That’s actually the furthest from the truth. In the last couple of years the most successful dramas in South Korea were mature ones from doctor prisoner, sky castle, the world of the married, hospital ship and others were very serious and adult dramas that got very hight rating. The world of the married almost broke 30% ratings and was on a paid channel too. The problem in the execution of the drama not the topics presented. For example the long and very uncomfortable eye contact between the 2 leads. It was meant to show great chemistry but I’m one of those who did not see it as natural chemistry but a forced one by the drama makers. It’s good some of u guys like it but that should not be universal. People r different.

The problem is not with her disorder. Personally, my favourite characters are the grey ones as they r more relatable to us human beings. But I like to see retribution for their actions too. The problem here is the drama is trying so hard to romanticise and normalise such disorder when in real life people battle hard with them. Like the extreme obsessive and stalking behaviour etc. So what next.. soon we will get dramas where sexual abuse is ok as long as it’s considered a disorder! I guess it all goes back to the ethical principles of us as humans.

Tell us that when ur significant other is taken by someone who has the right to fight for their love as u put it

Even thought that their may be an explanation to her character, a sociopath is a sociopath. It’s not something that can be changed. They only escalate. That my main issue with the show. The psychology issues is nothing related to the real issues. Just romanticised and fantasied for the sake of the show.

I liked the crown prince a lot too. When the drama aired he was discussed more along the brotherhood between him and the main lead. I actually thought he is more suitable to be the king and he got to be. The actor is so good too.

I just took a look at ur profile and judging from ur fav list, I think it’s a good idea to put this on hold. It’s a bit heavy of a drama compared to dramas u like :) if u like to check more lighthearted historical drama I would suggest checking rookie historian goo Hae ryung. It’a a romantic historical and not heavy on the politics part (still have some political struggle as expected with Korean historical but it’s not very heavy)

Because main actors fans will give 10s regardless if the drama good or not. They will even create multiple accounts just for that. I saw many dramas getting high rating rating because of that. Some dramas get bad rating just because actors are not well liked by International fans.

I watched long time ago but gonna try to answer ur questions to the best I remember. Q1 yes he marry someone else. But as a king he can have other women too. Q2. No she won’t marry that guy. Q.3 no he does no desire the throne although Some people wanted him to go against the king for the throne but he go against him for the girl. Q4. I don’t remember which episode but he finds out. Q6. No they will not marry. They don’t end up together. She ends up with the other guy.

But u know that what described is a character of a psychopath and a sociopath. In real life, these characters are never really able to love. Yet, we r to believe that magically she will really turn around and love and care for the main guy. Is this serious! This is a disgrace for people who really suffer from these mental disorders in real life and there is really no cure for them really.

I personally did not like this drama and his character here did not have depth or anything to make it interesting. But I thought he was awesome is hello monster. He quite fit the role and was my second favourite psychopath after Naam from the girl who see smell.

I agree with u. This is a huge let down when it comes to the real mental health issues. This is a dark fantasia rather than a real intake into mental health issues. The mental health topic seems to be used to serve the object of the drama only rather than being the heart of the drama.

That’s true, I’m still hanging on. I hope it will explore more about the real mental health issue. That would be new topic to explore in South Korea really and that was why I wanted to watch the drama. Rating itself remain subjective to people. Many dramas that did well in South Korea did not do well internationally such as black night the man who saved me. And many dramas that had very bad ratings in South Korea did well internationally such as weightlifting fairy Kim bok Joo which hardly got 2% in South Korea but was a hit internationally. And there are others that did well in South Korea as well as internationally such as goblin.

People give drama chance to see if it works for them or not. I had a feeling since the teasers were released that it’s not going to be really about real mental health stuff. But I decided to give it a chance. It’s heading to be like one of those glorified romance with perfect cinematologey. I personally don’t care much for that. Rating is not everything but it’s definitely important for drama makers when the main actor is paid a fortune for each episode. Also ratings is important in most places. Many American shows were cancelled due to ratings same go for Turkish ones etc.... To each their own. Maybe it will pick up later on. No one can tell. My issues is with them advertising it as something to end up totally something else.

I’m already considering dropping. The drama was suppose to be about real mental health issues, but ended up being another hotel de Luna. That’s disappointing honestly. Ya the rating dropped from 6% to 4% maybe what I said is a reason for that. Wrong advertisement is just not ok.

I like her very much too and I like her dramas actually. Also, most of her drama get very good ratings in South Korea. For example, black night got up to 15% rating for a week days drama that is actually is really good. Even some of the most expensive dramas made for weekends did not get that rating such as vagabond or the eternal monarch. She seems to get bashing from internationals unfortunately but I see many actress (females) getting bashing too. And she gets a lot of hate in this forum. But there r many people who like her too. I’m active on Insta and YouTube and she has support there unlike here. I also really love to watch her YouTube content. She is really a very sweet and good hearted person from what I could tell from YouTube stuff she posts. Haters and bullies be dammed! They r just toxic people who don't have better things to do.

I was rewatching this drama as I can’t find interesting dramas to watch this year. I was just reminded of how good it was and the good vibes I got watching it :)

I was left with mainly 2 things. First how refreshing to have a girl like Hae ryung as a lead in Kdrama land. She was consistent throughout the drama. While she was strong and smart, she learned from her mistakes. She was not reduced into the normal dismal in distress we normally get in Asian dramas. That was very refreshing and she was very relatable to me.
Second, I was left with that sometimes u only need this one person who will champion u and lift u up and the only person u need in this life is that person. Hae Ryung was that person for lee rim. He understood that she is his one and only. Not many people realize that u only need that one person only.
There were other things that I personally thought interesting such as religions in the region.

I personally love this drama and fashion king so much. They r on the top 5 of best dramas for me. I thought I’m one of very few until I got to YouTube and there r many there who like them too unlike in the forum. I also don’t understand why u only cast the blame for ur view about both dramas being a failure on the shoulders of SSK as if there were no one else involved but her in these dramas. Even the director of this dramas said that he was the one who directed the character of SSK in this drama and that what he looked for. But following ur logic, we should blame LMH for the failure of the king drama or JCW for the failure of melting me softly etc.... granted that actually both this drama and fashion king actually got good rating in South Korea for weekdays drama compared to the 2 I gave as an example. If such melodramas are not to ur liking, then watch stuff u like and don’t spoil it for us people who like such dramas. These days South Korean drama industry tries so hard to cater for internationals that it’s lost its vibe and relevance.
