I think cutting of scenes had affected the overall quality of season 2... Many of important scenes are not there so it's losing the same emotional impact from the book...
The scene of Xiaoyao doubting and confronting Cang Xuan is just not getting me... Given Xiaoyao's temperament from season 1 to here, she regards Cang Xuan as her most important one, no matter she has to leave anyone for him, she can do anything for him, but doubting him just by herself.. it's just not consistent with her previous acts.
Tbh the comforting XY scene in drama might not make sense to the book fans but to the drama viewers it does make…
There is no intimate scene here actually even in book. Neither with Xiang Liu, nor with Jing. There are some more dialogue exchange between Xiang Liu and Xiaoyao and Xiang Liu and Jing which actually are quite fun yet deep. If they were included instead of showing intimacy between Jing and Xiaoyao that would be better for sure...
