pretty sure that the husband is not dead (preview for episode 7), as in the beginning of first episode they say she "has two husbands", so that wouldn't make sense and rather he will return at some point... or the storyteller ML will literally take his place as they keep his death a secret - that is also possibility I guess

if he's fully exempted from military service, I guess it is most likely serious medical condition but... well it's weird he supposedly waited and yet shot drama after drama... idk

I don't think they must say exact cause of death, not to mention you can't compare doctors and finding cause of sickness/death now and centuries ago... Logically most likely stroke/aneurysm. I don't think he's boring at all, we will surely know more about the husband and his reasons in the upcoming episodes.
