I agree with all you have commented!May I ask, where did you watched the last 2 episodes? When it was late aired…
It's on WeTv and there is also on YouTube but the translation is not that good. The channel's name is Karlo. There is also on Bilibili but it's censored.
I hate this series. Why I hate it because my sleep has been disrupted. LOL It made me binge-watch it from past…
As for the kissing scene, I agree with some comments here. They could have done that better. But watching those scenes though gives me another perspective and that is Earth and Bank seem hungry for each other. Their kissing looks bad and not artful but I see them munching their mouth and lips. LOL
I hate this series. Why I hate it because my sleep has been disrupted. LOL
It made me binge-watch it from past midnight to morning, only giving me four hours of sleep. In the end, despite the bad engsub, I have come to love the series.
This is the first BL series that has managed me to gush at the main characters. I have watched many BL series and I think those who know me here know how toxic I can be when I defend a BL series such as TharnType.
But I understand that this BL series is not everyone's cup of tea. It is not perfect but it is a feel-good BL series that I end up loving it.
It is a shame that there is no extensive social media promotion for this series. I have come to love the main characters but I have to take a special mention to Earth for justifying the role of Songkram. I don't really like that cool, arrogant, and handsome main lead but his character is volatile. He can be this sexy arrogant over-achiever but also a silly lover. There are moments where he is romantically excited chatting with his new boyfriend that I find really cute. And then he can be this strict boyfriend even though they are not in a relationship yet.
And their acting is also good. It's a comedy BL series so I expected chaotic scenes. There are a lot of them actually.
I feel like some scenes should have been retaken but the spontaneity of those scenes, the natural acting, and the vibe in that certain setting and the flow seem satisfactory for me as a BL audience. It's like they were having fun during the production and might have that 'come-what-may' attitude in the recording of scenes. But the results are good. I feel like I am watching a stage play where a character appears and then another one exits in one scene and then another. But I still see the direction to be exemplary.
I have to commend the director and editor for that.
I have to say that Destiny Seeker is a rare gem in BL. I would have given it 8.5/10 but seeing the ending of the series, a 9.0/10 is a fitting rating for the series. Again, it's not perfect. I can see some BL fans ranting about the cliche moments in the scenes and some generic tropes. But what it delivers is a feel-good vibe in the end. I am very entertained.
I did not even mention the sultry scenes and even the side characters. The character development of side couples is satisfactory to the point that it does not eclipse those of the main characters. They even help build anticipation for the main course though some viewers may have complained that the bed scenes of side couples are earlier than the main leads.
Anyways, I like the differentiation strategy of the directors because even if the bed scene of the main leads occurs in the last episode, it is all worth it. Viewers will have to check it.
I am looking forward to more of EarthBank series because they are another BL couple that deserves the BL fans' support.
We cannot control what people think or what they post on the internet. So if we're too easily affected by people…
I honestly think it's a HIT. Don't concern yourself with what others think as they have their biases. In the BL industry today with many series being aired, it's inevitable for many fans to stick to their biases for loyalty.
Being a MG fan, despite the shortcomings, I also have my biases. I also love KinnPorsche so much as it is what I consider the best this year. But Vice Versa has its charm that I can support story-wise. It's a masterpiece in many aspects.
Is it too commercialized? It's understandable to have sponsors in this kind of show with the cutthroat competition and with the studio always looking for the next best BL couples. The actors and the production team also have to earn.
It's a Masterpiece but it's not perfect. But it's personal preference for me to end up loving this series.
Points that I can see to have some flaws in the series:
1. Ad-laden
But this is understandable. I have watched many Western shows with characters brushing their teeth. I even got to watch a horror Western drama that used the cola after knowing the water in the faucet run out. That's so gross!
The thing is brushing the teeth has certain symbolism. It's like a moment in which the character makes an inner contemplation as he/she does the act of tooth-brushing. The drama though capitalized on it by incorporating it with a toothpaste brand, It seems clever. This is also where they get the money to pay the actors. And there's also KFC and then the juice brand. But I think they have done incorporating the commercial products cleverly.
To complain about it though it's kinda off considering many Western shows also incorporated famous brands in their shows.
2. The parallel world and the inability of the production team to make an emphasis about it
I actually think the universe where Talay and Puen got soul transmigrated is not really that advanced. But it's still advanced compared to current Earth surface civilization if I have to consider the Kardashev scale in gauging the Type of civilization.
I liken the experience of watching the series to Spirited Away. The viewers must not be lazy in observing the world and pointing out the differences. That's where many viewers really fell short in doing that and yet they still have the audacity to comment about it. One has to make careful observation no matter how minute it is and then make certain comparison to the 'old' universe that Puen and Talay used to belong before being transmigrated.
Also, the other parallel universe already exists. There is nothing to build on it that would convince the viewers to like it. One must have to understand that there is another universe that is not really that different from the former universe the two main characters used to belong though the series has managed to show the differences implicitly through dialogues and the main character's observations. The viewer's task is to make comparison as to the similarities and differences between the universes in the series. The series, however, has managed to do that in certain parts and dialogues. Again, one has to closely observe it.
Vice Versa is not perfect. But the series' production team has managed to deliver a show that is interesting to me. There are many scenes that are worthwhile to remember such as the Glass House scenes, the secret island where I get to see Sea's incredible acting prowess and the secret quarters of the beings that have experienced transmigration in another universe.
Why I consider it a MASTERPIECE is because of these factors:
1. Cinematography
The settings really bring certain favorable impression to me as a viewer. The series really puts good money in investing good cinematography director/s.
2. Symbolism
The colors and the rendezvous and even their actions such as brushing their teeth are symbolic or have certain representations. They even managed to incorporate meanings in the preference of chicken parts though it seems very mundane. But what the viewers must understand is that the more this is integrated, the more we see a certain practical realism to a genre we often consider as a fantasy as it is, Boys Love.
I also like the Glass House symbolism. It's so cleverly done romantically. Again, this is Boys Love. Romance is always there. The show, however, has created a very unique yet magnificent approach to it. I love that the place is regarded to be where Puen really got to see Talay in a romantic light.
Moreover, each episode is titled in different colors. And they ace in doing that as it takes precedence to certain expectations or assumptions as each episode progresses.
3. Acting and chemistry
Sea is very impressive as a neophyte actor. Jimmy also acts very well. Their interactions are done remarkably, demonstrating their off-the-chart chemistry.
Talay's character of being adamant in accepting spontaneous kisses seems to show his character though some viewers may find it frustrating. I would also do in a certain way considering that the act of kissing is very normal when in a relationship. But the writer seems to show that to his character when he is being sober and playful and yet, Talay didn't have reservations in kissing Puen spontaneously when he got drunk. That moment though was when he got head over heels in Love with Puen/Tun and he somehow took the advantage of kissing Puen in his drunken state. LOL
Overall, the series for me is very impressive, a masterpiece as I see it and measure it. This is a great start for JimmySea tandem.
As someone who has been here on MDL for years now, only picking the best to comment on certain drama section, I can really say that this is a superb BL drama.
I regret not watching this from the beginning. So far, there are 3 BL series from GMMTV that I really like. Bad Buddy, Dark Blue Kiss and Vice Versa. But Vice Versa already ties with Bad Buddy on my favorite GMMTV BL list.
The drama is not even shallow if you really follow closely the plot from the beginning. It's very rich in symbolism. I have actually prepared a very long article for posting here but I have decided to post it on a review section.
This is rare for me to gush on a drama. I always have that nature to ditch a BL drama that falls short on the acting part, the sequencing and even the relevance of the story.
What Vice Versa has managed to remind me is the possibility of a SOUL COMPANION. It's different from soul mate because it's possible to have many soul mates. But from what I have learned, in certain cultures within this universe, there is that SOUL COMPANION that will always be with you in various incarnations. In this case, the soul companionship is done in a remarkable way though it's not that profound. But still, I commend the writer's idea of finding love in a parallel universe.
Plus, I also have to commend the acting of the main couple especially Sea. He is already a great actor for a neophyte. He is very expressive and the way he cries like he's very effective in doing the act without the need for him to go ugly cry. He is also very talented. Watching him in this series, I think I have found a new bias after Mew.
Honestly, I ditched this drama after watching the 5th episode. I didn't start from the beginning though because I wanted to see if it's really interesting. Last week though, I got a time to spare on YouTube and I found the episode 10 being aired. I finished the 10th episode with a bit of interest. It's only this Sunday that I got to binge-watch it, giving it a chance. And I am glad I did because I really got hooked from the 1st episode until the finale. I spent my Sunday afternoon sacrificing my self watching it until the break of dawn to finish it. I am a happy I did though because I have really found a new quality BL series that is worth a big mine of crystal gems.
Hey listen, (if u haven't realised it yet) True Beauty is a rom com k-drama, high in ratings in it's own rights.…
You have the right to do what you did and ought to do. I also had my share of dealing with homophobes on MDL in other BL pages. It's when they're called out and by encouraging other users to mass report them that they would eventually stop. Ignoring them however, would somehow empower them especially when they've thought that their first comment was ignored and then they would add another comment and then another, encouraging other users with the same mindset as them.
After watching 12 episodes of the series, I honestly believe that casting Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun to their respective roles is perfection.
Zhang Zhehan's beauty is very mesmerizing in the series. I even find him very hot on his disguise as a sickly dude. Also, the actor's portrayal of his role seems effortless. It's like I can already surmise him to be a very seasoned actor.
Gong Jun is a big surprise for me. He definitely is the perfect actor for the role of WKX.
Reading the novel, I found out that the scenes are quite different. Even though I’m still on chapter 19 it’s…
I've been doing that since watching the series while continuing to read the novel. Just reading the novel, I already find the story very good. The series makes the visualization part more appealing despite the change of scenes and even characters from the novel.
This is the first time watching a drama that I feel that 40min+ is very short. I haven't seen any scene that seems to be dragging in WoH. I am a sucker for Chinese traditional music so watching certain scenes that seem to be still but then the flute and guqin are being played is like meditative to me. I feel like the director and the team really did a great job in making the series worthy of the attention it currently gains.
What ?? ?? WKZ and Gu Xiang have more of a father-daughter relationship. They don't like each other as in a romantic…
Gu Xiang's statement that she would follow WKX even in death was perhaps borne from gratitude as WKX practically raised her. Secondly, she had to be careful with her words knowing her Master is very powerful and wouldn't mind killing her especially knowing that he had the right to do so as WKX raised her, so he could also kill her on a whim.
OK.....not gonna lie....i really REALLY didnt like the first half of ep1. IDK why and this is just my opinion…
I'm a person who values more the literary work than its adaptation to on-screen medium. Hence, I didn't really like The Untamed from the start and decided to wait to finish all the airings of the episodes before watching each in marathon. I was also busy at that time when all eps were aired. However, I ended up loving the series because of the portrayal of the actors. I couldn't count the times I have cried over certain scenes. I even managed to rewatch all 50 episodes for 5 times. There are certain scenes that I couldn't get away until I rewatched them many times for me to be satisfied. I wasn't even active on MDL page of the Untamed but I still rated the series a 10. I even reread the novel because I wanted to make comparison between the 2 media.
As for Word of Honor, I caught up the first 8 episodes last week and then proceeded reading the novel version when I felt like I needed to know more about the story last weekend. I find that experience enlightening. It's the same thing I did when watching Doulou Dulu(anime) and then finished reading the novel in 5 days. There's something about the story that makes it compelling. The story in the novel is good though I needed to finish it as I am waiting for the rest of the chapters to be translated.
In the series, however, the chemistry of Simon Gong and Zhang Zhehan are palpable. That's the advantage of this series. But then, the story is still very compelling that I wanted to know how the story is interwoven by witnessing, observing and analyzing the bits and pieces to know how the puzzle has come to be by watching each episode. I feel like the series is about mind games and yet the 2 protagonists don't have ulterior motives to come out at the top but rather to experience the feel after seeking vengeance( for WKX). But for ZZS, his motive is to get out from the web because he knows he only has a few years to live and wanted to spend it in a way that he deemed preferable for him. But then he is entangled with another character, who happens to be his soulmate, and so he couldn't help but become a participant despite being unwilling from the beginning. Unbeknownst to many, it seems to be the work of WKX as he referred ZZS as a 'variable' during 2nd episode. WKX coaxing Cheng Ling to become a disciple of ZZS has sealed the deal for ZZS to not anymore be that passive player in the game.
Knowing these variables, I really think that story is intelligently done and that in each episode, we can witness another layer on how the story has been told as the characters play out their roles in the wuxia world. Thus, I feel that Word of Honor is one of the deserving Asian dramas to be worthy of being rated very highly amongst the critics.
Gong Jun can really deliver Wen Ke Xing very well. How he retains his somewhat innocent-looking charm while acting very villainous and yet is effective on being fearsome is a kind of acting technique closer to someone who is psychotic in real life. When WKX said that he could be crazy, then the actor portraying WKX portrayed it well.
I think what's interesting about TYK's two main characters is that they both come from quite a tragic and so to…
"I think if you were to conduct a side by side comparison of this novel with the xianxia novels you have mentioned, you'll notice how Faraway Wanderers pales in comparison in terms of blatant depictions of xianxia elements. "
I agree to this statement, That's why I mentioned that the story started as wuxia though the magical elements in the later chapters compel me to "re-categorize" it.
As for sound magic/music sorcery, it's a different subject to discuss. Based from your statement or POV on that, it may sound different than what I have or believe in (or even practice) being a mystical being so we might not agree on that subject.
I was even surprised that cultivation is used in Eastern esotericism and in this genre. But then I find it a broader category to refer to beings with mystical abilities where magic/sorcery is within its umbrella. Consequently, that categorization has more favorable tone considering Taoism and Tibetan Buddhism are mystical religions in which the beliefs and teachings are incorporated in xianxia novels and even in wuxia.
Mentioning Donnie Yen reminds me of the times I've admired his martial art skills from the movies Ip Man and even Hero. He's a legend.
That last episode is a good improvement though.
