It's interesting that you mentioned this, because just as JH died there was a scene where she speaks to CY overlooking the ocean (well not directly him, it's like a scene in her imagination I think). In that scene she said she's been lying to everyone including herself. She said the real reason she hasn't told CY the truth is that she is afraid that he will not forgive her. She said it was her fault that she turned such a sweet innocent merman into a vengeful man. She said that she was afraid to admit that she might have made the wrong decision.
