He's terrific. Loved his performances in Ryoma Den and Hanzawa Naoki. He has a very strong screen presence that is recogniseable and pulls you in.
On Takito Kenichi Jun 9, 2014
This man deserves some love here. He drew my attention in hanzawa naoki, it was largely my first encounter with him, though I also met him in Ryoma Den. Ore no Dandyism looks fun to me too, if only it were subbed. Now, on to explore more of his works.

Since we can now heart actors, I'm going to go ahead and give him the first heart. I liked him in Comrades. I don't like him in roles which demand overacting, such as in May Queen.

i love all who love Ashida-san <3
Since as of today we can give hearts to actors on their pages, let's give Ashida lots of love ^_^
On Sorimachi Takashi Jun 8, 2014
Personally, I loved him in Virgin Road. This man can project emotions very well. When he tears up, it feels genuine. He was cool in GTO and capable in Arigatou Papa.

I really like her. She has had some really nice roles and has warmth to her acting when role demands it. I loved her brief appeareance in Tonbi. I also tremendously enjoyed her in Long Love Letter. Still need to see more of her.

Title GTO
Sorimachi Takashi was really cool as this character. An engaging drama that I should have watched a long time ago, but frankly I"m glad I watched it only now, having seen a fairly large number of other dramas. This stands on its own merit and certainly stands the test of time as a watchable school drama. I"m pretty sure it will be entertaining on rewatch as well. I've seen a few others teacher-student dramas which I *would* pick over this one (because of thinking factors invovled) but GTO is just entertaining.Has good flow, good cast. I'm always happy to see Kubozuka.

I'm not going to even bother with the remake. Aside from the fact that I am notoriously against sequels and remakes, I doubt anyone can do it as well as Takashi. The new version doesn't seem particularly well-cast to me and Sorimachi-san just had his heart in it and had the right feel for it.

..on to dragon zakura. Let's see how Zakura compares to its Korean remake and to this.

It's been around a year since I watched Orange Days and I still hold a character crush on Kai. The nicest male…
I love Kai. Such a giving person.

Title Satorare
Read someone like a book is taken very literally in this drama and is a cause of much mayhem. It's a well-meaning idea though, offering a bit of good-natured fun. It gets a little tedious but I found Odagiri's character to be endearingly lovable. The experience of the main character ends up being quite positive. There was one character that I found very unlikeable. But on the whole I liked it.
rad_lisette Jun 7, 2014
I agree with you, Lisette. The two actors share very good father0daughter chemistry. Kitamura is a delight in this role, not that I have seen much of him. The supporting lady is also very likeable. The dad himself, as a character, is pretty rotten, though and there is not enough development of any of the relationshios since as you say the show put in too much other things. But not too terrible overall.

Person Odagiri Joe
well I'm all keen to explore what sort of movies and dramas he's done or is likely to do and I have likely not seen his best work yet.

Still, I was drawn in by his performances in : "School behind Bars", My Way (he really fitted Tetsuo imho) and "The Great Passage" (this movie i absolutely loved for reasons other than Joe). He was lovable in Satorare.
On The Blue Bird Jun 6, 2014
For once a movie that does not focus on the violent bullying itself but, rather, the effect of bullying as well as on what schools do and how what they do affects everyone...or doesn't.

A dictionary is like a ship which crosses the sea of words and language is what connects us both to reality and to others. To know words is like trying to know others. For anyone who's ever been a lover of words and dictionaries, this is a very good watch. Nothing much happens in the film: they just develop the dictionary and the main character learns to open up a little more. Majime was so obscenely old-fashioned that he swept me off my feet and made me swoon at one point. Joe Odagiri provides a counter-balance and I certainly enjoyed it.

This movie, for a dictionary and word lover like myself is a little gem. The movie highlights how painstaking the process of creating a dictionary is. Recommended to word lovers out there and those who don't mind a Japanese movie that is incredibly slow paced. It was lovely! That's a 9 for me. I really loved it. I want more movies like this.
On A Weaver on the Horizon Jun 2, 2014
The journey for the main characters takes a rather difficult turn. But it;s not all dreary, either, sice the writer seems to believe in balance in life- those who were unhappy should get compensation and vice versa. It's bittersweet. It goes to the plus of the drama for trying to capture how the main character developed her strong and upright personality, what corcumstances created the person she is at the end of the story. There are some good side stories, I liked most of the characters but especially the Feng Jiu Jin - Rong Xiu Man subplot that was really refreshing in this drama. The general and princess subplot could have been a little better done but it was not uninteresting since the Princess showed her capabilities and tries to be useful to her companion. It's nice to see. The drama is about women who are strong or try to be strong.

I think this was not bad, although still some events seem like purely incidental plot contrivances, especially since the drama seems to pick up some ideas only to end them as soon as possible. But in this drama there are simply paths that are not meant to be, and some paths are better than others. And perhaps in the middle focuses too much on volatile domestic relations which in the end still proves not so rewarding for Qiao Er, I ended up feeling sorry for her somewhat. Too many of those end up making the drama like a cluster of incidents. But this is still muh better than many of the recent chinese productions...

Overall for me storywise much better than a lot of other chinese productions I've seen or tried to see (but dropped) as the story holds together, despite the contrivances and, most of all, seems to stay within the time period (so no ridiculous things like CPR). There are still technical issues with some fake backgrounds but these do not hit me as bad as in as in Vigilantes in Masks and the story here is kind of more sensible. It is kind of lackluster in places. Still..I surprisingly got into the story. This is a feat for recent chinese production to achieve since most of them really started focusing on quantity rather quality. This one is still watchable and I found myself liking it quite a bit.

poor dentist , hes the one that suffered the most in this movie, K and Cream were just retarded
agreed. I felt like his good heart was abused and he is the one who is likely going to suffer. The movie treated him heartlessly. they didn't even consider his feelings.

Title My Paparotti Spoiler
I was just in the mood for some singing movie or drama and this one fed my appetite.

As far as the plot goes, the movie never deviates from the standard approach to inspiring teacher- troublesome student pattern. It follows all the standard elements you can expect from such movies and also it feels very much like a korean drama.

But there is just something easily engaging about it and I think it rests in major part on the performances of the leads. The young student is a character you root for easily, such an underdog (Lee Je Hoon is quite good and it;s a discovery for me here, I feel like observing this young actor for a bit more, see how he fares in future projects) Plus both leads have amazingly good working chemistry and also they hit all right notes in their performance. Han Seok Kyu is a solid actor that I really like having seen him in some flicks before and I'm happy to watch him as the cynical but ultimately caring teacher. I want to watch him in a Tree with Deep Roots all the more now.

Overall, an easily likeable film that offers nothing new but for me I guess this kind of story never gets old: to see an underdog being motivated by an inspiring teacher for succes and to make more out of his life.

I need to find out who sings in this movie, though. I would prefer it if they sang the songs themselves (it;s so much more fun to have singing actors) rather than using a backup singer but well the kind of songs they perform aren;t exactly easy to perform for just anyone.

I love this movie because in general I love all the standard inspiring teacher stories like To Sir with Love and others. So nothing new here but for lovers of such stories like me this is a good watch. There is also the music factor involved that i find attractive for this kind of stories. . This is the type of movie I would rewatch too: an easy, comfortable watch with very good performances. The rating reflects my personal preference and enjoyment I derive from watching a strong bond between a teacher and student. Having had teachers like this that I love until today (and even maintain correspondence with), these kind of stories just kind of hit me riight in the heart.

Good psycho thriller, some scenes were really creepy!
dare I try this? I kind of don't know what to expect. Is it so gory that I won;t stomach it? I'm not very good with gore. I stumbled to this page by accident looking for something else but all these comments caught my attention.

I actually look forward to his discharge from the military this year (I think it's this year). I loved his performance in My Paparotti and want to see more of him, he seems like a good actor, with potential and promise. He;s fit for a movie screen, I hope he will do more movies rather than dramas. and show us that he's got what it takes. He fits the big screen. I hope to see him up thre with big stars in respectable movies.
