So actually it's not a day dream but real. The director cut out the "explanation" on how JH broke out of the formation after the evil spirit dissipated . The pearl that CY gave her changed her energy completely which helped her grow a very powerful tail. I do love the novel a lot too - my understanding is that they had to tone it down to pass censorship. They added more charactors to the drama which is not surprising as it can also seen to help promote other actors. I know that the fox lady is also in the same management company as Reba.
