Zhao Yi Qin is so much better as an unhinged villain than whatever gentle righteous emotionless character that…
I think it’s because a lot of Shan Bao’s struggles happened before the show even started. The version of her that we see has been trained and polished and honed already. I don’t know if the final episodes will change this, but there hasn’t been anything out of her control. Maybe she hadn’t been expecting Madam Yang’s death, but we didn’t see the emotional impact of that and it didn’t shake her. Anyways, I’m agreeing with you 😅
I love this fl. I find all the scheming to be over the top and hard to follow, but I love that that Shan Bao wrapped a whip around her waist and pulled it out to punish thieves and traitors during her own wedding. Glad that Yunshu is back in the fold.
I thought the first time between Shan Bao and Lu Jinglai to be hot as hell. Wish there were more scenes with this couple.
I actually loved yunshu and wanted bai yingsheng and her to end up together ☹️
I still have hope for them. He’s still sticking around, and she’s still alive. She needs to resolve that pent up resentment she has. Not sure if RSB is interested in righting the wrong done to her and her family.
Posted this as a reply in earlier comment but it works here too so:I agree. She showed him the height of sincerity…
I agree with you, though, it’s an imbalanced dynamic. I think there are ways of making RSB just as obsessed and still keep her cold and aloof. She could have her people stalk him, keep track of his cases, conveniently appear in random places, know details about his background (lol, maybe this list is too much) and never show an ounce of desire/affection. But I do feel like the show is a little fast paced, and there’s so much going on that the romance is sacrificed.
I think we need to look at this romance in a different way. Rong Shan Bao is a different breed of woman, personally educated and raised by a "man-eating" grandmother. She's been trained and sharpened, like a prized weaponed, all her life. Her grandmother instilled in her warped ideas of love and trust. I'm pointing this out because she's not the type of woman to trust or open herself up easily. She's the type of woman who, years into her marriage with Lu Jinglai, will come up with some kind of test to make sure he was still loyal. Her own children she will probably raise with a lot of love and cool affection (as much as she can give), but she will hold them at a distance. Because that's how important the Rong family is to her. Being the head of the Rong family means that she is something more than herself - she needs to be better and smarter and more capable than those around her. Unless they fast forward several years, I don't think we're going to get a softer, more romantic version of RSB. So, that leaves LJL to push forward the romance BUT maybe some jealously will be a good push for RSB.
The pacing has changed in episode 23, I didn’t think I would like it, but I really enjoyed the episode. There are some nice moments: the sisters playing together in the field, the connection between Yunxi’s daughter and Yunshu, Yunshu hesitating to drug her grandmother (maybe she suspected she was fake sleeping), Lu Jing Lai hoping for some romance with RSB, the return of Bai (the scholar).
I do feel like the romance is taking a step back in this drama, but both leads have so much on their plates that this feels natural. Plus, I’m loving most of the female characters in this drama (which rarely happens), so I’m having a blast.
The only criticism I have so far is some of the acting choices Bextiyar made in the episode. Since Shan Bao has left the Rong family, I was hoping we could see her act with more expressiveness and convey a more relaxed body language. She still seems stiff to me, but I’m not sure if this is the actress’s decision or the director’s.
Really growing to love RSB in episode 22. My eyebrow shot up when she slapped her man and was ready to do it again. I respected the fact that she was ready to shoot a happily harvesting LJL off the cliff. I appreciated her hollow sounding excuses as to why he should stay alive. Then talking back to her grandmother and standing up for women who cannot do so themselves.
I've seen here and on X that people think YX is in love with a widow that has a daughter but I'm pretty sure that's…
I was thinking that, too, because Yunxi and her servant were paying a lot of attention to that little girl. She even got a gold bracelet. But how did she hide a pregnancy, I wonder?

What a great female lead
