I skipped all of the scenes which didn’t involve Sun Yi & Zhang Bin Bin after the first 6 eps. Complete waste of time, resources, and main actors’ talent.
The FL’s friends have got either entirely unrealistic or just rubbish personalities. Most of the plot feels like a filler and generally I feel like the script was written by a complete amateur.
I actually feel sorry for the main actors. They’re quite popular and this drama will certainly cast a shadow on their CVs. Smh
Finished it! So Yu He was actually Consort Yan’s brother, both of them the children of the last Sui Emperor,…
Yeah, there were loads changes especially regarding intentions and reasons behind how the characters acted in certain situations. I am not surprised tbh, they did the same with The Long Ballad where Li Shimin is portrayed as somebody who hadn’t sinned and did everything for the good of the people. I was really pissed off because the manhua on which it was based showed a different reality!

I have also just finished a novel called “His Transmigrated Canon Fodder Fiancé”. It’s fully translated and having read it, I feel like Xu Kai would make a perfect Qi Zheng (the Male Lead). I wonder if they’d make a drama adaptation of this novel.

It’s a pretty easy read so I just inhaled it, but my sleep did suffer, haha.
You were right about the book being more detailed on some aspects of the story and less so on others. Certain events which got properly depicted in the drama barely got a few lines in the book. Were it not for the issue with going from 69 episodes to 55, I think the drama would’ve done a really good job in bringing the book to life.
I enjoyed the pace of the novel and was surprised how quickly Chumu got to kiss his Ruo’er as opposed to the drama, haha. Thankfully the translators had done a really good job in maintaining the spirit of the novel in English; I know how difficult that is given the differences in the way the Chinese and the English express themselves.
Rumour has it YiBo might work with ZLY again, he’s already worked with the Director on Faith Makes Great and Being a Hero. I’d absolutely love it if they were in this together!
I feel like I can't stand the misunderstandings anymore
I completely agree, any drama with really idiotic misunderstandings gets on my nerves to the point that either I just skip it all or drop the drama if it’s too unbearable. IRL people actually do open their mouths and try to explain stuff if it’s important smh
Out of curiosity put a poll, which actress do u wish xu kai work with on next project?
I would like to see him act with Zhao LiYing. The height difference will super cute, and they’re both baby faced, so the combined visuals should be rather organic. The acting of the two of them should be pretty good as well. We’ll see!
I love this drama so much. When I heard the actors divorced after having a baby boy just two years ago, my heart broke for them, and it was hard to watch this drama again. But they are so good in it that I’m re-watching it and seeing their actual love on screen is like a balm <3
Started watching it after the Court Lady which is quite similar in certain ways.
I have binge-watched this drama in 2 days with rather little sleep because I was so enraptured by it. If not for the weird scene cutting (some bits were simply missing), I’d say it was PERFECT! The acting, visuals, production, costumes, writing, and pace - all of these were so on point!
The characters were so HUMAN! Not everybody was just purely good or bad. Most had their faults and qualities. Very many of the characters had depth and growth as real people would, learning from their experiences and environment.
Loved the FL & ML. Just like they mentioned it in the drama, Ruo’er was the cause for Chumu’s learning and becoming a better person, and he was her effect in finding somebody she could love, admire, and be protected by. This is what love is supposed to be about: making us better people, be it love of God, country, friends and family, or our spouses.
Actually this beautiful story reminded me a lot of the Story of Minglan. The very smart and kind-hearted ladies started an avalanche in the male leads’ hearts and by that saved the nation later on.
Loved Chumu’s brothers, sister, parents, and brother in law. Their whole family had such a beautiful relationship. I can honestly say I’ve seen very few dramas, which had depictions of such tight family bonds, and I’ve watched hundreds by now. The Princess that wants to become his sister in law is a perfect addition to this bunch.
The empress and emperor have amazed me with their actions both in a good and a bad way and that goes to show that they behaved like human beings. Great script writing, that’s all I can say.
The Princes’ actions at the end really warmed my heart. If I were their mother/father I’d be so proud of them.
Of course I can’t not mention Lu YingYing. What an awesome woman. If only more people were like her irl, how good life would be.
