Great drama with a nice cast. The story is quite different from the novel and other versions, but that’s understandable since it’s made for a different audience. However, the one character I was most looking forward to seeing has very few appearances. Seeing Medusa in live action was one of my main reasons for watching this, but she has little to no role. In the original works, she’s an important main character, yet here she’s just a minor side character with almost no purpose. Xin Zhi Lei is a great choice for the role, but she barely gets any dialogue, what a waste of a good cast member. Other than that, I think it’s an okay drama.
So ML chooses his student over his perfect childhood friend, he seemed to have better chemistry with Saimon then…
What you said makes sense but I think it's a wrong to say that saimon reminds him of his failures. She was there for him even at his bad times. I think the plot is messy. They just had to come up with reasons for ml to choose FL over saimon.
I do not appreciate how the fate of Miss Gu turned out. She was not a bad character but she was just misused by…
Really appreciate your comment. Like you said about "different perspectives" and yes the above comment was my perspective, it's how I felt. I am not forcing anybody to agree with me, I told my view on these characters and that's it.
Before calling it genuine love I clearly mentioned why I called it. Before his demise, he had every opportunity to kill her but he spared her life, did you not see that scene clearly. He chose to save her life instead of himself. If you failed to notice that then I don't know if we saw the same drama.
I know there's no forgiving for what he did to the ML army and other things. But I think his love for FL was real (at least in the ending).
Decent show,FL was dashing and by far the best this drama can offer.A huge thanks to the subtitles team.6/10
I maybe asking for too much here but I hoped FL, wataru, his mom and her daughter might have a dinner together. We know FL and wataru are together but a time jump with a wedding could've been nice way to end this drama.
Anyway the current ending is fine as well. Good show.

I do not appreciate how the fate of Miss Gu turned out. She was not a bad character but she was just misused by the writer. Her fate in episode 40 left me in the bad mood.
This Liu Cheng Feng character was not bad either but the plot makes him so. Due to Cui Li's lie of having a son, he had to pretend to be someone else so he suffered from psychological issues and he fell in love with the daughter of Cui Li. It was a normal thing. He loved FL too much, He had every opportunity to kill her at the end but he still saved her at the cost of his own life, that is genuine love.
I have watched so many cdrama costume type (historical) drama but this so called emperor (ML's dad) is the worst character I could find. I feel like the writers threw him in just to annoy the viewers, what a waste of space.
FL is bad at expressing emotions, that one is confirmed. ML was totally against the idea of being crown prince and yet she forced him to do it. When he does becomes CP, she gets mad at him for various reasons unknown and stays mad for a long time.
In the earlier parts of the drama, I was so annoyed at FL for playing with ML's feelings, those scenes were hard to watch.
Even though the ending is supposed to be "happy" but I don't know how to feel about it. Yeah it's good ending which can be called dream come true, where all things are sorted, but at what cost!
I was fine with the Gu family members being exiled to someplace far, but did they really had to show that Miss Gu had gone crazy at the end?
Decent drama, loved the chemistry between leads and side couples. Nice support cast and the drama was full of emotions. There are times when writer doesn't know what to do but they managed to finish it.
The story was nice so as visualization and OST. There were few annoying characters and few character turned bad due to some bad decisions (now I don't know what happened in reality but for the sake of drama those decisions were bad and it was the cause of what happened later).
Decent show, since this was under recommendations of Royal Feast, I had to watch this despite the 60+ episodes.…
The fate of Hu Shan Xiang was so bad, she had no choice but to agree to prince Han's conditions and unlike others she didn't do any scheming or bad stuff, she accepted her punishments whole heartedly.
TBH, the whole reason I watched this drama was to see this sisters relationship develop but the whole 62 episodes were disappointed, I only saw a glimpse of what I wanted to see at the last few minutes of last episode.
I wasn't in it for romance but the relationship of sisters who were separated at childhood. The fact they were reunited this early in the drama gave me a bad feeling about it and look how that turned out.
Anyway, people might like this drama for what it offers in history and politics.
Decent show, since this was under recommendations of Royal Feast, I had to watch this despite the 60+ episodes.
The beginning of the series was nice and jumpy with twist and turns, so the first 30+ episodes are worth the wait but after that I hoped the drama should end now and I was struggling to watch and it only gets interesting after episode 53-54.
Unlike Royal Feast which was focused on singular characters and the main theme was chinese cuisine in the palace, this was if I have to name this, it would be war based since most of the time spent is on those scenes and it focuses on so many characters, it's like there's no main lead at all.
Despite that there's a huge character development from both FL's, but this too happens at the very end of the show.
Also I noticed there's very less screen time for Hu Shan Xiang. If the main FL appears on screen for 30%, the war scenes are 60% then she is 10% only.
Anyway for what it's worth it shows good detailed history, people will definitely like this, I had a different view of this because of Royal Feast otherwise it is really good drama.
Really good.. Too good, 1800 minutes, well worth it. And I wish there could be more.Story of yanxi palace all…
I hate you drama, you ruined a perfectly good best friend and companion character. Su Yue Hua was wonderful. As a new cook in the imperial kitchen, she was just like Zi Ping, yet I don’t understand why the female lead (FL) was so partial toward the latter! Even when FL wanted to help Yue Hua, Zi Ping would always stop her. This behavior is beyond me. I hate FL and Zi Ping for it because they completely ruined Yue Hua’s character.
These three could have been perfect best friends if Yue Hua’s character hadn’t been neglected at the beginning. Yue Hua always wanted to be friends with Zi Ping and FL, but they totally shut her out.
First, she was neglected by her mother, and then by her potential friends. They practically forced her to turn to the dark side.
This drama had been perfect up to that point, but Yue Hua’s storyline was terribly written, and I’m not satisfied with how her character turned out. She was supposed to be friends with the FL, such a pure waste of a good character. What a darn shame!
The ending is good and a dream come true for many fans, but I would have preferred if FL and Zi Ping had finally acknowledged that they neglected Yue Hua and promised to look after her from then on. FL does admit this while Yue Hua is captive, but that’s it — and Zi Ping even runs away from the palace after being appointed as matron.
I understand Yue Hua got what she deserved, but the reason she turned bad was because of neglect. That responsibility should fall on FL, Zi Ping, and her mother, not just on Yue Hua’s fate.
I can only hope FL starts to truly notice her in the future.
Really good.. Too good, 1800 minutes, well worth it. And I wish there could be more. Story of yanxi palace all over again (with some modifications). When I watched the first episode I sensed something was familiar not just the actors but how things happened, the way of story telling and how OST is chosen, and it's from the same screen writer as SOYP.
This really gave me the "chills". FL and ML are perfect couple, really good chemistry, not only that the support cast is too good to be honest, really liked almost everyone from Imperial food staff to the Empress and ML's mother, and the other concubines even the Wu. It was simple to watch and not much complicated schemes and everything resolved fast.
I have no words to describe this. Yet another masterpiece. If one doesn't watch this, they'll regret skipping this. 8.9/10
Wataru is pissing me off, she has told you so many times she does not want you, but he still insists and eventually…
You've to remember it was FL who dragged him in this revenge drama in the first place, now you can't have your revenge without some down side to it. He is what he is due to FL's influence. And this made him devoted to FL. I have a feeling she likes him too if not for this family hierarchy.
Yeah - that was pathetic behaviour on the part of the ML. And it was inconsistent writing too, because earlier…
Also about ML being protective of her, I think you judged him wrongly, he even clearly said (unless it is translation error on my part) that "he wouldn't protect FL, he won't be her guard because he wants FL to be strong, he wanted her to face reality so that she could protect herself, ML just want to be her companion in her life to guide him", these or similar were his words.
This was an excellent story. I love watching dramas that tell stories like this. Stories about the oppression…
I disagree with you, ML knew exactly how much Jun Hui cared for FL, which is exactly why he let things happen because he knew the ex wouldn't even think of hurting her. And I think what ML did at that point was a wise decision, Jun Hui and FL were a couple for a long time and they needed this talk for closure and if at the same time ML also wanted to test FL's love for him, so what's wrong with it?
Throughout the drama ML admitted this on multiple occasions that Jun Hui was a good guy for FL. If he were any other guy, he would have been beaten up badly..
Decent show, I thought 40 episodes might be too much but I was glued when I started watching it. Good casting…
This show has many hard to believe issues, starting off with episode 1, it seem like FL used some famous stranger's name as her husband to secure a job at law firm, she had the courage to ask compensation from ML for the loss she takes at her firm? Is that ML's fault that she used his name without his consent? It is shameless or perhaps it's due to cultural differences I don't know.
Throughout the drama, I find myself rooting for the other girl named Li Dai, she's also seem to be working hard but at the very least she's not lying about her personal life to get ahead. So I have a huge respect for her. The things she's doing to expose FL is justified.
The fact drama is trying to portray that single women can't get promoted in job is bad thing to begin with. Or perhaps it is focused on how things work in China, but wrong thing is wrong no matter where it is. It is giving a bad message to society.
The whole point of this lying is made for comedy purpose, but I find this utterly bad. One can understand about the fake marriage but a fake child too? Just to be get ahead of others, FL lies about being married for 2 years and have a child too, other might find this funny, but this is too much.
It's weird though, the company never asked to her to show them the picture of her son, one usually shares this with their co workers over lunch or something. They just accept her word that she has a son abroad.
I hate to admit it, but this guy Tao Jun Hui was too good, he was well educated, talented and a pro, a perfect gentlemen and a proud man who wanted to get everything through his own efforts, whoever marries this guy would be very lucky. Him and FL would've been perfect couple if not for his mother's issue, which I still don't understand why she was against FL and Jun Hui's relationship! Perhaps it's due to china's cultural differences.
The ending is good but that divorce was unnecessary, they made marriage into a joke. But even at one point I thought ML and FL might end up with different partners, ML with Li dai and FL with ex.
Anyway, they ended up together at the last few minutes of last episode. Would've preferred if FL receives the "good news" as a way to satisfy the viewers for this badly written rushed ending.
Decent show, I thought 40 episodes might be too much but I was glued when I started watching it. Good casting and decent chemistry between leads, OST was spot on. Loved the visual interpretation. Good support cast as well, really liked especially Li Dai and Jun Hui also FL's assistant etc.
Although the lead's chemistry was fine but I think FL was not comfortable, even at last episode I find her acting with ML weird, it's probably just me thinking but their relationship looked fake even if it's real, anyway it's just how I thought, otherwise they performed it wonderfully.
The drama was too dragged in the middle part without much plot to it as usual, other than that it's a nice show to watch, would definitely recommend this.
