I like Love and Redemption more simply because the characters there (including the main leads) have way more depth to them and the entire story is consistently good. In fact it made me cry the more I watched it. Ashes of love started out great and even had the potential of becoming my favourite drama like LaR but the story sidetracked and focused way too much on the other characters. Not to mention the fl was so selfish, she led on both the ml and his brother (2nd ml) which annoyed me so much! The only interesting character in AoL was Runyu (2nd ml)
Just watched ep 18 and the part where Xiao Mingming saw his dad's token/jade and his face went from realization to sorrow to devastation to anger to pure madness and thirst to kill for revenge is perfection! That is peak cinema! how are people still calling him a bad actor ðŸ˜

i've watched a lot of his dramas and I feel like he is few of the only actors who plays emotional or carefree characters well along with cold ruthless characters but this drama doesn't showcase the best of his abilities sadly.
