China film has announced other movies for National day which means LOCH won't come before early 2025.

He is a role model, etc etc etc. I wish it weren't so. There have been some actors that even talked about it. With XZ, who is the top younger star now, the restrictions are extremely unlikely to be lifted. It's so constraining to actors. It's partially why I am so looking forward to Zanghai. A gray character is probably the most we can get unless it's one of these he was just undercover stories.

He can't play a villain because of the social responsibility that is connected to people like XZ in China. It's a real restriction.

The only thing he could play is a villain with a final twist that makes him actually a good guy all along, which isn't new and is pretty constraining.

Movies in general are notoriously secretive in China, so I am not surprised that they allowed a few small things from the booting and nothing else to show up online. People may still try to get something and even succeed but the production has tightened the security as much as they can. But yeah, don't be surprised if we get nothing from this one until the actual promotion starts.

Condor has been moved, China Film stated just a few days ago. It will come either at the end of this year or early next year. Considering China, this means either National Day (October 1st) or Spring Festival 2025.

Booting ceremony was held today. The security is extremely tight, some people have already ended up at the police due to leaks.

For now apart from Xiao Zhan who plays Mo Dexian as the main lead and Kong Sheng as the director and Lan Xiaolong as the screenwriter, we only know for sure that Yin Zheng and Peng Yuchang are in it but we don't know the roles (PYC may be the ML2 but nobody is entirely sure). The official announcement is often made only before the movie shows up in theatres so we might have to wait that long for confirmation.

EDIT So the Douban page got edited and it's not an official announcement but if it was done by Daylight (it could have been anyone, that is the trouble with Douban) then it's XZ as ML, PYC as ML2, Zhou Yiran as the FL (female roles are usually not big in Lan Xiaolong work so don't expect much there) etc.

De Xian had a booting ceremony today. There has been no official announcement yet, which is tbh pretty common for movies in China that often don't actually announce until close to being in theatres.

The official Douyin account was created a year ago. I have no idea why it showed up here as if it is new but it isn't. It was opened in August 2023.

There are no news in China about the movie. Nobody knows when it will show up but considering the date, it's becoming more likely it won't be this summer. Hopefully that's wrong but it is a legit possibility now.

So XZ is joining the De Xian group today. The announcement will wait for a couple more days but it's already crazy in China so just ignore the provocations if it spills over here.

This is a huge movie that has been in planning for years in Daylight with their best configuration in director/screenwriter/producer so it's shaking all sorts of cages. A fantastic opportunity for him.

The novel is great but I am afraid it is highly unlikely to happen.

Primarily because XZ doesn't do female centric dramas, he is to be blunt, too big of a star to waste his time on it when he has his own male centric projects and when he is so sought after by big players. Also because XZ has moved on from projects like these. He is heavily invested into properly stepping into the movie industry and is working with some of the best directors in China and big productions, China Film and now Daylight. He just joined a group with director Kong Sheng and writer Lan Xiaolong for Daylight/China film production. After that there will probably be another movie again, towards the end of this year.

If this was four years ago it would be different but time waits for no one. I hope they find a good actor for the ML because it really is a great novel 🤞

De Xian's announcement is coming so it's rattling their cages because it's the third big director and project in a row. I am afraid it is going to get worse soon. You definitely did nothing wrong, it's just heated out there.

Well, XZ working pretty much constantly definitely doesn't suit certain parties, especially considering he is going from top director to top director. But it's really wild to come here with the good old jobless narrative when the man is working basically non stop. I guess a certain pending announcement is wrecking havoc even here, it certainly is on Chinese sns!

He is constantly filming and the talk about that is all over social media so maybe you aren't following the right accounts, especially as you do seem to see him in his fashion projects but seem to be missing his work ones. How strange.

He did LOCH, a movie from summer of 2023 to December with Tsui Hark, when he went straight into this project with Zheng Xiaolong that ended in June and is about to start another movie (De Xian Jin Zhi) in a few days with Kong Sheng (and maybe Li Xue). The project after that one is most likely yet another movie. He is working with top people and has top resources these days and in a year his break was about a month. So if you would be so kind, please don't spread misinformation, thank you.

This one also has some CGI. Youku has it marked for next year right now. Winter vacation is actually the best time for dramas so personally I am hoping it is ready by then and gets that slot.

He did. He filmed LOCH the movie from summer 2023 to late December, then jumped straight into this for five months and will start another movie in early July probably.

Being broadcast on television is the preferred thing. Before the filming even begins, the production will register the drama as either a TV/web drama or just a web drama. So ZHZ is a TV/web drama meaning that it can be shown on television. Once shown on TV, it has TV ratings and that's the only real, credible measure of success when it comes to dramas.

Ideally it will be CCTV because that's national television and it has the widest reach. Not all dramas get to be on CCTV, some go to smaller satellite channel but ZHZ is by ZXL who is a legendary director so CCTV8, prime time (19.30) should be it.

Ideally though, it would be great if it could be shown on CCTV1 at prime time, that's the biggest channel out of all CCTV channels but it's always difficult because competition is huge. CCTV8 should not be a problem though 🤞

Lol yes that's the name for CCTV 6, they show movies.

Reservations are a marketing tool and as such, aren't a real indicator of anything because often platforms inflate those numbers on purpose, especially right before broadcast, to try and create some hype. Don't think too much about it.

Ah yes, a Tsui Hark and Xiao Zhan movie, with a worldwide release, will somehow totally be overshadowed by this web drama so much so that they need to move their schedule accordingly.
