I just rewatched for the third time and I feel empty. Show and characters are flawed but maybe that’s why they got my heart.

Slowburn, love triangles, poor communication and even the music is not my usual taste. The FL is way to insecure, the ML got to many burdens and doesn’t communicate, 2FL is cruel but gets away with everything, ML/2FL friend is idolizing 2FL to a fault and a ostrich towards FL/2ML relationship, 2ML (FL friend) is a coward and dishonest with all, FL best friend is selfish and dishonest with FL but blames FL and all the professors are passive aggressive, insecure, incompetent, power hungry and cruel.

Absolutely love it. Sure I’ll be watching this again.

yeah, but can’t find them!

Ok show doesn’t make sense at times. Maybe because I was prepared but it didn’t bother me that much. Everyone is saying no romance. But for me there was some. But it wasn’t the main story. So the titel can be deceiving.
Another comment I read al lot is: FL is a bad mother for leaving her son. But I understand her. Because after:
- her mother leaving her when she was young
- her father leaving when she was a teenager
- finding out teenage pregnancy
- getting bullied by Mother in law
- getting separated from ML by MIL trough making him work abroad
- getting depressed
- difficult delivery (all alone) and losing your child
- getting no support but more bullying en pressure to leave
- living abroad all alone after everybody left her hanging (yes including ML) and coping with her losses alone
- finding out after 12 years your child is alive
- more bullying and scheming against you
- kept apart from her child and child is set up against her by scheming MIL
- victim of severe online bullying
- finding out your best friend is instigator and partner MIL in bullying en scheming against you
- losing the father you just found again
- being low key rejected by your son

After all that girl the girl is barely standing. She needs time to heal. Son is doing fine but isn’t really warmed up for her. He needs time to process also.

So I wasn’t bothered by her giving the son space. Early on when she found out he was her son I was moved by how she was thinking about his happiness and not her own. And I wasn’t bothered by FL leaving. But I was bothered by:

- FL obsessing over her father. He left her alone without a word. After she was left by her mother at early age and she was the apple of his eye. Blame the writers for sloppy writing on this part because it doesn’t make sense the way he left her. But it also doesn’t make sense the way she is obsessed by finding him and not faulting him at all. I don’t get it that you put your father who left you above your child.
- MIL gets away with everything! From separating ML and FL, kidnapping a baby, lying and scheming against FL, letting a rapist off even after death, buying off best friend. 12 years later she is still controlling ML (into marriage) and grandchild and separating FL and son with scheming and bullying. And in the end the ML isn’t even really upset. He forgives her because she ill. What?


So conclusion: real sloppy writing in some parts. Show is a drama and the romance is there to create the drama not the other way around. So if your can turn your brain off at times it’s really a decent ride. Enjoy!

Just finished after putting it off because of the low reviews and negative comments. But after seeing the whole drama for myself I think they are kind of harsh on show.

Please spoil me! Than I can erase the drama ending and remember the right one.

Hoe can a ending take this many episodes and lengthy dialogues and still feel dissapointing. Maybe because all the villains get to show their ‘human’ side. Madam Hu’s love for Rong, Grandma Xie ‘s love for her daughter, Father Xie’s initial reform plans and his love for FL mother. But for me that was annoying. No sob story can redeem them the slightest. I felt like I was watching monologues for 3 eps straight. Respect for the actors, so many lines! But I really missed the MC. After their marriage their storyline bled out.

And I was definitely annoyed by 2ML accepting evil sis. Not because of him. He practiced what he preached (to FL). But evil sis doesn’t deserve to be happy.

Anyway I’m proud of myself for finishing!

Trust me, with 4 eps you will feel the same…

I don’t think so. He was up to no good long before that. We don’t know (yet) was his motive was . Could be that he staged the life saving just to get close to ML. When Du sister scheme to marry ML backfired Du brother tried to get into the family himself by seducing the niece. The goal of both siblings became to destroy the family. Or maybe it was their plan all along. we have yet to receive the backstory (if we get it at all).

It’s a must watch so go for it!

I don’t think directly connected. FL discovered through that set that de Du sibling have a lot more to spend then people in their situation would normally have. Because it’s very expensive. Not something that brother would have been aible to afford.

The Du lady is using them to get close to ML
and get the niece close to her brother. O guess the desperately want to move up the ladder.

I think the guards are down because he is visiting his sister who lives there en they are both treated like family. He can freely move around just like the Lin men. But I would think after the flower incident they would pay a closer attention to her at least.

I think he hasn’t got anything to investigate anymore. But maybe just her as a person and not the case.

Yes! I find bits all of those drama’s in this one (great taste btw!) and yet it has it’s own story. The character introduction is really good. The storytelling is addictive, you will want more. It’s fast paced (till now). MC are likable. Only the 2 eps a day are torture!

Right! I read in August that although 40 eps is still the benchmark drama’s (especially historical) with more eps up to 60 can pass. No more need for a season 2 and a a gap of 12 months 🎉

Do you mean ML investigating Du sister? He sort of did that. But there was nothing to prove because she claims it was a mistake made by the maid. And the maid als said she made a mistake. But he is suspicious of her from then on. He ask FL to keep an eye on her for a reason.
I watched ep 15 (16 not yet) and from the flower accident till then the Du brother has no active storyline. The look ML gave him with the drinking game was a look of suspicion but we didn’t see any interaction between them afterwards.

No C-drama is complete without at least one of those! 🤣

No spoilers just my thoughts.

She is concubine born and she herself thinks she is plain. She has no talent or beauty (her thoughts). So she worries a lot about her own marriage prospects.

Meanwhile I think she is perceptive. She was the first to see trough the Du sister. She also knew her niece ‘fell’ for another guy then her almost betrothed. She is annoyed by the fuss her niece makes because she wishes she was in her position.

I hope concubine born sister will marry the Naval guy. He could really boost her confidence and he will get an down to earth wife. I just hope, for him and his daughter, that he doesn’t get stuck with the niece.
