Sheng Minglan is a very good heroine and example to others. Her loyalty and tenacity is so admirable!
Lu Zhao Yao is also a great example of a female lead who’s unafraid to take on new challenges, but also know when to relinquish her power to somebody who’s better suited. A rather wise person, I find!

Honestly speaking, I see little difference between killing your siblings or your parents. Both are sins for which there’s no atonement. At least, he tried teaching his kids not to follow the same path as him… so that’s something I guess.

Li Shimin did think he was better suited for the throne, but his brothers were certainly not foolish, and the only reason he overthrew his father was because his father would’ve punished him greatly for not only killing his brothers, but also exterminating their entire households. His father was made to abdicate and the one thing the Court Lady got right is that his father never forgave Li Shimin for that.
Li Shimin was a pretty good emperor but his reign was always marred by the Xuanwu Gate incident, which really was a massacre.
Zhao LiYing as Shen Miao would be perfection, and either Xu Kai or Wang YiBo as Xie Jing Xing would be just the right partner.
Even if they don’t go ahead with the above casting, as long as the actors are suitable I’ll be happy. The main CP will either make or break this drama, so they need to be very careful.

That one scene of the FL running towards the ML from two different sides of the border despite the tense and dangerous situation was enough to make me want to watch it and when I did, I just inhaled it. Such chemistry, acting, props, script writing… ah. Top notch.
On another note, I used to live in a soviet country, and I was absolutely amazed by how well they nailed the North Korean living standards situation. So many of the things depicted in the drama I either saw happen in my country or actually lived through them myself, it’s scary… I wouldn’t wish living in a communist country to anybody, everyday is lived in fear.
