I kind of understand why. The problem is not the leads being less great, but rather people who typically read this drama's summary & then start watching tend to be not the types that enjoy peaceful romance or time travel.
I did not really like Na In Woo in anything before, but here everything is working out for him nicely, well based on the first episode. (acting, style etc)

I think she did not take this role very seriously, nor did the director take the drama very seriously, because there were some scenes that were quite immersion breaking & all it would have taken to fix this is to call out the ng.
If you think about it, this is quite normal. If in the work environment people are not very professional, it will be much harder to force yourself to care.

On MDL EVERY high profile kdrama or cdrama will get a very large number of fake reviews & fake ratings. It costs very little to do that & it will increase your show's international success, they would be stupid not to. (could apply to other Asian dramas as well, but I only watch k & cdramas)
This is why when I'm curious about a show I only tend to focus on well written negative, or mixed reviews. (or at least look at the reviewer's review history)

My opinion is that you shouldn't waste your time with this. (if you must, then there is no reason no to start with s1 for maximum entertainment, though I'm sure this could be watched without)
