Runtime also plays a big part. it is pretty long, and the side characters and sub plot shared too much screen time with the lead couple...I think this drama is more suitable to watch weekly.

Idk but I don't think TVN would spend these much money with a stack cast for a work that was not finished writing.
Yeah I think something happened like the production cost and the need to extend more episode beyond 16 which resulted immediate decision to rewrite or readjust the last parts of the drama to control the miscalculation of production cost. We all can notice the sudden drop of writing quality in the last few episodes.
If this drama deserve 8.9 then MDL should just delete the rating system from their website . It's nowhere near…

By checking some of your watch list, I think it also come down more to your taste. I myself also value great story but not every drama is a story focused so we have to consider everything else. For this drama story is the weakest line but for a lot of people, they including me enjoyed it because it has many great combinations that made up for that (not because what they called delulu fan).
Since I saw that u watched Cdrama and value great story, I want to recommend you some good one to fill up your time if u haven't seen it yet. These are what I considered High Quality Cdrama:
Joy of Life (good time to watch because season 2 is airing after 4 years) Nirvana in Fire
both are very great story focused with insane character depth. If u are that type of watcher u will love these 2. If I compare these 2 to QOT even though they are so different, Story wise QOT is like a baby compared to those 2 but still I enjoy all 3 in different way.
