My worst experience on Viki during the "LGTV browser working awesomely & Viki having a great player with epic cmt interaction" days was while watching the series Lucky Romance.. it was just an endless bombardment of negativity from bullying cmts mocking & complaining about how the lead female character was dressed & them repeatedly insulting her style or "lack of" & it constantly ruined my mood during nearly every scene & I would spend a ton of time after every ep downvoting all the senseless hate & reporting truly vile stuff as well.. ugh. By the end of the 16th ep I said smth to effect of hoping all the bitter & cruel judgey ppl eventually grow a conscience & learn how to be kind humans because no one deserves that, to see / hear / read ceaseless rudeness on the level they were putting out, especially while trying to just watch a series & share general thoughts & fun cmts with others. Each ep also had a Disqus cmt section at the bottom of their individual watchpgs too so I would plead with them to give it a rest alrdy & that the timed cmts needed serious moderation.
Those Disqus areas were the sections tho where most wd do their complaining about the subs or lack of.. I would report them as spam because it did say right in the rules at the top to not bother when the whole site was a *community effort*. Boggles the mind how entitled too many ppl can be! I've done captioning work, it's extremely difficult & requires patience of a special kind.. if only ALL viewers could respect the dedicated effort that goes into it! ♡
No such thing as "dumb questions", lol curiosity gets us answers one way or another & I'm always happy to play Google especially as I can provide extra advice from experience ♡
The FireStick, like the Roku, does need a plug, but it's not an ordinary one - it's powered by USB. So for my setup I just used one of the slots on my main USB adapter. I didn't hook up the HDMI direct to a slot behind the TV tho, I used smth to connect it to an HDMI cord I had been using for smth else. If you hook it up behind a TV, some ppl use a USB slot on the TV itself to power it.. depends on your setup really.
As for advantages, yeah none of my positives involved any money lol I only cared about access to things not available on my awesome Roku ie namely decent captions styling on Amz Prime: Amz used to have an awesome font then it poofed then the whole ability to style subs on their Roku app just got removed & for SOME reason they never wised up to be like Hulu which uses the Roku's own nearly perfect caption styling lol & ugh it was just a real pain for me, heh. I also got an Xfinity Flex with my internet service & occasionally the Prime on that one would have the old font I love but it was very rare. I used Amz on my LGTV for the longest before those devices, but the font got messed up there first. The FireMax thing I got now tho.. pretty fonts on the Prime! Also because it's literally the ONLY app ever that allows you presets for cap styles, I was able to discover an even better look for captions while watching animated media. I'll eventually post the results somewhere but man.. I wish every app had that ability!!
Besides the fonts.. well, I don't own a full computer LOL. I briefly used a laptop for media streaming a few years back but it died a few years btwn then & now. To mirror things I'd have to use my Galaxy S7 & it too often would end up buffering or freezing & driving me nuts. My LGTV browser is no longer compatible with a lot of websites (one of the reasons I tried switching to an HDMI-connected laptop- I used to love contributing to the timed cmts on Viki with positivity! but that was btwn 2016-17/18?ish) & so if you got a computer that works great & can get apps of its own (& don't currently have any font issues in captions), yeahh then you probly wdnt exactly "need" a Fire device, LOL..
Oh gosh, I remember the complainers at Viki lol back when I watched with the timed cmts on anyways.. I don't see them nowadays lol since I only watch via Roku - & yeah meanwhile I been waiting what, 4-5yrs for this series to get properly subbed LOL oyy!
The FireStick is just a streaming device like Roku or a smartphone but shaped like a USB-drive that connects to an HDMI port to whatever screen you prefer. It comes in a few diff versions like a "cube" if you preferred smth more box-y, lol. I grabbed the latest stick model as it said it'd have Wifi6 & I was also getting a new router plus there was a sale. Amazon is the maker of the "FireTV" platform & the preorder for the one I got released just last week was under $60, making it actually even cheaper than my Roku Premiere+ (4630X, bought in 2016). The 3rd reason I got it is cuz I'd heard that it had computer-y abilities but nah, the built-in browser is kinda crap, as the system desperately needs an airmouse (my LGTV's browser via "magic remote" has ~spoiled me for all other internet-capable devices LOL) & altho you can visit sites, it's beyond cumbersome to navigate them with the directional ring on the flimsy (but sleek & simple) remote.
Thus it's best to stick (oop, no pun intended but loool) to just using it for apps, like a ~bonus to Roku. I'm a "watch captions on everything" viewer so while this device has its advantages, I still prefer the Roku for most everything else. Reason #4 for getting the FireStick is cuz the Amz app on Roku ruined their ability to style the captions a certain way some time ago so I had stopped using Prime but I was able to make the Firestick ones look close to my prefs & am able to comfortably view my fave media there now.
If you use the Roku apps for Netflix & Viki they are also on Firestick too. I'm a 4K subber of NF, so Idk what the lowest tier is now & I forget what plan I have for Viki but I'm sure they still have their free level.
If you can tho.. always aim for the year-long subs. Much better in the long run when they have deals & can lock you in at better rates in case of when prices may increase.
I have never found a way to watch this series on Roku, & recently (finally) added a FireStick to my setup cuz 1. it has the iQiyi app! yay so I can now watch other series on there without the pain of mirroring lol & 2. being actually Android-based it has multiple VPNs that I can use with Netflix so I don't have to mess with my router (as I was considering doing at some point) for my general movie-viewing interests (my alrdy-packed Letterboxd watchlist is always growing!) xD

Soooo many different types of feelings that get just lumped under the "like/love" umbrella, itself which is all conflated in one big mess cuz rings went off for such easily fleeting feelings as "that girl's cute" (they show that happening ~multiple times which proves it picks up on mere crushes!) YET they continue to obsess over the thing like it's an indicator of REAL love, pfftt.. && meanwhile the only time it was shown working realistically was when it was JoJo's college classmate rings a lot of "cute guys" cuz she "just likes them" on their level of cuteness lol siiigh.. x.x
So two ways this concept could've been much better explored: one, a ringing SCALE from basic "attraction" (be it physical or emotional, etc), to mild crush to serious crush to swoony love to "ready for commitment" love (5 levels, perfectly balanced). Two, yesss the potential for a love triangle to leave the cliche behind & finally prove you CAN "love" more than one person at a time romantically, lol & then defy the stereotypes & tropes of jealousy by making it work!
