On Hotaru no Hikari 2 May 15, 2014
i really really like this better than Rich man poor woman. This drama is almost a total opposite. Where Rich man, poor woman is painful to watch in terms of love pairing, this one gives off warm fuzzy feelings. I still find Hotaru and Buchou extremely endearing. There is progress in their relationship. There is more closeness and they both feel more at ease with each other. But the progress is appropriate for Hotaru.

Kissing huh? This isn't the west where they make out like rabbits at every ocassion...fortunately. Besides that kind of behaviour would be out of character for Amemyia and buchou too. Must every dama involve passionate kissing at every corner? I'm not averse to kissing, mind you. But there are other ways to express a heart-felt bond. Not eveything must forcefully involve kissing, especially where it does not fit with characters. There is warmth here instead, warmth of a bond that is growing closer.

Personally I find the awakrdness endearing. The drama has the warmth of summer to it. and I for once appreciate the subtle warmth between the leads as well. This season makes Hotaru realise even more than buchou is her number 1. It becomes more solidified, where season 1 left off on something of a cliffhanger. That she needs another man to help her realise that is an altogether different issue. She IS slow to realise things but every person has their own pace of development that suits them. This is Hotaru's. She is becoming, in this season, a little more self-aware. she makes decisions about herself. informed decisions that come after some thought. She is really more self-aware than she was in season 1. She makes decisions about what makes her happy and what are her priorities. This is progress, She has chosen her path on her own.

Granted, unlike the red herring from season 1, Mukai Osamu seems much more real of a rival for Buchou because he has a stronger presence. But the warmth is still so much there. Buchoiu and Amemyia accept each other as they are and therein lies the beauty of their relationship. Hotaru's experience is ultimately turned positive and sends positive feelings. Her experience and pace of realising things are relatable too. But the most important thing is that she does do her best. And that she chooses to do so on her own. Once she sets her mind to something, Hotaru will commit to it. She tries her best and she is lovely at it.
I found it to be rather cute all in all, though you know the story. A man mistakenly diagnosed with terminal illness comes to terms with life. This is not a melodrama . I like dramas wtith such a premise if only because I think we all should recognize that our life is a gift, and not a privilege to be taken for granted. The drama does have the touch of positive to it thanks to the leads whom I found likeable and comical all in all The direction is kind of amiss to me though.

I like the honesty :) it;s always refreshing to read a different take, especially on a widlly popular drama.

Hmm. I liked the anime quite a bit myself. The story was much like a sports drama about being determined to fulfill dreams but it was about mangakas and how they struggled with everything. I enjoyed the friendship and the side characters. This BETTER be good. Live actions are notoriously disappointing for me. But Bakuman would make a good live-action drama I think.

Forgive me, but this review is rather vague. I really don't understand anything you wrote.

It doesn't really "review" anything, What does it mean that you "hated" the story but grew to accept it? You grew to accept that you hated the story? or maybe grew to like the story? The thing is most who read the review who don't know the film may have problems understanding the mental shortcuts you made in your piece of writing.

That's why this review really isn't helpful, but I"m not going to rate it.

Try to unpack your thoughts more next time and be more clear. It doesn't mean you have to spoil the plot of the movie or what happens just explain your point of view.

It;s a great thing you tried to make a review though since there haven't been any so far.
On Like Father, Like Son May 4, 2014
A very poignant, intimate piece. I just loved it. A quiet story about what makes a family with a spot-on performance by Fukuyama, who plays the no-nonsense buisness dad with aspirations for his son. Different family models are showcased and it;s a wise move on the story's part done in order to highlight the questions/messages the film tries to suggest. Poor kids, they were so confused, but then again that's another part of the message.
On Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon May 3, 2014
I first watched it on TV when I was a rather young teen. I was 15 when the movie was released. The line that still stays with me until today is "I would rather be a ghost drifting by your side as a condemned soul than enter heaven without you." I think it went like this or similar.. Man at the time I had such a crush on Chow Yun Fat's character! and absolutely loved Michelle Yeoh's character too.- they were perfect, noble and strong and dignified. And their love was restrained but powerful and loyal. I loved that. I disliked Jen though. She was too much of a brat.
On The Terror Live May 3, 2014
not bad at all! That's a pretty good thriller if I ever saw one. Kept me on edge all the time. I liked the delivery. I saw the protagonist in other roles before but here I got completely hooked on his character since he was completely in the spotlight. Literally. He's a winsome actor, gotta know him a little more. Plus some food for thought in between but the delivery is such as not to make that heavy-handed.
On Platinum Data May 3, 2014
It was trite and contrived and I kinda feel like I've seen it all before. But it's not unentertaining, probably mostly because of the very good cast and overall visual quality. The mix of various elements creates a decent whole but it;s not anything extra ordinary.
On The Greatest Love May 1, 2014
Well, when I first watched this drama I dismissed it too easily. I rewatched it recently. The one plus of this drama is that it touches on the ugly side of fan culture and how far fan obsession may take them. Internet "anonymity" is no excuse for being nasty and saying nasty things. I really liked that the drama incorporated that aspect. The main leads worked well enough for me, but I found the second male lead to be something of a sleepyhead. Overall, I still claim the drama is average but it is watchable and can be enjoyable.

but then I'm not really sure I believe what he says, especially to Hae Won. He's been contradicting himself depending on the corcumstances. It's a rather complicated character, LSJ's that is.

Taecyeon's character is explosive but grows on the viewer: he;s lively. some commenters even went to say that Taceyon shines in this drama more than LSJ. Maybe, but that's because Taceyon's role requires more emotion of him, whereas LSJ requires him to be sad and subdued. I think LSJ does well with what he's got and I still personally like him because he's such a subdued character that concentrates his feelings inside most of the time. He cannot freely express himself due to his circumstances. He's complicated, but mostly lifeless. Whio knows, maybe he'll turn mad later in the drama. He really takes a lot crap so stoically..too stoically in fact. He;s either strong or on the verge of going crazy imho.

That's what I think so far but let's see what happens. LSJ character also has a pretty big family: two borthers (including Taecony) and a sister. The sister is mentally handicapped but very sweet and it seems she will have a romance of her own. There is this really crazy witch of a mother-Hae Won's. I still don;t really know what to make of this drama. For now I take each episode as it comes. There are better and worse ones. It's kind of new for me to be watching a currently airing drama this long so I won;t be able to say much until the drama finishes and I refuse to make any definite judgments until the drama ends. I will hope for the best.

Hi Cheerful. Nice to read you :) I hope your drama mood comes back. Yeah, I"m trying to keep up with it if only because my good MDL friend is watching it too so we can compare notes on it, so speak. If this is going to be your first Lee Seo Jin drama I don't think it;s a good start. Why not try Yi San or othe other historical drama he did? Or maybe even Lovers, I heard it's pretty good.

Well, Lee Seo Jin plays a rather lifeless and despondent but clever character. He's always despondent and has a rather sad story. i don;t think it;s a very good drama for him but I like his character anyway. I hope it will develop more later in the story. He's a prosecutor and he;s investigating a certain well-off guy but so far the developments have been rather shy. His love interest acts all stupid though, but it's a part of her charm. I like Hae Won and I think they have subtle chemistry. Both have a motive to join hands since they both seek justice/revenge.

I'm not much into tragic endings, unless the story is overall tragic. But then I don;t want there to be romance. I prefer romances with happy endings. Everything else should be more ambitious though.

Exception: Soredemo Ikite Yuku. A liove develops between two people who cannot possib ly fall in love due to something terrible that happened years before, even though they become something of soul mates in the process of the drama. Masterpiece if there was ever one in dramaland, with top-notch acting.

I recommend it if you haven;t seen it. It's a bittersweet story but one that is full of hope in the end. Amazing drama, not your run-of-the-mill story either.

Will look forward to hearing your comments then :)

To be honest, I don't think kissing is necessary so I;m happy when drama makers find a different way to express emotion. Hugging is enough for me very often but I don;t like fishie kissing either lol.
Evil relatives. I swear it seems as if family members in Korea are extremely controlling individuals. Other than that I don;t think I have much that makes me want to go off the rails but I di dislike when heroines are acting stupidly. Best example: A gentleman;s dignity. Aish I was so frustrated with women in that silly drama. Endings are usually fine provided they are intelligently open-ended or satisfactorily happy.
