The pearl that CY gave her changed her energy completely which helped her grow a very powerful tail. I do love the novel a lot too - my understanding is that they had to tone it down to pass censorship. They added more charactors to the drama which is not surprising as it can also seen to help promote other actors. I know that the fox lady is also in the same management company as Reba.

So they've changed the ending of the story and the fate of the major characters quite a bit in the drama. But the director deliberately left out how JH got out of the lava lake after the evil dissipated. There's a something going around staying that the pearl given by CY at the last minute was what changed her energy and form to give her a powerful tail that was able to break out of the formation.

He did the same with The Long Ballad too, made the ending a bit open ended imo.

CY is the king of romance, the loving things he says to JH just melts my heart.

Can someone translate to me what JH and CY were talking about while they were sitting on the cliff before they dove into the sea? I just understand the part about seeing who can swim faster?
