited, vulgar and childish. She never showed any compassion for her sister who had to live out of the Xie household and was always counting on her mother to sort out her problems. So how is she the most suitable wife for the next Marquis? It doesn't make sense. At least, the FL was scheming and seemed much more mature at first glance.
Her karma should indeed be that her marriage will never be the dream life she envisioned because she tricked her husband in the worst possible way. He reached the pinacle of happiness believing to have finally married the woman he loved and she helped tricked him into marrying her and had his happiness and hope crashing down. His parents were hypocrites too imo, they got to have their love story but his own mother took it upon herself to switch out the bride without consulting her husband to ensure they didn't need to fear or please the Hu. They let their son being stuck in a marriage with a girl he has never loved.

I feel they should have let the 2nd sister ending open and not show 2ML come and ask her to rearrange his bow. I'll act as if it were her wishful thinking then hahaha

That's why I said, that's what they were going for. The mini drama feel not focused on spy or military intrigue.
The aim is to try to grab the audience of these dramas as the long drama format is drawing in less and less audience.
They wanted something which would have people on their toes from the get go.

of course there are downsides to this but overall, the drama is a nice watch for me.

You not liking it doesn't mean it's not good. It's a principle which is taught to kindergarten kids.

Also, if you're so putt off by this drama, you're free to drop it. Why would you keep on watching something you despise?

An IDOL Republican drama is different from a Republican drama which is more serious. It was obvious from filming period that they were going the "Manwha" way

That's why I added the word idol in from of Republican. It's an IDOL Republican drama. Not a Republican drama.

The aim was to do something like vertical dramas. Also, idol Republican dramas aren't to everyone's taste because oftentimes it depicts warlords which aren't -in essence- to be seen as positive characters.

It would be great but it's unlikely since everyone moved on. The drama was delayed for too long.

A little Trivia:
Did You Know? The original author was so impressed by the Tan Jian Ci and Wang Chu Ran portrayed their roles that she went back to her novel and wrote a post-marriage epilogue.
