I don't think so, because they are making it not as a continuation/season but instead compilation, so (hopefully) they all can go together, or at least back to back.

I have never heard that rumor, and what he was saying pretty much confirmed that he will be back. The plan has always been doing 3 seasons, not because trilogy but the novel has 800 chapters or something that there is no way 2 seasons will be enough. He said "him" not just Fan Xian will be back.

for us that we know there is another season and I did expect it will be somewhat open ending that would lead to S3, no we're not complaining. But I laughed at people who complained about S2 just because they don't like open ending and completely missed the whole point of this drama.
