Generally, I find rom coms have a hard time with conveying realistic action, emergency scenes.
I understand why the secondary characters felt short, her workplace co workers weren't likeable and didn't deserve a redemption arc.
Manager and team leader romance added humour, that Cat fight 🤣.
The little boy, FL exchanges were used to advance her emotional state that she was in denial.
I felt many negative comments reflect a lack of understanding of the writing, dynamics of her bullying, workplace politics.
She wasn't weak or stupid and repeatedly stepped up to address problems in her work/personal life.
ML mom was still deeply in love with her oblivious, cruel husband. He fell apart and realized everything wouldn't matter if she wasn't there. Her becoming intimate, pregnant is their redemption arc. They spent very little time on his apologizing so not being supportive makes sense.
This drama reminded me of Secret Garden, so I knew immediately the chaos of the ML pursuit of the FL.
The casting did a great job with the selection of the cast. 2FL delivered a narcissist we disliked. 2ML being quickly becoming the third wheel, realizing too late his feelings was fitting.
This three hundred year old love affair is one of the best in 2023. I can see why others couldn't keep up, appreciate the non linear story telling. I have the OST on repeat.
I liked the boss lady/supervisor story as well. And really liked the twist in the end with Papa Jang and his wife…
I'll gladly concede that interpretation seems more likely when you include the meal at the 58 min mark EP16
The dish wasn't good, the facial expressions belied their statements. Eun Wol is a bit of a joker and teases them. Played senile and called him "Honey" EP1
📞 call took place 58 min mark EP15
She didn't explicitly state during her call it was theirs. It's possible she called SY because the land, Shrine (Haunted House) was his responsibility and HJ is notorious for not having her phone on.
This isn't a plot hole, or messy writing but allows viewers to develop different scenarios for the telephone call.
Engagement is profitable.
MDL'ers were engaged in DWY with over +9,200 comments on their page.
Do you remember cliffhanger 1980's Dallas television show? "Who Shot JR?"
This is my safe place to give my opinion, read opinions etc etc since I don't have anyone to share my kdrama tastes…
I just rewatched the telephone call and Eun Wol didn't say SY impregnated HJ. We fell pray to our heuristics and made that conclusion. She called, sharing she had a dream, had a peach, SY to not over exert himself and ask to speak with HJ.
99% of us misunderstood her comments, attributed to the leads because they had sex and she called him.
I liked the boss lady/supervisor story as well. And really liked the twist in the end with Papa Jang and his wife…
I need to rewatch that telephone call again. I don't believe she unequivocal stated her dream was about the two leads. She had a dream, mentions a peach and asked to speak to Hong Jo. (that's it)
It's possible we, SY misunderstood and thought Eun Wol was talking about them because they slept together.
(That's my bet, Eun Wol didn't correct them at the breakfast.)
Eun Wol 54 min mark It's a daughter I had a conception dream I picked a peach Put Hong-jo on the line Goodness, enjoy your morning. Don't push yourself too much.
It's not explicit that she was referring to the leads!
At this point, negative reviews make me laugh because whatever they're saying doesn't make sense to me lol. Also,…
Remember how the negative rumours spread quickly about the FL being promiscuous, hitting on the male leads?
"Heuristics are mental shortcuts that allow people to solve problems and make judgments quickly and efficiently." They can be wrong!
If you see a pattern that your mental short cuts are wrong, you shouldn't rush to judgement and examine the subject matter to arrive with a cogent answer.
"Meatheads" or Short bus passengers interchangeable
They are not using facts., simply repeating the abhorrent behaviour of her co workers.
If you point out there errors, they don't apologize and admit they got it wrong.
At this point, negative reviews make me laugh because whatever they're saying doesn't make sense to me lol. Also,…
I read them to see if the negative comments are valid because they laid out a coherent argument. Throwing out nonsensical comments no plot, messy, lacking common sense in this instance qualifies them on the short bus.
Great analysis, it's hilarious reading the negative reviews because you can see they couldn't follow along.
I'm debating writing a review, haven't done one since High School.
As a fan of Secret Garden: this fantasy, rom com hit all the right notes and I was reminiscing.
Cinderella trope of wealthy powerful males becoming a hot mess for a poor female never gets tired.
Bo Ah's portrayal in The Innocent Thing drew me in and I have watched two more of her dramas.
Rowan was so good, my first time seeing him. Who had PP dance on their Bingo Card (2023)
In most cases I dislike the secondary characters but Ms. Ma/Mr. Gong sub plot was enjoyable. That manager (blind date) meeting on the roof, her cat fight. 😂
They loaded this drama with dozens of funny moments, that you could miss if you weren't paying attention.
I laugh at the product placement in KdramasTiffany's, Subways 🤣What better rom coms did you watch in 2023?KTLHeartbeatLovely…
Red Notice (2021) Ryan Reynolds pumped his own alcohol in a recent movie he did with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. If you didn't know you might miss it but I was having a full belly laugh.
I don't think it's the concept. It's the writing. Everyone loved the actors and usually, plots like this get high…
I'll disagree with the characterization of Hong Jo as an imbecile.
" In her personal life, she is used to being alone. One day, she happens to become the owner of an old wooden chest and the key to lift a curse from Jang Shin Yu."
Backstory Present life she's bullied multiple times, ultimately dropping out of Highschool and losing her father (blaming herself) on their first trip.
We see her stand out from her co workers as a Civil Servant. She steps in when 2ML is attacked with a liquid substance, does the work when others want to be lazy.
You see her volunteer to resolve a dilapidated Shrine to gain acceptance from Team Leader at Onju City Hall.
We see her not complain, accustomed to doing everything without help from her co workers.
She stepped in when her Manager was being attacked and was knocked down to the ground. Team Leader arrives subduing the complainant. Others stood by.
FL needed her to be put into dangerous situation for angst.
This fantasy, rom com drama isn't realistic and applying labels of common sense, situational awareness are red herrings. Leads doing stupid things is common. We have coincidences that give us hints or misdirect us.
There's a reason why some viewers were at screaming the leads, villains for doing stupid, evil things.
Your reaction to the storyline is built-in. I get why you think it felt like two different writers. Heartbeat, Lovely Liar comes to mind of the disjointed storytelling.
DWY didn't feel that way to me.
"A lawyer bound by a centuries-old curse becomes entangled with a civil servant who holds the key to his freedom — igniting an unexpected romance."
I took this to heart and expected chaos, misdirection and hair pulling watching their love story unfold.
Rich male chasing a poor female makes for hilarious scenes.
KTL was a super fluffy rom com with almost no suspense, thriller component and critics complained it was boring.
Secret Garden is a closer drama to DWY with magic, destiny for the pairing of the two leads. Strong Woman Do Bong Son too.
I was rooting for a body switching episode and triplets in a time skip finale for DWY.

Thanks again for your review, it was a good read.
As long as you're not asking questions it's all good.

Would you consider the killing John's Wick dog an important detail in his storyline?
Most armchair critics couldn't follow along this non-linear drama. Flashbacks*
You will miss key components by skipping, playing it at 2x speed.
See You in My 19th Life, Secret Garden, My Love From Another Star have similarities.

E.W. didn't explicitly state it was HJ.
She wanted to speak with HJ and told SY to not over exert himself (recently stabbed).
Her portents remain 100% valid imo.
It's only fair we laugh at your question.
Thank you for giving us a chuckle.
I recommend rewatching this drama because its easy to make a mistake.

Netflix's ratings indicate those who ride the shot bus couldn't keep up.
I wouldn't brag this was too complicated on a personal level.
Facts are generally irrelevant to the negative posters.

A favourite for 2023, beautiful OST.
"No plot, too many plot holes, messy plot, stupid FL"
The non linear storytelling literally broke them.
We're witnessing the equivalent of two year old's throwing a tantrum for not being spoon-fed, being distracted, being unable to follow along.
I prefer to use the term short bus passengers.
Ryan Reynolds pumped his own alcohol in a recent movie he did with Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.
