I feel you. I got so much to say abt this impeccable project, but i wanna do it properly, and yet i still dont know where to start, fearing i might leave out some crucial moments, also i still cant find the time to actually do it. 🫣

Dude do be doing everything in his might to snatch A Li from Xiao Heng just like what i'd said before (told ya, not much difference even if they switch lives). He cornered him thinking he was abandoned down there alone without power, wealth or status to rely on (things that murderer shen thought were the reasons A Li loves Xiao Heng).
Until A Li appeared & became the only one left on Xiao Heng's side, showing that scumbag what true love genuinely means. I didnt realize it before you pointed it out. Xiao Heng rarely had a 1on1 moment with murderer shen, and their encounter inside the prison was like the second time they met without anyone else present, and so not until that scumbag cowardly threatened XH with the fish tailsman did i notice it was the only time Xiao Heng responded to him, fortunately with the most triggering remarks aimed at that jerk.
I knew it he would flip when he heard Xiao Heng (with the brightest smile on his face) called Xue Fangfei A Li. Satusfying through and through.

He shielded himself with his own Mom & Sis from the guilt that came after killing his own wife, and from Wanning's potential wrath. He doesn't give a d*mn abt his Mom & Sis, all that matters is his pride.
While for Xiao Heng, as a pawn or the Queen of his heart, he always puts A Li as his prime priority. He never tried to reshape her acccording to his standard.
He embraces everything about her. Her brilliant mind, her bravery, her strength, her stubborness, her agility and even her rage. He trusts her capacity, her intelligence, her judgment, and most of all her conscience. He loves her for her.
After all, the only person A Li ever allows to let herself being seen tired, helpless & panic was none other than Xiao Heng. And that because she knows, despite everything that she is, and all tbings she had gone through, he would still, no matter what be her rock. A Li & Xiao Heng are two decent human beings whose pasts equally invloving injustice done to their loved ones, yet they never lashed out to just anyone they encountered along the way. They never pitied themselves, instead they took the high road & gradually starting over by properly manage their payback plan to ensure ONLY the responsible parties would be held accountable. In the midst of it all, they found their way to each other and grow better together. They're each other's reason to smile.

What happened to her when she was held captive in Dai was horrible, terrfying and henious. I genuinely felt bad for WHAT she had been through there. BUT, i dont condone what she had done to XFF or anyone else whose lives she easily wiped out simply because she could.
The damage has been done when she returned to the capital, and perhaps since no one showed sincere and thorough care about her situation by that point in time, it drove her to the point she would take even the smallest form of 'attention' she could get from anyone, man in particular. And of all people, he met the ever equally, if not more, psychotic Shenyurong that day.
The man needed spotlight, the woman needed attention. They found eactly what they were looking for in each other. But to me, they are nothing but each other's karma. Which makes them the 'perfect' match indeed, destined to be together.

He thinks of himself more highly than he should have. He married a Magistrate's daughter after all, appointed as an imperial official and was fancied by a Princess. Like, dude must've thought he was at the top of some mountain.
Xue Fang Fei & Wanning were part of his accomplishments, only the former was clearly replaceble according to his narrow minded self, cause he thought Xue Fang Fei was just another weak, gorgeous lady who is helpless without a man. She was just a regular woman who (as per his own words when Wanning recently asked who taught him playing Guqin) couldn't teach him playing the instrument. He literally underestimated his own wife's capability ( exactly like that pervert Zhouyanbang said about Ruoyao, she's an 'obedient' woman ).
He probably thought getting rid of his own wife wouldnt hurt him that much for he expected that the gain he might secure in the future following Fangfei's death would be far more majestic than the life he shared with her. After the morning period ended, life would return to its normal state and he got to be, at least a Prince Consort.
