Her mum words are punching my heart.. After all the good she has done, she still think her daughter is mud n dirt. Poor gal. Love it she make that decision on her own. Partly due to her mum insult n partly due to lby loud proclamation.

When I watch ep 24, whether it was impromptu triggered by 5th Prince interest in css or lby has planned to do this proposal at the Royal family dinner, I think he did the best thing asking emperor to do the proposal. It is a good calculated move.

Sitting among the Princes, lby is a part of the royal family. He was raised like a Prince, given the same privileges n he mix w them w ease. Asking emperor to fatherly duty to propose is giving the cheng the highest accord n respect n telling css he is serious. Also from all the Princes n emperor reactions to their rejection esp crown primce word was... general cheng this is concerning the royal family pride n face, u better think carefully thrice again. So besides respect, lby also want to make sure there is no way out. The way he tells her mum to shut up really makes my day. It is both his steely character n his royal upbringing in knowing how the emperor is always on his side.

But to me I love it, she make the decision herself meaning she will stick to it. Her yes is partly due to her mum harsh word n she need to at least hv that tiny bit of self esteem restore. But I believe big part is due to lby loud proclamation that even echos n boom into her mum. 2 things lby says I think resonate w niao2. No 1. No need to be in the norm to be happy couple (exactly what css says to ly) no. 2 to shoulder on in life journey together (exactly what css wants in relationship... Doing it together) . N of course his total appreciation of her as she is. I think she felt something when he says it. Love he says I will not marry anyone (he booms in out n I believe his eyes were on her mum). Mum did a double take.!!!

U r so right. N css is so right. The core prob is The mom doesn't seem to think css is good for anyone.. That is terrible. Because after she handle the rebel, rebuild hua County, manage her broken engagement w ly n how she handle ly n his family, the gal did it with intelligence, kindness n elegance. I think her intention is good but those words are too harsh, she does not need to tear down her daughter pride n integrity. It will scar anyone for life. Those words in Chinese r really hurtful.. Literally saying my daughter is mud n good for nothing. Too hurtful even damaging..

She also underestimate lby and his knowledge of css. The guy practically help her tear down the bridge to bring those girls into water. He knows how nsughtty, stubborn n sneaky she can be. N I believe that is what he loves about her. She nvr pretends to classy n shy. She is wat she is. Like he says. Both css n him are the type an eye for an eye style.

Wow we all guess wrong, she agreed on her own accord. These drama is so beautifully done logic wise. We thought it would be emperor who force them but in the end it was mum who pushes her over the edge..

Exactly. Every out of her mouth is like a slice from a knife. I know her reaction was overboard because lby suddenly asked for css hand but those words... . I can even feel my heart get punch w every word. But from the look of lby, the king n queen, I think they really felt for her as well. She totally tear down any pride n integrity in any human w marginal intelligence. That's unforgiveable. Sorry Yuan yi character has totally goes beyond salvage in me as an audience.

I read a little online.. The engagement n marriage are generally 6 courtesies steps.
1. Proposal. (ti qin) Boy or boy family like girl. Send someone to propose usualy professional matchmaker. In ly case, his lou uncle go to css father to propose. In lby case he asked emperor to help him to propose.
2. Exchange birthdates. If girl family OK, give her birthdate to matchmaker n they go temple to check compatibility astrologically. All OK. Compatibility confirmed is call. NA JI. Remember css mum during ly case, asked her father, u
guys got na ji? He shacked his head.
3. Then boy family send betrothal gifts with money, jewellery, poultry, cakes etc. Gou da li. The betrothal gift is called PIN LI. Guess we can see as a booking money for the girl. I book u. Hahaha.....engagement is set n announcement is made. This bit is a very big thing, shows bboy respect for girl.
4. Girl send her dowry usually returning half of the betrothal gift to boy w additional stuffs parents prepared for her. Can be few days b4 wedding. Part 3 n 4 r call na zheng. Exchange of gifts.
5. Wedding discussion on dates etc.
6. Wedding day.

I think similar as lady in waiting for queens n em presses. There is a tradition of picking high ranking officials wives or wives of other royals as lady in waiting, not really to serve but to keep the empress company.

So when does engagement starts. (ding qing). The moment u ask for her hand n the gal side agree or it only counts after betrothal gifts are accepted? How does this work? Because w ly remember css mum lock up the betrothal gift saying she hasn't agree.

I know after ding qing they r suppose to be a Luncheon to announce to all guests about the engagement (like what happen w ly home when lby send an edict).

But honestly if she was semi forced into it n yet in the end he chooses revenge n leave her, it is very very sad for her. It is like it was never her choice.

I think that most likely the case. Apparently in the novel he work really fast almost immediately after her engagement is broken, here they did slow it down a fair bit. In the drama they make him always keeping her best interest at heart. Even it means she maybe snatched up by someone else.

Also I m glad the drama doesn't make her super super tough by keeping in mind she is still young. Eg. She freezes when she knows the questions of his injury maybe from the emperor himself, she is terrified n broke into cold sweat at xiao execution. The drama mske an effort showed even though she is sassy n tough n smart, she is still young, will feel lost, scare n need to be loved n protected.

I m super curious. Tonight he will ask for engagement but what make css agree to it. I m wondering how lby work around that. Our gal definitely not a docile misssy n she has not yet developed that sort feelings w lby at least not to a level she would want to marry him, I m wondering how lby convince her to say yes. So with his wound reopen, lby thought of an excuse that this wound reopen is caused by him saving css from falling off a cliff n thus putting both of them as alibi for not being around at that time n in that location.

He was even training her to lie with tears - he hasn't realise our niao niao is a dra queen) so that she knows her lines in front of emperor. N she freeze upon knowing she will be questioned by emperor n freeze she did.

Almost everyone with eyes can see lby is interested in css. Even ly brother. N I think only css is oblivion to it.

The annoying ysj is really getting on my nerve. He is so twisted. Because his parents have a nonchalant marriage, he expect all marriages are like that. Honestly he nvr truly appreciate css as she is like ly n lby. He want to mould her to his liking so that she is fit to marry him. Hate the way he belittle her n bad mouthing her.
