Because you r asking, actually this drama was quite popular in SK and got to 15% ratings for a weekdays drama- thats quite impressive. It was also nominated for several awards and was enjoyed mostly by adults. I personally liked the acting a lot and the chemistry between both leads. That’s how late 20 leading lady and late 30 leading men should act in a more natural and subtle way. It’s actually quit annoying seeing all this girls in these dreams who r in late 20s or even worse late 30 acting like 10 years old. Also, most of interaction between the leads happened in the work environment or home. It was quite good and natural to me. I enjoyed the first part of the drama a lot. The part were we see the leads in their previous life and then their meeting in the present. It was quit interesting to see what the witches did to get punished. I was anticipating every episode. The problem to me started when the production company got greedy and decided to add more episodes as the drams got quite popular. You know, these dramas are being made while being aired. I think that was the major issue that let the drama down to me. They did not have enough materials to extend the drama but they did. Also, I had a problem with why the writer decided to make the main lead immortal. I started the drama because both of them were human (I like dramas when both leads on the same level. I mean I don’t like one bing a robot and one human or one bing supernatural and the other human. Not a fan of these) so, it was quite disappointing to see the writer heading that way. Acting wise, I thought the whole team did amazing. both leads and witches were on par with their characters and did not disappoint especially tacking into consideration the added episodes.
Ya Chinese dramas are notorious for dragging. I fast forward a lot with them lol. If u like lighthearted romance with happy ending but still enough stuff to fill the plot, you may like to check rookie historian Goo Hae Ryung. It a Korean drama of 20 episodes- a lot shorter than these Chinese ones. The vibes is a bit different but i enjoyed watching it and it had a happy ending which is quite rare for a historical Korean drama and the set was quit beautiful too.
Did u watch eternal love - ten miles of Peach Blossoms? That one is mesmerizing. I liked this one. But not as much as eternal love. It’s also a happy ending drama with similar vibes. It was one of the most popular Chinese dramas couple of years ago.
I have been meaning to come and write something about the character of GHR but I was thinking to myself that I may not be able to give it justice. Here is my attempt to do so. I know many people came for the drama for the romance, comedy etc... for me, I came for the promise of finally finding a female lead in kdrama or cdrama that is really worth it. Ya I know there were some female characters that were depicted as strong in some drama. Most of them r those supernatural creatures that do not exist in the real world (I can still argue that many of them were reduced to the normal silly girl we see in such drama). The other type of strong women those who r more mature that life broke and they had to be strong and ruthless. But, though out my several years journey watching dramas, I was carving this girl that is intelligent, pragmatic, realistic, strong (yet not in ur face too strong). Someone who knows when she is at right and when she is at wrong and does not argue like crazy girl when she is at the wrong. Throughout this drama, GHR was very constant and true to her values. She was never reduced to this silly, stupid, and low IQ girl that we see as a pattern in such dramas. She never needed the man to save the day, But relied on her own intelligence and strength to go though her challenges. I feel that the character did not get truly the value she needed. That way, I wanted to come and express that and to thank the writer for bringing such character to life. I can’t believe that a rookie writes was able to do that (yes she is a new writer, I already checked) and also I wanted to applaud shin se kyung for portraying the character perfectly. She truly shined as GHR. GHR is extremely relatable to many of use women in the reals world in an unimaginable way (i have met many such examples in real life) That why, I had to come and express it. Finally, I just wanted to say that I hope many of the young crowd who watch this drama learn something from GHR. In real life, we women are all heroes in our own way and there r many who r GHR of their life. Women who found a good balance between valuing their ambition and love life. In real life, intelligent men look for GHR example of a female partner and not those many silly examples shown in other dramas.
Why r u disappointed with it? I personally thought it tied up really nice with the overall atmosphere of the drama. No conflicts, no bloodshed. It showed that historians were able to use their voice to correct the corruption of the administration and punish people need to be punished without the need to drag their families. And what was most important we got an amazing closure for both our leads. The drama was about them and to see that GHR was able to achieve her dream of being a historian and the prince getting out of the place that brought him so much misery was so fulfilling to me. But also to see both leads together and talking about their stuff like a normal couple being happy together was so satisfying :)
@ sandhyamohonraj, I personally liked this drama. It is a lot better than many other dramas I watched. It’s…
U can give it a try and see how u like it. I’m more involved in youtube than here and people in youtube liked the drama a lot. Some of crazy fans (because the actors had another actress as girl friend) tried to trash it over there but the youtube community is less tolerant for haters thank goddess unlike this forum. I’m quite sure more of the hate here is because of that issue not the drama itself or the acting. And if you like romcom, I would suggest u check rookie historian goo Hae Ryung. One of the best romcom of the year.
The brotherly relationship in this drama was awesome unlike other historical. It something that I really appreciated.…
And just to clarify something, the relationship between the leads has nothing to do with the conflict between the brothers and the king. The CP actually liked another historian and goo Hae Ryung never looked at anyone else besides prince rim. I also thought it was really great that this drama did not have the normal cliche of love triangle. It was kinda of implied that the other historian liked her. But, there was nothing more. She always treated him and respected him as her senior.
One thing that's fuzzy for me and makes me want a family chart.... The King isn't related to the Dowager Queen…
It was pretty common for men in that time to have more than one woman. The most important one (coming from the most powerful and richest clan ) is the main wife and queen. She will also become the dowager queen when her son or even other sons of the king or emperor inherit the throne. In this case, the dowager mother had a son, so it is expected that he will be the next king. That’s why, she wanted prince rim to inherit the throne. The current king is the son of the dowager queen husband but he is not her son. I’m quite sure he is the son of a less ranking woman and he wouldn’t be inline for the throne. However, as the legitimate CP (her son) was killed and dethroned, she agreed to instate this king as long as he keeps prince rim safe and doesn’t reveal his identity. But he is not her son. He is her stepson. The queen usually mother plays a big role in the institution of ruling. I read some history about some of the dowager empresses of China. Very interesting to see how crucial they r considered. Even the emperor have to show her respect even if he is not her own son.
Ok, so I have been super patient and have held off watching because of being scared of a bad end, but now that…
The brotherly relationship in this drama was awesome unlike other historical. It something that I really appreciated. When the conflict reached it climax, the CP got a bit confused. In yesterday episode, he was so overwhelmed with a lot of the stuff that was being revealed to him by the king. He thought he has to chose between his dad or his brother (or cousin). But when he got the time to think it thought and asked for the truth. He stood for what is right and support prince rim in front of the king asking for investigation committee to look the truth up. He was also ready to give the throne up to prince rim who actually refused to become the new king as he wanted to live for himself for the first time ever. I think it was wrapped really nice with the CP becoming the king and prince rim traveling around d to his heart content.
I find you comments interesting in a good way especially that part of how u think about the end. Personally, I…
@amanu35 I was really happy with the ending. It is the ending that I wanted but was to worried to imagine in case it did not come true. The logical in me was trying to convince me it ok if it’s not a happy ending:) but oh boy I’m so happy with how the drama was wrapped up. Everyone did an amazing job in this drama. I also should say I was worried that there was only one hour for everything to be wrapped up. But it was done really beautifully and in a short time without much drama. It also allowed us to really enjoy the time of seeing the leads happy. That was really awesome:) so satisfying too.
One episode left! I feel certain this will end up as one of my favorite dramas of the year, but I'm also scared…
I read ur full review and I wish I can like it more than once :) I was also worried how they will wrap everything in 1 hour but to my surprise it worked really will and was lined up nicely with the drama e.g no bloodshed etc...it was done beautifully in very short time and allowed enough time for us to see good happy ending for both leads. I think in action to the actors and crew, the writer need special recognition. She did an amazing job.
Same here, I liked her acting and I think she is much better than many Korean actress. I feel sorry for her for…
No she did not. She is well liked and respected in her country. She even has the title of the queen of historicals because she worked in many historical dramas.
IKR. It’s not that she is bad in acting, she just cannot form proper chemistry with any of her leading man.…
I personally don’t know what u r talking about. Thier chemistry was amazing. I can see from ur profile picture why u would say that though. U know both of them are actors and even if he had a gf he still need to work. Maybe if u fans of both of them acted respectfully and supported his work instead of trying to drag it down, he and his gf would have been together. Yes, to many of u filling this forum trying to spread hate instead of understanding that an actor need to work are a principle reason for their separation.
@apchala, I hope u don’t listen to many of these haters. Shin she Kyong is awesome in historical. Both deep rooted tree and six flying dragons were highly rated and loved in South Korea. Shin was also in other historical before. She has the title of the queen of historicals in South Korea. This did not come out of no were. She is well liked and respected in her country. This drama in particular was not written really well. So, what people do, they blame the girl as they usually do. But it still not as bad as they try to make it. There r many worse drama with a lot higher ratings.
